The first item I uncovered was the Hello Kitty Sling Bookcase that was £30 but is now £27. It has an MDF frame and four fabric slings that can store books of different shapes and sizes. I rather like that feature because, honestly, do no children’s furniture makers realise that their books are huge?

Next up is the substantially more expensive Hello Kitty Light Up Headboard which, er, lights up. It has an integral night light that automatically turns off after 15 minutes and the MDF board fits all standard single beds. It is down to £53.10.

Another item I like but think is grossly overpriced for MDF is the Hello Kitty toy box that costs £40.50 in the sale.

I know it is the end of summer and there's snow forecast for this winter. But now is really the best time to be thinking about grabbing some bargains for next year. Tesco has this the Children's Garden Bench FSC for sale, marked down from £52.50 to £17.50. Don't ask me why it is called a Garden Bench when clearly it is a picnic table. That's a question only Tesco can answer!

My best mate got a children's picnic bench this year and the kids ate nearly all their meals at it, not to mention using it for play. OK so they do live in France but still, it seemed like a really attractive bit of garden furniture to me.

Particularly if you've got, for example, a covered patio. Because it's weatherproof, you can keep the table out there all the time. And then when the weather's warm enough, the kids can simply pop outside to eat or do drawing. But there's advantages to outdoor furniture when the weather gets colder too. As long as they're wrapped up warm enough, kids don't really care how cold it is outside.

As I write this I'm sitting in my lounge, surrounded by toys. I don't mind really, it is only a few short years really that they're children and I'm happy to give up my adult space for that time. It can get to the stage where the kitchen table just doesn't cut it as a suitable office desk anymore and you need something 'proper' - like the Alve wooden office desks that Ikea are selling in antique pine.

I was going to say it would be great for teenagers, in their rooms, so they could study and do their homework at it but then I remembered!  Teenagers don't DO homework or study...or at least mine don't appear to and they both have wooden office desks, those desks are more of a token nod to the idea of learning.

I've always had a love/hate relationship with Laura Ashley. I find I hate myself for loving so much the Laura Ashley style. I mean, I just isn't me. I'm not a soft colourings and pretty flowers kind of person. Except that as it turns out, I walk into the store, start looking at everything, and find that really actually I am.

I used to love picking up clothes in there for my niece. It isn't the cheapest store, so I used to wait each year for their big sale. This puts clothes and other items sold there into the just about affordable range! Sadly now I don't have a little girl to buy cute wee frocks for.

The sale event started on Thursday and finishes TOMORROW, so don't delay if you do want to look for a few bargains.

Although I guess bargains is a relative word! But still, if there's something you really want and can only get it from the store then you can get it that little bit cheaper. Like this fabulous car wallpaper! It was £24 a roll and is now £18. A saving of six quid off a roll works out quite well if you're doing, for example, an accent wall.

The Argos eBay outlet is selling a children’s folding chair with parasol for only £4.49 with a 99p delivery charge. I am amazed at how cheaply the Argos Outlet delivers for really, especially when you consider how much they charge from their main store.

The Children’s Chair and Parasol set comes with a 12 month Argos warranty and has armrests and the parasol is detachable. It is made from tubular steel and the covers are made from polyester, making them easy to wipe down and keep clean as well as pretty robust.

The item shouldn’t be left outdoors to endure horrible weather (like the weather we are enduring at the moment) so you will need to store it somewhere safe and dry when it is not in use. The chair also comes with a safety locking mechanism to keep little fingers safe.
