Two Famous Five Books 70th Anniversary Editions £5.99 @ Red House BooksRed House Books are selling two Famous Five books - Five on a Treasure Island and Five go to Smugglers Top - that have been illustrated by Quentin Blake to celebrate their 70th Anniversary for £5.99 instead of £11.98.

Of all the Enid Blyton books I read as a child, the Famous Five stories weren't among them!

I don't know why, but they just never appealed to me - I read the Adventure series, which were very similar kids-turn-detective-and-get-themselves-into-all-sorts-of-trouble stories, and the Malory Towers series, along with Enid Blyton's Book of Fairies, but NOT the Famous Five.

I don't know what it was about them that put me off, you know - maybe it was the boring looking covers they had!  If they'd been illustrated by Quentin Blake back in the day then maybe I'd have been more interested - look at them, don't they look fun!

So, if you want to introduce your children to a time when lashings of ginger beer was a good thing, and kids went out for the entire day, didn't have mobile phones and got up to all sorts of mischief then these two Famous Five books are the way to go.

Single item delivery will cost you an additional £1.95 unless your order total is over £15, in which case delivery then becomes FREEEE!

I can't really tell you much about a collection of such well-known books, so here's a bit of Famous Five trivia for you...

Enid Blyton penned the first Famous Five book - Five on a Treasure Island - in 1942.  She only ever intended to write between six and eight stories featuring Julian, Dick, Anne, George (who was actually Georgina) and Timmy the dog, but due to popular demand went on to produce 21 Famous Five adventures.

There was a Famous Five TV series produced and aired between 1978 and 1979 - I vaugly remember watching some of the 26 episodes that were made.
