Kinect Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 £17.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 1 January, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Kinect Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 £17.99 @ Play.com

This is another excellent deal for those of you looking for a way to shed some Christmas pounds and get those svelte pre-Christmas pud bodies back. This particular series of fitness titles for the Xbox Kinect has had excellent reviews and delivers some fab workouts.

Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 includes new content and has also been modified to suit the feedback given by users to make it more intuitive and user friendly. I am using the first version and must admit that it can be a little convoluted to use and understand at first.

This game has over 90 hours of content with both improved content from the original and completely new exercises as well. Your instructor will now tell you what you are doing wrong and teach you how to improve your moves as well. This is a vast improvement on the original as you can genuinely work on getting your body into shape the right way.

Kinect Just Dance 3 Special Edition £15.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 1 January, 2012 at 3:00 pm

Kinect Just Dance 3 Special Edition £15.99 @ Play.com

Just Dance 3 is one of the world’s leading dance games and works really well with the Kinect. It has had rave reviews by critics and users and is a fab way to lose weight after all the Christmas indulgences. Down to only £15.99 at Play, this is a great time to nab a great deal.

The Just Dance game will kickstart your inner party, no matter what time of the day! There are 49 tracks from a huge range of different genres and artists so you are bound to hit a tune that you like as you boogie the wibbly bits away.

You can play with up to four players at a time (make sure your lounge is big enough!) and there are some hot songs like Katie Perry’s California Gurls and Forget You by Cee Lo Green, to name a few. Usually this costs about £39.99 so you are saving £24 off the usual price.

Doctor Who 6V Ride On Dalek £44.75 @ John Lewis

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 30 December, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Doctor Who 6V Ride On Dalek £44.75 @ John Lewis

I found this exact toy on sale on Amazon just before Christmas and it had been reduced to £79 (or thereabouts) which was still very expensive in my books. Although, according to Amazon, it originally cost in the region of £179.99. This is far more reasonably priced at £44.75 for those of you still looking for a ride-on Doctor Who Dalek.

The Doctor Who ride-on Dalek is 6V and will need to charge for hours and hours before kids can get about one hour of fun out of it each time. I think this is a massive downer, especially for kids, but perhaps for some is worth it?

The inflatable Dalek is powered by a 6V motor that lets kids take control and turn themselves into the Doctor’s nemesis. There are 10 sound effects and Dalek phrases and kids can steer it up to 3km per hour.

Nintendo Wii Console + MotionPlus + Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Games £89.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 20 December, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Nintendo Wii Console + MotionPlus + Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Games £89.99 @ Play.com

This is a pretty toasty deal from Play.com but unlikely to arrive in time for Christmas. You get the Nintendo Wii console in blue along with the Wii MotionPlus and the game Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic games and all for £89.99 including free delivery.

The entire bundle here is superb value for money, especially when you consider how the Wii alone cost over £200 not that many years ago. This entire kit is also done up entirely in blue, which is pretty cool in my view.

The game, Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympics seems ok. I haven’t played it but the ads look like much of the same to me – the same as Wii Sports etc, that is – however, I could be wrong and for this price you can’t go far wrong either. Even if the game is a bit rubbish, you get the entire Wii set up for a fraction of the old price.

Moshi Monsters Mosh N Chat Katsuma £14.63 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 19 December, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Moshi Monsters Mosh N Chat Katsuma £14.63 @ Amazon

If you happen to be in possession of a Moshi Monsters fan and are still looking for a good deal on Moshi Monster toys, then here you go, this is it. The Mosh ‘n Chat Katsuma doll is down from £22.50 to only £14.63 on Amazon and it comes with free Super Saver delivery.

The Mosh ‘n Chat Katsuma doll comes with a neat saving of nearly £8 off the usual retail price which is, I think, pretty good as the latter is very high indeed. The Moshi Monsters Katsuma doll is a nonstop chatterbox. You can squeeze her tummy to hear her (or him) start a conversation and the more you say to her, the more she says back in her cute Moshi Monsters voice.

The 31cm high soft toy is also a guard for the bedroom! Thanks to her magical sensor mode, Katsuma can detect when people pass by and will start making an almighty racket when anyone does. She needs three AAA batteries to keep her going and the included ones are demo only so it is probably a good idea to get more in case these run out.

Innotab In Stock £79.99 @ Boots

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 18 December, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Innotab In Stock £79.99 @ Boots

The Innotab has become one of the Must Have gifts for 2012 and are selling out everywhere. As of today Boots has these in stock and you can get them for the stock standard price of £79.99. At least you won’t be spending over the odds as you would on Amazon or eBay!

I am completely against the Innotab if I am honest. The device isn’t that good, doesn’t work very well and is extremely expensive. After you’ve bought several games to go with it, you may as well have bought an iPad or a Transformer and loaded it with better games that cost under £1 or are completely free.

However, if you still want an Innotab in spite of my warnings, you can get one per customer at Boots. And, if you add something else to your pile and make the purchase over £80, you can get £10 off using the code EMAIL80.

Hornby R1153 London 2012 Train Set £59.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 18 December, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Hornby R1153 London 2012 Train Set £59.99 @ Play.com

This Hornby train set has been marked down from £99.99 to only £59.99 at Play.com and it comes with free delivery. The train is set to look like it is part of the 2012 Olympics and so is smothered in branding and Olympic style.

The Olympic and Paralympic icons are used to great effect on the Class 395 model train. It comes with a specially prepared TrakMat featuring some venues from the London 2012 Games. The train is designed with the modern snub nose and sleek front and looks lovely.

Both the power cards have lights which operate in the direction of travel and all together they create a spectacle as they traverse the track that’s included in the set. You get two cars, one train front, a remote control unit, plenty of track and the TrakMat mentioned earlier.

I love model trains so this would make an ace Christmas gift for my daughter – something we can play together.

Doctor Who Ride In Dalek £79.99 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 16 December, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Doctor Who Ride In Dalek £79.99 @ Amazon

Wow. This is COOL. Check out this ace ride-in Dalek from Doctor Who and imagine this being in your house. Yeah? Well, Amazon has marked this Doctor Who toy down from the astonishing £199.99 to only £79.99 which is a great discount with free delivery.

This is such a cool toy! I am not sure it is worth nearly £200 though so let’s see what it can do.

The Doctor Who ride-in Dalek ios for kids aged three to six years old and is 128cm tall. It is an inflatable toy with 360 degrees of movement and a 3km p/h speed. There are also some ace special effects such as the ten different Dalek phrases and light effects.

The Doctor Who dalek also comes with a sofr bumper to protect the furniture and delivers about 70 minutes of play per charge. Charge you say? Yes. You have to plug this baby in and get it fully charged to have some fun. It needs eight hours to charge to run for 70 minutes. That’s insane! Worth £200? NO. Worth £79.99? Maybe…

Moshi Monsters Mosh N Chat Poppet £13.50 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 11 December, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Moshi Monsters Mosh N Chat Poppet £13.50 @ Amazon

The Moshi Monsters are definitely among the Must Have Christmas gifts for 2011. My daughter is crazy about them and I’ve had to throw one of these under our Christmas tree this year. This particular price for a Moshi Monster, especially Poppet, is very good indeed, only £13.50 including free delivery.

Moshi Monsters Mosh n Chat Poppet makes a variety of Moshi Monster style noises whenever you push her tummy. My favourite has to be when she says, “Poppet” in this really cute voice. I can’t wait to see my daughter’s face when she opens this Christmas gift on the big day.

Moshi Monster Poppet is also one of the most expensive. Katsumi is constantly marked down, but Poppet and Furi are always expensive. This price, down from £22.50 to £13.50, is excellent and I am honestly surprised that there are any still around so close to Christmas.

Bobble Meerkat Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 8 December, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Bobble Meerkat Review

So, what DO you buy for people who have everything? Lately I find that the people I buy Christmas gifts for are the ones who either want extremely expensive gadgets or have everything remotely useful already. This is when I tend to go for odd and strange and mad gifts instead.

Like this hilarious Bobble Meerkat. What you see in the picture above is a meerkat that is modelled on the whole Compare the Market meerkats and looks adorable. I think my taste in stupid gifts is a bit crazy if I am honest so if you share my madness, then this will really appeal to you.

The Bobble Meerkat has a soft fuzz head, big eyes and a sturdy, little, fuzzy body. His head is supported by the usual coil and spring device seen on most bobbleheads and he is rather robust. How do I know this? My five year old grabbed him out of the box while I was distracted and proceeded to get the coil tangled in her sleeve, hair and edge of the meerkat body. How she managed this in under five seconds I will never know…

Anyway, I was positive that the Bobble Meerkat was broken and ruined but after untangling him and popping the neck back into position, he was completely unaffected. Unless you count his somewhat startled expression?

He sits on the dashboard of the car (much to my husband’s dismay) and I have ordered one for a mad uncle as I know he will love it. My Bobble Meerkat is cute, funny and very solid. The sticky pad on the base is strong and my dude hasn’t fallen off the edge or needed resticking yet.

He only costs £4.99 from Robert Dyas and if you love him, you can throw in the Meerkat Keyring which talks to you…

Zhu Zhu Pets Ice Cream Parlour £3.99 @ Home Bargains

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 7 December, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Zhu Zhu Pets Ice Cream Parlour £3.99 @ Home Bargains

Ok, so, I have moaned about the cost of any Zhu Zhu accessories for ages, especially since I bought one and found it to be utterly awful plastic tat that was badly made and easily broken. I have ignored the Zhu Zhu habitats since then. However, this bargain from Home Bargains (he he) is really, really good and makes getting the habitat worth the risk.

The Zhu Zhu pets ice cream parllud is down from £19.99 to only £3.99 – that is a whopping saving of £16 off the original price. I am very impressed with this and have, obviously, snapped the deal up. What you get is an ice cream parlour for your Zhu Zhu hamster, ice cream accessories and the ability to link up with other Zhu Zhu accessories.

If you already have the ice cream parlour, Home Bargains also has the Zhu Zhu Babies tree swing and power pod on sale. This is down from £15.99 to £3.99, not as mahoosive a saving, and I think that an adult hamster powers it or something. There are also several Zhu Zhu hamsters on sale for £2.99 as well.

National Geographic Night Vision Goggles £8.99 @ Argos

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 27 November, 2011 at 4:00 pm

National Geographic Night Vision Goggles £8.99 @ Argos

These National Geographic glasses have been around for a while now, I remember seeing them on sale all of last Christmas and in the sales. These are down from £13.49 to £8.99 at Argos, a saving of 1/3 off the original price, and are free to collect from your nearest store.

These National Geographic night vision goggles take exploring to a whole new level. They have enhanced light and sound features so that the hi-tech headgear gives children the ultimate toy for outdoor fun and exploration.

The National Geographic night vision goggles come with a high powered flash light and a sonic ear listening device with an automatic volume limiter to keep sound at a safe level. It needs two AAA batteries that are not included in the price, and they are ideal for kids over the age of eight as younger hands and fingers would likely break these sensitive glasses.

Winnie The Pooh Interactive Friend Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 26 November, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Winnie The Pooh Interactive Friend Review

The Winnie the Pooh Interactive Friend is another of the big Christmas gifts of 2011 and Amazon sent it to us for review. This toy won far more points for me than the FurReal Friends Cookie pup, not only because it is just so much more fun.

You start out by programming your interactive Winnie the Pooh by pressing his nose or hand according to the instructions. You set the time of day and then proceed to schedule your child’s daily routine, from waking up to lunchtime to night routine. It is a fiddly procedure, a tad confusing at first, and took me three tries to get right.

I did get a bit irritated with it, if I am honest, as the instructions are fairly vague. However, once I got the idea it was quick enough to fix and sort out. Winnie the Pooh Interactive Friend will now talk to your child at specific times of the day saying things like, “Oooh, I’ve got a rumbly in my tumbly” when it’s time to eat, or, “I am so very tired” when it’s bed time.

When my daughter is at school Winnie has given me more than one start of surprise by talking while I’ve been working away at my desk. It’s rather funny.

Winnie the Pooh Interactive Friend is very cuddly and soft, he comes with a honey pot and spoon, and he can play hide and seek. A press of his hand or nose starts up a game and you hide him and your child hears his cues to find him. It’s really cute.

Overall this is definitely a winner for me. The price is decent, the interactivity brilliant, and the fact you can play games with him is fab. He doesn’t respond to voice commands but this seems a small price to pay. A fabulous Christmas gift for any child and the price is reduced on Amazon at the moment.

Annoying Monsters Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 24 November, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Annoying Monsters Review

On the lookout for really weird and funny Christmas gifts? I think I may have found them. The Annoying Monsters are a bunch of adorable toys that come in a variety of shapes, sizes and features, cost £20 on average (Play.com have them at a discount) and have a website that offers lots of lovely extras.

The Annoying Monsters have a story, the story is printed on the box and carried through onto the website where kids can paint, enter competitions, read more stories, and watch Annoying Monster videos.

I was impressed with the variety of stuff on offer on the Annoying Monsters website and with the toy itself. A while ago we reviewed a talking meerkat that my kid loves, still loves, and will probably always love. Her Annoying Monster has supplanted her meerkat. Why?

Well, the Annoying Monsters offer you the same feature – press the button, talk, listen to your voice repeated back to you in an annoyingly high voice – as well as plenty of others. Poke their eyes and they scream, press their foot and they giggle and jump around, press their stomach and they burp and fart.

If you leave your Annoying Monster alone it will snore loudly and if you cuddle it, it may fart on you. Hilarious for kids of almost any age. The only issues I had with this toy were basic ones. My daughter, age 5, struggled with the recording function. Unlike the meerkat toy I mentioned earlier, if you press the button mid-record or while it is repeating, the toy will either stop talking or refuse to record, or it will record without warning. It took a couple of tries to help her get her head around the way it worked.

I wouldn’t call this a flaw because the toy is really well made, soft and cuddly, very funny and lots of fun. Definitely a big thumbs up as a daft and entertaining Christmas gift.

The Top 12 Christmas Gifts For 2011

Lynley did a fabulous post at the end of October that outlined some of the leading toy categories for Christmas 2011 and many of those items are still sitting on the Must Have Christmas 2011 hot list still. However, there have been some new additions for kids and parents that are well worth taking a look at as we inch ever closer to the big day.

To start with the trend for virtual pets is still going strong with the likes of FurReal Cookie sitting at the top spot for Christmas buys. We recently reviewed Cookie and didn’t think he was that great so so here is our look at the top 12 trending Christmas gifts for 2011...

Oregon Scientific Little Learning Laptop £8.74 @ Argos

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 23 November, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Oregon Scientific Little Learning Laptop £8.74 @ Argos

I am honestly not sure about these laptops that go on sale for kids as many of them turn out to be pretty awful. However, for some these may well be an excellent choice as a Christmas gift for a niece or nephew and this particular kids laptop at £8.74 is a pretty good deal.

The Oregon Little Learning kids laptop provides your kids with lots of learning fun. Pre-schoolers can take part in 32 different interactive activities that have been designed to boost skills in maths, logic and vocabulary.

This kids laptop provides interactive learning fun and teaches things like the alphabet, numbers and colour recognition and comes with a simple A-Z keyboard so they can learn to navigate it as well. There are five double-sided interactive cards with rear storage supplied and six coloured pens. It comes with the three AA batteries required to run it and it is suitable for kids over the age of three.

Sparkz The Talking Dog £9.99 @ eBay Ocean Tree Trading

Sparkz The Talking Dog £9.99 @ eBay Ocean Tree Trading

Amid the mad clutter of talking toys this Christmas comes another sweet little talking toy that may be slightly better just because it is so much cheaper! Here you get Sparkz the Talking Dog for only £9.99 including free delivery.

Click here to talk to a dog with eBay Ocean Tree Trading

There are three kinds of dog you can get in this range including Rock and Roll, Super Sparkz and Hip Hop. The dogs sing, dance, tell funny jokes and stories and wag their tails. What more could you ask from a furry friend? I mean, a real dog just drools on you…

The Rock and Roll Sparkz responds to questions like Who are you? and Are you a real dog? So kids can interact with him and enjoy having fun with him as they go. I have no idea what these dogs are like because the more expensive ones, like Cookie, really aren’t all that so these could be awful. Either way, I am definitely grabbing some for this price…

The Adventures Of Tintin Blu-ray £16.98 @ Sendit

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 22 November, 2011 at 3:00 pm

The Adventures Of Tintin Blu-ray £16.98 @ Sendit

This is an excellent price for the entire Tintin series on Blu-ray for only £14.99 and costing £16.98 with delivery charges included. Usually the entire Tintin series retails for around £59.99 so this is a whopping bargain for an ace Christmas gift.

Tintin is the world’s most famous boy reporter and with his faithful (and smart) dog, Snowy, at his side, he gets involved in all sorts of crazy adventures. I am delighted by the Tintin madness that’s going around at the moment, I loved Tintin as a kid. Who doesn’t have a soft spot for billions of blistering barnacles Captain Haddock?

The box set here consists of one disc with all the episodes on it along with the usual cast of colourful characters. There’s Thompson and Thomson, Professor Calculis, Oliveira da Figueira and many more. This Blu-ray will definitely be a hit with any young one who likes adventure and laughter.

Micro Scalextric G1065F Supercars £39.96 @ Debenhams

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 17 November, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Micro Scalextric G1065F Supercars £39.96 @ Debenhams

This is a rather good price for the Micro Scalextric set at Debenhams. They have marked it down from £90 to £39.96 including delivery (using the code ZM94). The set is part of the supercars theme and is 1:64 race set.

Get ready for some extreme street race action as two Aston Martin DBS supercars take on each other on a large extended figure of eight track. The track includes a flyover and a tricky chicane section to make things just that little bit more interesting.

Micro Scalextric is ideal for the younger slot racer and is a perfect introduction to the action packed world of Scalextric racing. I still love these sets and can’t wait until we have a bigger place so I can get one for my daughter and I to race on.

These are brilliant fun and this would make a stunning addition to the Christmas tree pile this Christmas.
