Leapfrog Tag Reading System Green £14.99 @ Toys R UsI'm not a fan of electronic reading books if I'm honest, but I'm gradually coming round to them being a rather good way to develop a love of books in children - especially those who may be a little reluctant to start with .

Toys R Us are selling this Leapfrog Tag Reading System for half price - £14.99 instead of £29.99

Did you watch the fairly recent series on TV 'Gareth Malone's Extraordinary School for Boys'?  He was looking at why boys are so far behind in their reading abilities and set out to change the way they're taught to bring them more in-line with girls  (I adore Gareth Malone and the way he gets the best out of people).  I must admit I was shocked at the reading statistics, it's a disgrace that our young boys are being allowed to get so far behind.

So whilst I might not feel very warm towards electronic reading books like this Leapfrog Tag reading system, if it sparks an interest in reading then it can only be a good thing!

Happy electronic reading

Bugsby Electronic Reading System £9.99 @ Vtech

Bugsby Electronic Reading System £9.99 @ VtechVtech have, for the time being, reduced the Bugsby Reading System down to £9.99 from £29.99; this is such a good price for this that you'll probably have to be quick to get your hands on one.

I admit it, I prefer REAL books; the ones that have pages made from paper that make a lovely sound when you turn them.

But with reading standards in the UK well below what they should be for lots of kids, I'm happy to go with anything that inspires a love of reading books regardless of their format.

The Bugsby Reading System is an expandable system with other Bugsby story cartridge titles available featuring well-loved characters like Scooby Doo, Sponge Bob Square Pants and the Mr Men and Little Miss.

Vtech also have five story cartridges on special offer too - £4.99 instead of £12.99.

The pen used to interact with the book is Bugsby himself –  he's a Bookworm who will, and I quote, "take your child on magical adventures of reading and discovery." They can even create their own stories too.

Bugsby’s little antennae light up, he has volume controls, a jack to plug headphones into (not included) and there’s no need for additional computer software either, just put the story cartridges, and 3 AAA batteries (again, not included) into his back and he’s ready to go!

I’ve written about Bugsby before and each time I search for bad reviews - I've yet to come across one, so you really aren't going to go wrong with this Vtech purchase.

The Bugsby Reading System is aimed at young readers aged between three and seven years old.

I must confess I'm a traditional book kind of girl.  I'm not a fan of electronic books and I gave my Kindle away as it just wasn't the same reading experience not being able to turn paper pages.

That said, if electronic books, like this Bugsby Reading System, are what it takes to encourage reading in youngsters aged between three and seven years old, then I'm all for them!

The Bugsby Reading System is an expandable system with other Bugsby story cartridge titles available featuring well-loved characters like Scooby Doo, Sponge Bob Square Pants and the Mr Men and Little Miss.
