Scooby Doo DVD Christmas Collection £3.95 @ Base

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 October, 2011 at 9:00 am

Scooby Doo DVD Christmas Collection £3.95 @ BaseBase have reduced the price of this Scooby Doo Christmas Collection DVD; they've brought it down from £12.99 to £3.95.

Scooby Doo, that beloved doggy, has stood the test of time and fought off all the young pretenders, that have come and gone, to remain a very firm kids' favourite.

I remember watching Scoob' when I was little; my mum would stop whatever it was she was doing to come and watch too - Scooby rocked in our household.

I've been rediscovering my love for Scooby Doo recently as my youngest, despite Ben 10, Star Wars Clone Wars, Bakugan and everything else modern, has developed a love for the guys (and dog) of Mystery Inc.

All of his Christmas presents are pretty much sorted now and I'm tempted to buy this Scooby Doo DVD Christmas Collection, just as an extra something.

Three festive episodes are on this DVD, so it's something you can put on when there's half an hour to kill, rather than know you'll be watching hours and hours of  Scooby - even with Scoob',  sometimes less really is more.

Base don't charge for UK delivery, dispatch is usually within 24 hours and your Scooby Doo Christmas Collection DVD should land on your doorstep three to five days after that.

Timmy Time: Timmy The Train DVD & Plush Toy £3.95 @ Zavvi

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 15 October, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Timmy Time: Timmy The Train DVD & Plush Toy £3.95 @ ZavviWe haven't had a good Timmy Time deal for a while, so its' rather nice to see him back. If you pop over to Zavvi you can pick up a Timmy Time: Timmy the Train DVD plus a plush Timmy toy too, all for £3.95 instead of £12.71.

I love Timmy, but then Shaun the Sheep (of Wallace and Grommit fame) was one of my favourite characters too.

Quite how the animators manage to convey such comedy expression on a faces with limited features is beyond me.

Timmy, if you didn't know, is Shaun the Sheep's nephew and he first graced the small screen three, or so, years ago - I remember watching the first one with my youngest, who's five now, and we  both loved it.

As the theme tune goes, "...he's a little lamb with a lot to learn."  This is very true and the Timmy Time episodes follow Timmy and his pre-school friends as they discover all sorts of things about sharing and doing the right thing at the right time.

It's not remotely patronising though and Timmy and pals are rather cheeky; a perfect blend of comedy and 'teaching' for youngsters, in my opinion.

There's no delivery to pay with Zavvi and the delivery time for this Timmy Time DVD is currently being stated as 'usually dispatched within 10 days', so a bit of planning ahead might be in order if you need this soonish.

Something Special: Where Are You Now Mr Tumble DVD £5.49 @ Play

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 12 October, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Something Special: Where Are You Now Mr Tumble DVD £5.49 @ PlayThis Something Special: Where Are You Now Mr Tumble? DVD is £5.49 at Play, HMV and Amazon at the moment (price war for Mr Tumble anyone?!), the next cheapest price I could find was £7.20 at Base and Zavvi, with it going up to close to the £10 mark on the virtual shelves at Sainsbury's.

(or HERE for HMV and HERE for Amazon if you prefer)

There are some children's TV programmes that are just brilliant; Something Special is one of them.

The whole concept is fabulous and everyone in the family loved watching it, when my youngest was young enough not to have been stolen away by the 'bright marketing lights' of Ben 10, Transformers, Tom and Jerry and Garfield.

It was the Mr Tumble sketches that I longed for; absolute comedy genius.

By far my favourite was when Mr Tumble went to his local library - lots of the Tumble family were there reading books, including a guest appearance by Cliff Tumble! I bet you didn't know Cliff Richard had a Tumble cousin did you!

It was one of the funniest things I've seen on kids TV and, if I'm honest, will be heading over to YouTube just now to see if it's there.

There's no delivery to pay with either Play, HMV or Amazon so it's entirely up to you who you give your money too for this one.

Back To The Future Trilogy £14.39 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 6 October, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Back To The Future Trilogy £14.39 @ Play.com

Here is another deal to add to your basket using the code 48MEDIA that I mentioned in my 4pm deal post. Snap up the entire Back to the Future Trilogy in one lovely box set for only £14.39 alongside your copy of Fantastic Mr Fox and you’ve got two ace Christmas gifts ready to go.

I am sure I don’t need to go into detail about this famous trio of films? From the very first which has us hating Buzz, disliking Marty’s dad and loving the mad professor to the weirdness of the Wild Wild West and the flying future – these movies are funny, touching and brilliant.

The box set includes a ton of special features too. You get a new six-part retrospective documentary with interviews with Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd – among other famous faces – as well as the physics, deleted scenes, new endings and more.

Don’t forget to use the special voucher code to get this price and that it expires at midnight on 07 October.

Fantastic Mr Fox £2.39 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 6 October, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Fantastic Mr Fox £2.39 @ Play.com

The Fantastic Mr Fox DVD is down to £2.39 if you use the voucher code outlined below and buy it before midnight tomorrow. This classic text has been brought to life with the voices of a plethora of famous faces including George Clooney and Meryl Streep and usually sells for far more.

The voucher code you need to get the extra pennies off your order (which is delivered for free btw) is 48MEDIA. This is probably not a great use of this discount, I’d throw in some extras, but it does make a difference to the price.

The Fantastic Mr Fox is the story of three horrible famers – Boggis, Bunce and Bean – who are dedicated to destroying the wily and wonderful Mr Fox. He eats their chickens, they pull out all the stops and surround his den, doing their best to capture him.

What follows is a gripping, brilliant, funny and delightful story that will keep kids on tenterhooks and entertain the whole family. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the movie so if you’ve seen it, do let me know if it is worth getting!

Lethal Weapon 1-4 £5 @ Tesco Entertainment

Lethal Weapon 1-4 £5 @ Tesco Entertainment

I’m too old for this ****!

Remember that line? Well, if you do, then you will have fond memories of a brilliant action series from the 80s and 90s that had us all drooling over Mel Gibson’s butt and laughing at poor Danny Glover’s attempts to rein him in.

Paying only £5 for all four films is rather brilliant. This is a superb low price even if the movies are old and dated. You certainly won’t be able to watch them today without a modicum of cringing and embarrassment, but they are superb in terms of a trip down memory lane.

Which was your favourite movie? The first one or the evil South African one with Patsy Kensit? Or did you prefer the next one which had so much more anguish for poor old Mel’s character? The movies were pretty gritty and indepth for their time and who doesn’t enjoying an exploding toilet?

This would make a lovely stocking filler for a mum or dad of the 80s…

101 Dalmations 2: Patch’s London Adventure £1.95 @ Play

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 25 September, 2011 at 8:00 am

101 Dalmations 2: Patch’s London Adventure £1.95 @ Play

Not a bad price for a DVD this, only £1.95 including delivery is a low price for the latest in the Dalmations movies, even if it isn’t that good. 101 Dalmations 2: Patch’s London Adventure is sweet enough for the kids but may make purists shudder.

Roger, Anita and their canine clan are packing for the big move to Dalmation Plantation. This is their home in the country with plenty of room for the 101 pups and far from the clutches of Cruella deVille. The feistiest pup, Patch, feels lost in a sea of spots and longs to be a wonderdog like his TV hero, Thunderbolt.

While watching the show Patch hears about a chance to appear on the show and so he hides from his family and runs off to London. There are some genuinely funny moments in the show where Cruella undergoes therapy for her spot addictions and they link into other movies in the Disney franchise.

You won’t necessarily end up thinking it is the best movie ever, but for under £2 including delivery it makes a fab stocking filler…

Charlie And Lola Complete DVD Collection £12.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 September, 2011 at 9:00 am

Charlie And Lola Complete DVD Collection £12.99 @ AmazonHurrah for Amazon and their fabulous price for this Charlie and Lola DVD collection; you can pick one up for £12.99 (until they put the price back up) instead of the £24ish that everyone else is selling it for.

Eleven Charlie and Lola DVDs make up this Absolutely Complete Box Set, so when it says ‘complete’ it means complete; 80 fabulous episodes were shown on cBeebies and now they're yours to keep and watch whenever you want.

If these Charlie and Lola DVDs were available when my youngest son was very into the brother and sister duo, I would absolutely and most definitely have bought them as there were times when he really wanted to watch a particular episode.

I suppose it's possible that some people don't know who Charlie and Lola are; just in case you're one of them, here's a quick Charlie and Lola lesson...

Charlie is a boy and he has a younger sister called Lola.

Lola is very cheeky and rather funny; she has a black and white view of the world and relies on Charlie to teach her the different shades of grey.

Utterly endearing and wonderfully simple, I don't know any child who doesn't find Charlie and Lola funny and engrossing.

Dance Juniors £7.99 @ The Hut

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 19 September, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Dance Juniors £7.99 @ The Hut

Dance Juniors for the Nintendo Wii is a pretty darn cool game and it is utterly brilliant for cold, wet and miserable days where going outdoors fills you with dread. I got this for my daughter for her birthday and she loves, loves, loves it.

The price of the game usually sits at around £39.99, although, to be fair, I’ve never seen it sold at full price. I’ve only ever seen it sold on special offer. Still, you are paying less than £8 including free delivery for a great game that will keep them busy for years.

The game is based on the same principles as Just Dance 2 – kids hold the wiimote in their hands and get jiggy with cool tunes in the living room. While we had some issues with the controllers at first, the game ended up being a hit. The songs are sweet, the exercise irrefutable, and the fun level is high.

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince £3.98 @ Bee.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 18 September, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince £3.98 @ Bee.com

This is the sixth instalment of the Harry Potter series and starts at the end of The Order of the Phoenix. Bee.com is selling the DVD and Blu-ray for £3.98 which is a very good deal indeed.

The special offer on Bee.com does seem exceptionally good for such a recent movie. It looks like it is the DVD and Blu-ray set combined, so you get one disc of each, for less than you’d usually pay just for one of them.

The disc is dispatched within 24 hours which is pretty cool. The DVD covers how the wizarding world is rocked by the fact that Voldemort has truly returned. The only problem is that nobody seems to believe Harry or his friends and he’s in for a rather rough time of it.

The movie is alright, it annoyed me that it didn’t follow the book as well as it could have and yet managed to include random and silly extra scenes that added no particular value. However, as an addition to the set it is a nice low price.

Chuggington Rattling Rivets DVD Plus Limited Edition Die-cast Figure £4.99 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 13 September, 2011 at 10:00 am

Chuggington Rattling Rivets DVD Plus Limited Edition Die-cast Figure £4.99 @ HMVHMV, and Amazon too, are selling this Chuggington Rattling Rivets DVD - complete with limited edition die-cast figure - for £4.99.

Now, I've just had a quick nosey around and discovered that the BBC shop are selling this DVD WITHOUT the die-cast figure for £5.75 instead of the £8.19 rrp.

And, bizarrely, Amazon are selling the non figure version for £4.99 as well; why would you buy the version that doesn't have the Limited Edition Old Puffer Pete Die-Cast Train, when you can spend the same money and have him included?

Anyway, there are six episodes for your little Chuggington fan to watch over and over and over

  • Rock-a-Bye Chatsworth
  • Old Puffer Pete’s Firebox
  • Poor Old Puffer Pete
  • Brewster Knows Best
  • Bubbly Olwin
  • Koko’s Puppy Training

You'll have to be a little bit patient though as the release date for this Chuggington Rattling Rivets DVD is 19 September.

Horrible Histories Series 2 £5.57 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 12 September, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Horrible Histories Series 2 £5.57 @ Amazon

Amazon is selling the entire season 2 of Horrible Histories for £5.57 including free delivery, this is an excellent price for a truly brilliant TV series that has me rolling with laughter every time. What a genius concept.

Season 2 of the Horrible Histories is as revolting and rotten as Season 1 and has been created by some of Britain’s finest talents. The series teaches kids about all the best bits of history and brings them to life with brilliant sketches, cartoons and quizzes.

Rattus Rattus and the gang are back with all the favourites including Stupid Deaths, Historical Wife Swap, and new features such as Historical Detective D.I. Bones and Historical Desktops. There are hilarious musical numbers (Spartan High School Musical anyone?) and the history of Charles II and WW2.

The series is a truly brilliant way of teaching kids about history and will even have you cackling along with the crazy tunes and hilarious skits.

Lost And Found (Oliver Jeffers) DVD £2.99 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 12 September, 2011 at 11:00 am

Lost And Found (Oliver Jeffers) DVD £2.99 @ HMVI've never heard of Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers before but, having read various reviews about the story, I'm clearly going to have to remedy this situation.

Lost and Found is a story about a little boy who finds a penguin on his doorstep (as you do!) and, sensing the penguin is unhappy being so far away from home, decides to row him all the way back to the South Pole.

Now, I'm already sold as that just sounds TOO cute but if you need a bit more persuading, here's what people who've already read/seen Lost and Found have to say about it...

"This animation is incredible. My little boy adores it and tells anyone and everyone about it. I am a massive fan of Oliver Jeffers' books, from one of which this animation is based upon, and therefore I was apprehensive on my first viewing.

My concerns melted away within seconds, the animation is breathtaking, and the narration and music complement it beautifully. If you are to buy one dvd this year, make it this one. I promise you won't be disappointed."

Not enough...?

"I have just watched this completely by accident on televsion, it came on and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. I have come straight on here to buy it. The animation is absolutely wonderful, the story is warm and fuzzy, a nice tonic for my cynicism! I highly recommend this for all ages, im 25 and I found it spellbinding."

Still want more...?

"Brilliant. I loved it! My wife loved it! My grown up children loved it! My Grandchildren loved it! And it's just the right length to hold attention. A beautiful little gem!"

If that's not enough to help you decide whether or not you want to own, and watch, the Lost and Found DVD then I, humbly, suggest that perhaps it's not for you.

HMV are selling it for £2.99 at the moment, as are Amazon, - there's no postage to pay with either -  so if it goes out of stock in one, you can go and grab it from the other.

Shrek Quadrilogy £14.99 @ Bee.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 11 September, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Shrek Quadrilogy £14.99 @ Bee.com

This is another ace deal that would make someone a lovely Christmas present. This is the entire Shrek series – from episode one until episode four – in one lovely gift box. It is only selling for £14.99, which is a pretty darn awesome price for four DVDs, and you can also get some Quidco…

Those of you who have just moved into civilisation from the great white wastes of the Antarctic may not have heard of Shrek so here is a brief summary. Shrek is an ogre with attitude followed around by a funny talking donkey (In the morning I am making waffles!), who saves a princess who is also an ogre but isn’t and they take the mickey out of every, single fairytale known to man.

Got it?

Brilliant. The series is actually beyond brilliant although, the less said about the third movie the better, that one was a real turnip. However, the fourth movie reinvigorated the series something chronic and was hilarious from start to finish. This is well worth the price at only £14.99 for four (or three) excellent movies.

Thanks to Turnip from HUKD!

Black Adder - The Ultimate Collection £15.99 @ Sendit

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 10 September, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Black Adder - The Ultimate Collection £15.99 @ Sendit You're either a Black Adder fan or you're not; if you know someone who is then this Blackadder - Ultimate Collection six DVD box set will make for a cunning Christmas or birthday present.

Sendit are currently selling Black Adder - The Ultimate Collection for £15.99 instead of £59.99 and it's worth every penny as far as I'm concerned, especially when you see how much it's being sold for everywhere else:

  • Zavvi £24.85
  • Base.com £24.99
  • Play.com £26.99
  • Tesco £28.00
  • HMV £29.99

My favourites were Series Two with Miranda Richardson playing Queen Elizabeth (she was brilliant) along with Series Four, set during the First World War, and its incredibly moving ending when they all 'go over the top' into No-Man's land.

I wasn't so keen on Series Three which was set in the Regency period and I have no recollection of the first series at all.

Six discs make up this Black Adder Ultimate Collection, with a couple of the discs being dedicated to various interviews, commentaries and extended documentaries.

I know several people who'd LOVE this and they may well be finding it wrapped up under their Christmas trees this year.

Spy Kids 1-3 Collection £9.99 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 1 September, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Spy Kids 1-3 Collection £9.99 @ Amazon

I have never watched these movies but they are apparently great fun, especially for the kids. You get action, adventure, mayhem, destruction, super powers and all sorts which is exactly what kids want to see, especially as the cold weather sneaks in all around us.

Amazon has marked the set down to only £9.99 for all three Spy Kids films, making this an excellent price for hours of family entertainment. You can also get it delivered for free using Super Saver although that does tend to take a very long time.

The series is basically a James Bond  adventure for kids and I have to quietly confess that having watched trailers to these movies over the years, they do look like enormous fun. When you are a kid you wish you had the ability to save the world or don a superhero coat, and movies are an escape to the world of imagination.

Mister Maker 2-Disc DVD Set £4.85 @ Zavvi

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 31 August, 2011 at 9:00 am

Mister Maker 2-Disc DVD Set £4.85 @ ZavviZavvi are currently selling a double pack of Mister Maker DVDs for £4.85.

I've had a quick look around and you can also buy for £5 from Zavvi, £4.99 from the BBC shop - but you'll pay £2.95 for delivery - and £4.49 from Amazon, but they have a delivery time of between one and two months, yes MONTHS!

*sings* La La LAAA Mister Maker!

Mister Maker was one of my favourites kids TV characters – utterly bonkers, lots of fun and, as a family, we’ve made lots of the things featured on the show.

I haven’t watched Mister Maker for a good couple of years now; there are lots of little kiddy programmes I don’t get to see now my youngest is at school every day,

My favourite thing we made has to be Mr Grass Head: we got an old pair of tights, put some grass seed in the toe, then packed it with cotton wool, added some essential googly eyes, a nose and mouth etc, then watered him.

Not too long later our little character had a thick head or grassy hair that we could cut into various styles as it grew and grew, it was great!

We were even going to and go and see him in Bath with Tamsin and her daughter - I don't know who was more disappointed when we couldn't get tickets, the kids or me and her!

These Mister Maker DVDs are great things to have stashed away in the DVD drawer for a rainy day, or if you need to grab a few minutes to yourself to do something important uninterrupted, and then when you’re done with that important thing you can come back and make something a’la Mister Maker; just brilliant, I love him and his gloopy glue.

Star Wars The Complete Saga (Blu Ray) £57.37 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 29 August, 2011 at 11:00 am

Star Wars The Complete Saga (Blu Ray) £57.37 @ TescoThe Star Wars Complete Saga Blu ray box set is now available to pre-order; it's release date is 12 September and Tesco are currently offering 15% off Star Wars movies and games, bringing the Complete Saga price down to a guaranteed £57.37 instead of £67.49.

Amazon and all the other usual suspects are pre-selling Star Wars The Complete Saga box sets for £67.49, so if you want to save yourself a tenner don't go to them.

I've been waiting for The Complete Saga to be released for a g e s.

The original three Star Wars movies formed a massive part of my childhood; they'd be part of my desert island DVD collection if I was ever asked to compile such a thing.

I had the original movies in a box set once and then my youngest got seriously into them, they now live with him and I've been patiently waiting to replace them with The Complete Saga ever since.

This complete set of six movies is something I just want to own - I like things to be complete and just owning the first three films now wouldn't be good enough because ONE day I fully intend to sit down and have a Star Wars Day where I watch all six back to back.

Please don't forget to add the 15% Star Wars discount code to your basket - 15SW-1 - otherwise you'll pay full price for it.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides £12 @ Tesco

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides £12 @ Tesco

If you have the entire Pirates of the Caribbean collection at home and are avidly waiting for the last one to arrive instore, then this deal should make you very happy indeed. You get the movie for only £12 on preorder plus you get 350 free clubcard points worth £10.50. Bonus!

If you preorder Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides you pay £12 and get 150 extra clubcard points. Combine this with the code 200ccaug-1 which you can use when you spend over £10 and you get an additional 200 points thrown in.

The movie is the fourth instalment in the series (although I am not sure why this is a good idea seeing as the last two were awful) and includes the acting talents of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. It doesn’t have Keira Knightley or that elf (hahah) in it but there is a pretty impressive cast.

I’ll be honest, I’d watch it just to see Ian McShane as the dreaded Blackbeard, he is truly excellent at that sort of role.

What do you think? A good movie or a terrible flop?
