Disney's 101 Dalmatians Three Disc Boxset £8.99 @ Argos

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 2 January, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Disney's 101 Dalmatians Three Disc Boxset £8.99 @ ArgosArgos seem to be emptying out every last nook and cranny in their storerooms, they’re shooting out special offers faster than you can say “Omar Sharif”. This three-disc box set for £8.99 is no exception. The set includes 101 Dalmations, the original classic story, 101 Dalmations 2 and a bonus DVD.

The original movie was released in 1961 and still oozes the charm and sweetness we loved as children. Cruella De Vil is as terrifying, and weird, as I remember her and the puppies so cute I could happily own a hundred of them myself.

The second movie was released in 2001 and takes the journey forward to when the little puppies have grown up a bit more and want to start having adventures of their own. Patch, one of the little Dalmatians decides to go off on his own to meet his favourite TV star but unfortunately Cruella has not quite recovered from her obsession with spots... Disney's 101 Dalmatians Three Disc Boxset £8.99 @ Argos

I loved the first movie but have to confess to not enjoying the second, it seemed that some of the old magic was missing. Perhaps that’s just my inner child struggling to let go of an old favourite though. Kids will adore these movies and, I’m willing to bet, so will you.

The Jungle Book 2: Special Edition DVD £5.49 + Free Delivery @ HMV

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Deals on 2 January, 2010 at 10:00 am

The Jungle Book 2: Special Edition DVD £5.49 + Free Delivery @ HMVHurrah, Baloo is back! And you can celebrate his return with this special offer on the DVD of The Jungle Book 2, now available from HMV for £5.49 instead of £14.99.

Disney's 'Man Cub' Mowgli (voice of Haley Joel Osment) is back in this animated sequel to the 1967 classic. Mowgli, now living with an adopted family in a nearby jungle village, is homesick for his jungle adventures and his good friends, like Baloo the Bear (voice of John Goodman) and Bagheera the Panther (voice of Bob Joles). But because the villagers believe that the jungle is a dangerous place for children, Mowgli isn't allowed to visit. Bored and lonely, he dreams of his carefree days in the jungle and finally runs away from his new home to visit the jungle and the friends he left behind. This time he is followed by his neighbour Shanti (voice of Mae Whitman) and together they meet Baloo and friends for more adventures. The fun-loving, jovial bear is overjoyed to see his old friend, and a little jealous of Shanti, but together they share some spirited JUNGLE BOOK moments, to the tune of original classics like Bare Necessities and I Wanna Be Like You and new hits like W.I.L.D. Mowgli is thrilled that things in the jungle haven't changed, until he realises that Shere Khan (voice of Tony Jay) the Tiger is thirsty for revenge and threatening to harm his jungle family. Together with Shanti, Baloo, Bagheera, and some new faces like Lucky the Vulture (Phil Collins) Mowgli must fight Shere Khan one last time.

The Jungle Book 2: Special Edition DVD £5.49 + Free Delivery @ HMVI haven't seen this but the first Jungle Book is a huge hit in our house. It's one of the few DVDs that always gets requested and is played on repeat. My kids  just never tire of Mowgli's antics and I LOVE Baloo. He's like an animated anti-depressant - you just can't watch him without feeling like singing and dancing. So we'll definitely be picking up this special edition DVD and looking forward to the next rainy afternoon...

The Gruffalo DVD £7.49 + Free Delivery @ HMV

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Deals on 1 January, 2010 at 11:00 am

The Gruffalo DVD £7.49 + Free Delivery @ HMVThis new Gruffalo DVD isn't out until the 23rd March 2010 but you can pre-order it from HMV for £7.49 with free delivery instead of £12.99.

An animated film based on the classic children's picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, The Gruffalo tells the magical tale of a mouse who takes a walk though the woods in search of a nut. Encountering three predators who all wish to eat him - a fox, an owl and a snake - the plucky mouse has to use his wits to survive. He announces that he is meeting a monster with terrible features, a 'Gruffalo'.

This was shown on TV as part of the BBC Christmas 2009 season and you can watch it again on BBC iPlayer until 7.29pm on Saturday 2nd January 2010. I predict we'll have watched it online at least seventy hundred times by then, so thank goodness we can pre-order the DVD. I might even get my laptop back.

The Gruffalo DVD £7.49 + Free Delivery @ HMV

The animation is perfect, bringing the book to life flawlessly, and the all-star cast makes it something I'm happy to watch over and over again. James Corden of Gavin & Stacey fame is completely brilliant as the mouse, and Rob Brydon has the snake down to a fine art. And who better to play the Gruffalo himself but Robbie Coltrane? Genius. Even the seventy hundredth time round.
