Read-Along Stories £5.98 @ Debenhams

There are two Read – Along – Stories on sale at Debenhams. There’s the Disney Five Slipcase Adventure Tales and the Disney Princess Read-Along Tales, both of which have an RRP of £24.95 – although our every sharp HUKD members spotted them around Christmas for between £7 and £10. They’re for sale at £7.48, but with the code below you can get them for £5.98.

Read along to Disney Princesses
Read along to the Five Adventure Tales

  • Discount: £1.50
  • Expires: Unknown
  • Discount Code: TH96

These are hardback books that come with a CD.  The Disney Princesses include stories about The Princess and the Frog, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

The Adventure Stories include tales from Toy Story 1, Cars 1, UP, Peter Pan and The Jungle Book.

The CD’s have a read-along story for each ‘book’ and features original movie sounds, character voices and music.

Apparently,  they aren’t highly illustrated, so are more suitable to older children who can actually read along, rather than just follow with the pictures. (Thanks for that bit of info, FunMum at HUKD).

Free Lion King Activity Sheets, Bookmarks And More @ Disney

by Tamsin Oxford in Freebies on 13 January, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Free Lion King Activity Sheets, Bookmarks And More @ Disney

This is pretty good for a freebie as kids get to download and enjoy a bunch of Lion King things and goodies for free without having to first spend any money gathering points. These are part of the Disney Rewards scheme but are totally free.

The free items that you can download and print include a Lion King activity sheet series that has a colouring in page, a spot the difference, some word games and more. This is great for long journeys or entertaining the kids on a rainy afternoon.

Next up in the freebie line-up is the Lion King bookmarks that you can print out for the kids to use in their books. I recommend sticking them to cardboard first. Then the Lion King Buffet and Smoothie maker is the free kit that gives you recipes to make and have fun with, like edible bugs to freak out their friends.

Special Agent Oso Bear £10 @ Disney

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 12 December, 2011 at 9:00 am

Special Agent Oso Bear £10 @ DisneyIf you were in the cuddly toy market last year then you might remember all the fuss that surrounded this Special Agent Oso Bear - the world went crazy for him!  He's back this year, on sale at the Disney Store, for £10 instead of £18.

It's almost impossible to believe that more than a year has gone by since we were all sitting here in the PlayPennies office, in utter bemusement at all the brouhaha and frantic parental searching for one of these Special Agent Oso Bears.

They went out of stock as soon as they were IN stock and I saw a Special Agent Oso Bear up for sale on that well known auction site for more than three times the rrp!

None of us had any clue about Special Agent Oso Bear until Lynley wrote about him, then we discovered that all hell had broken loose in the toy world and Special Agent Oso was HOT!

After a quick bit of research, I discovered that Special Agent Oso is a blue and yellow panda (you don't see many of those!) who's a special agent and comes to the aid and rescue of kids who need him.

I could do with a Special Agent Oso Magic-Wand-Waving Bear today, I've got three days of things that I need to cram into today before 10pm!  So on that note I'm off to track down the next deal to tell you about.

Disney Cars 2 Back To School Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 2 September, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Disney Cars 2 Back To School ReviewI’m sure you’ve noticed that Cars 2 is the new big thing this year and Disney are leading the way in Back To School merchandising. Of course, when they sent us a basket of Cars 2 goodies, we had a good rummage through, before sending them out to Tessa, PlayPennies mum to little Jack.

We sent Jack (or Tessa, really) the Cars 2 Backpack, which features a full panel artwork of Lightning McQueen and other film favourites. It has a large interior with front zip pockets, side mesh pockets and adjustable shoulder straps.

Tessa had pretty mixed feelings on the Cars 2 Backpack. She felt that it was pretty good quality, with “a huge plastic image on the front and adjustable straps on the back.”

She didn’t like that it is only a single compartment – she said it’s a bit rubbish, actually, “especially when kids throw all sort of things into them.”

There are two pockets on either side of the zip which Tessa thought was helpful. “The bag is sealed with a zip and the pockets with Velcro.”

Tessa has been using the bag for three weeks now, and has put it through its paces. The good things about it are that it is dark in colour, which Tessa feels is a good thing, as it means you don’t notice the usual scuff marks and damage from regular wear and tear.

Click here for the Eurostar website to choose your dates

  • Enter the code MLVSPLON-30% for travel from St Pancras International
  • Enter the code MLVSPASI-30% for travel from Ashford International

We drove to Paris last year – or actually to a park near Paris – where we camped for a week so we could explore the City and surrounds without paying major accommodation fees. Where we were there was a train that would take you to Disneyland Paris within ten minutes, and while I was keen to go, my husband decided it was a torture we should keep for when our daughter would enjoy it more.  Probably a good idea. While it was a fantastic trip, it was a really long drive and ‘next time’ I think with a toddler we would probably just take the train!

Eurostar have a special price on their trains going to Disneyland Paris. Depending on your budget, you can either  take a Standard journey for £69 per person, or £159 return in Standard Premier, which you can book up to four months in advance.   If you’re interested you can also check the Disneyland Packages on offer at Eurostar.

So, head to Eurostar.com and see if there’s a getaway to Disney in your future.

Toy Story 3: Limited Edition Collection Woody Doll £24.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 16 July, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Toy Story 3: Limited Edition Collection Woody Doll £24.99 @ ArgosArgos have taken £15 off the price of this Toy Story 3 Limited Edition Collection Woody doll - he's £24.99 now instead of £39.99.

I'm not a HUGE Toy Story fan, I must confess.

I really enjoyed the first movie, wasn't overly impressed by the second one and I really couldn't be bothered to go and see the third one - I just don't care about Andy and his toys anymore.

Woody wasn't a favourite of mine either and neither was Buzz, if I had to name a favourite then it would have to be either Ham, Rex, Slinky Dog or Mr Potato Head.

BUT for all those Woody fans this limited edition collection Woody doll is, probably, going to be a must.

This interactive Woody the cowboy toy will play with you your child as though he were really alive; pull his string and he'll say over fifty phrases from the film (well that's enough to make me want to run for the hills!).

He has a soft ragdoll body, needs 2 AAA batteries (which are included) and he's suitable for young Woody wannabees aged four and over.

Agent Oso Pyjamas £4.49 @ The Disney Store

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 15 July, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Agent Oso Pyjamas £4.49 @ The Disney Store

The Agent Oso pyjamas from Disney are currently on sale at the Disney Store for only £4.49. They used to sell for £15 so you’re saving a lovely 70% off the original price and you have the option to pay a little bit extra to get it personalised if you wish.

Your mission to get the little ones ready for bed will be far easier to accomplish if you own the Agent Oso pyjamas. Well, that’s what Disney suggest anyway. I am not sure the person writing the blurb actually has kids because while I am sure they will get INTO their PJs, getting them to go to sleep is another matter entirely.

The top features a character transfer print of Agent Oso and Special Agent Wolfie training for their next adventure and Disney also allow you to select personalisation options when you add the item to your basket. There are only two sizes left in stock 12-18 months and 18-24 months so if you want these you better hurry!

Toys Up To 50% Off @ Disney Store

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 1 July, 2011 at 8:00 am

Toys Up To 50% Off @ Disney StoreLove ‘em or hate ‘em, Disney have something of a monopoly on so much of the market, and while even their sale items might still be overpriced at times, if you’re after something from Disney, it’s still better to pay the overpriced sale price than the overly overpriced full price.

So, what will you find in the Disney Store up to 50% off sale?

Here’s a selection:

There are 497 items in the sale, with prices starting at £1.19 (for the Wizards of Waverly Place Gel Pen Set – which is 70% off) and over 250 items are under £5. The only kicker is that unless you spend over £75, you’re looking at £4.95 delivery.

Disney Cars Duvet Set £6 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 June, 2011 at 10:00 am

Disney Cars Duvet Set £6 @ TescoTesco are selling this Disney Cars duvet set for half price, £6 instead of £12

I had to laugh, the official wordage on the Tesco website describes this Disney Cars duvet set as being made from 'an intimately blended polyester and cotton fabric for a soft and comforting night's sleep'.

Intimately blended?! Well however it's blended, it's rather nice to find something Disney that isn't hideously overpriced.

I have a bit of a thing for bedding sets and have to try really hard to not to keep buying them.

They don’t even have to be bargains like this Disney Cars one and they don’t have to be for the kids either, there’s just something about climbing in between new sheets that have never been slept on, or under!

Character duvet sets can also be a useful tool for getting tired ‘but I’m NOT tired’ toddlers and pre-schoolers in to bed; whatever it takes I say!

Home delivery with Tesco is expensive at £5, I'd avoid it at all costs and click and collect for free instead.

Daisy Duck Eau de Toilette Spray £2.79 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 19 May, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Daisy Duck Eau de Toilette Spray £2.79 @ Amazon

This is a brilliant deal for a gift for a little girl. With 72% off, this Daisy Duck Eau de Toilette Spray goes from £9.95 to just £2.79.

When I was a kid there was a range of ‘stinkies’ as my dad called them – which angered me profusely at the time – called Tinkerbell. The perfumes were all real, but the make up was  plastic. I even belonged to the Tinkerbell club  and every month they’d send up stickers and another mini fragrance, toy make-up and so on. I don’t recall if they were really good fragrances or not, but I certainly loved them.

I guess this is the more sophisticated version of the same thing, without the club and stickers.  This feminine scent is described as containing “a blend of citrus lemon, sweet spice and fresh florals” and is apparently suitable for day time or casual wear. As compared to all those important events children attend.

There’s 50ml of it, and I think the bottle is rather  cute, but there aren’t any reviews for it, so if you buy it, do come back and drop us a note so we know what you think about it!

Triple Rocker £10 @ Tesco Direct

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 30 April, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Triple Rocker £10 @ Tesco Direct

This Triple Rocker is £10 at Tesco Direct right now, £5 – a 1/3rd - off from the original £15.

I think these Triple Rockers – a favourite in soft play centres and toddler groups alike – are great. It always bugs me when we go to a park that you have to find someone around your child’s weight and age to play on the see-saw with them. Alternatively, you find yourself counterbalancing the thing, which although a good workout, isn’t much fun.

So, these are great as one child alone can sit in the centre and ride it like a rocking horse, while two children can ride opposite each other and you can sit on the side lines watching. Bonus. And it’s even suitable for three kids at a time!

These are available in yellow, blue and red and you can still claim 20 club card points. On the topic of points, Tesco has a points exchange programme at the moment where £10 will get you £20-worth of toys, so that might be worth looking at too if you have a bunch of points lying around.

Disney Cars Mega Bloks £11.99 @ BargainCrazy

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 10 March, 2011 at 8:00 am

Disney Cars Mega Bloks £11.99 @ BargainCrazyBargainCrazy are selling this tub of Disney Cars Mega Bloks for less than half price - £11.99 instead of £36.00 - they even throw in free delivery too; marvellous.

I wish Disney's Cars had been around when my oldest son was smaller, I would have had loads of fun playing with these Disney Cars Mega Bloks.

I love building things just as much as little kids do and whilst traditional Lego can take a little while to get to grips with, this tub of Disney Cars Mega Bloks is full of big chunky pieces that are the perfect size for little hands to deal with.

There are over 60 blocks in the Disney Cars Mega Bloks tub and it also comes with buildable figurines too, so your little one can recreate their favourite scenes from the Disney Cars movie.

They can make up adventures with Lightening McQueen - he was my youngest's favourite, but alas he's too 'big' for Mega Bloks now preferring instead to have me and his dad build him complicated Lego Star Wars models that take more than a couple of man hours.

The Disney Cars Mega Bloks tub is nice and sturdy and comes with a big lid so there's room to pack everything away again after an exhausting day of building.

Disney Sale On Branded Merchandise @ Asda Direct

Disney Sale On Branded Merchandise @ Asda Direct

Asda Direct has a reduced much of its Disney bedding and other merchandising in a Disney sale on its website. This includes fleece blankets, cushions, duvet covers, and curtains. Also rugs and odd items like the digital picture frame pictured above.

One really good bargain in the sale is this Disney Princess 7in Digital Photo Frame. Asda has reduced it from £50 to £33.75. It takes SD memory cards, which slot it into the photo frame. Pictures are displayed in 16:9 aspect ratio. Includes auto power on/off, clock, calendar, AC Power adaptor and comes preloaded with free Disney Wallpapers.

Standard delivery on the site is £4.95, or free if you spend more than £25 and can collect in store. Am I alone in thinking that's a big tight of Asda when other stores do free instore collection regardless of how much you spend?

I've got the Winnie the Pooh curtains up in son's room, and they're just lovely for a baby or small pre-schooler. Got to replace them now though, he thinks they too babyish. Sigh. They grow up so fast. Asda has Disney Winnie The Pooh curtains with a 54" drop reduced in the sale from £19 to £14.75. There's also Cars, Disney Princess, Disney Faeries, and Hannah Montana curtains.

Disney Bedtime Tigger Buddy £6.24 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 2 January, 2011 at 11:00 am

Disney Bedtime Tigger Buddy £6.24 @ Amazon I'm utterly smitten with this Tigger Disney Bedtime Buddy and I'm even more smitten with the price that Amazon are currently selling him for - £6.24 instead of £24.99.

I’ve loved Winnie the Pooh ever since I was a kid and Tigger was always my favourite.

I’m also a big fan of these microwaveable bed warmers – no filling up hot water bottles, no worries about them springing a leak in the middle of the night and all the other concerns that go along with them.

All of my kids have bears that go in the microwave – my daughter, at 15, still adores cuddling hers when it’s cold outside (don’t tell her I told you, she’ll go mad!) and my youngest has a sheep called ‘Smelly-Lambkins’ (don’t ask) and is much-loved.

If you’re unfamiliar with microwaveable teddies then here's how , basically they have a bag of wheat inside that heats up when you put them in the microwave for a couple of minutes.

PING! and two minutes later you have a warm and toasty bedtime friend to cuddle.  By the way, they don’t just have to be used at bedtime – I’ve often used mine for chilly late-night journeys home in the car.

Disney Read-Along Stories £9.97 @ Debenhams

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 16 December, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Disney Read-Along Stories £9.97 @ DebenhamsDebenhams have reduced the price of these Disney Read-Along Stories from £24.95, right the way down to £9.97.

You really can't go wrong with books or anything Disney if you're stuck for ideas for Christmas presents.

Combine the two and you're really on to a winner.

I loved getting books for Christmas as a kid - I used to play my new games first and then I'd settle down to read the books I'd been given.

There was just something wonderful about turning the pages of books I hadn't read before, and long after I'd got fed up with the games I'd still enjoy reading the books for the umpteenth time.

Five classic Disney stories make up this Disney Read-Along Stories book collection and they come in their own slip case, to keep them all neat and tidy in.

There is also a CD of the stories, so your child can listen to the stories whilst following along with the books.

My youngest used to like going to sleep listening to stories on his CD player - there were only so many times I was going to read the same book over and over again in one night, so CDs with stories on were a perfect solution for both of us.

Standard delivery with Debenhams is free, or you can arrange to collect your Disney Read-Along Stories from your local store for free.

Disney Pixar Toy Story Interchangeable Watch £4.99 @ Play.com

Disney Pixar Toy Story Interchangeable Watch £4.99 @ Play.com

After a cute little stocking filler for the Toy Story enthusiast in your home? This interchangeable Toy Story watch face and badge clip from Play could be just the thing, especially at only £4.99, fully 44% off the normal £8.99 price.

I must admit to being a little bit of a Disney Pixar junkie. I think they're great films and I love that the storylines offer plenty for the adult viewer while also being completely child-appropriate. I've waited for years for a child I could take to the movies, and finally my time is here. And when there aren't any new movies to watch, there's always the paraphernalia.

This Toy Story watch comes with four interchangeable faces, each of which can also be popped onto the supplied clip and pinned to clothes, bags, or anything else your little ones might wish to decorate whenever it's not in active use as a watch face.

This watch is suitable for children aged 3+ and takes one LR41 battery, which is included.

Delivery from Play is free of charge and items are usually despatched within 24 hours.

2 For 1 Disney DVDs £12.66 @ HMV

2 For 1 Disney DVDs £12.66 @ HMVHMV have a BOGOF offer on Disney DVDs meaning that for £12.66, a saving of 50%, you can have two children's movies from the extensive collection – that's double the family-friendly fun!

While I am no fan of children's TV – it's not the shows, but the advertising that drives me to the brink – I have always been one of those people who can't wait to have a child so that I could take said child to see the plethora of Disney movies that come out in time for the school holidays. I'm also one of those people who started buying up Disney DVDs long before I even had that twinkle in my eye, for the babies I'd one day have!

2 For 1 Disney DVDs £12.66 @ HMVSo, for that secret underclass of those people, this is the ideal opportunity to stock up. Of course, it's also a great time to start thinking of stocking fillers – well, not really, but when opportunity knocks...

HMV have great classic titles, such as Dumbo and Pinnochio as well as the recent releases such as Up, Cars and Toy Story 2 included in this buy one get one free offer. Whereas they would normally set you back £12.66 each, you're now getting two for the price of one, effectively making them £6.33 each.
