Playskool Mr Potato Head Spud Buds £7.50 @ Debenhams

By Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 7 September, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Playskool Mr Potato Head Spud Buds £7.50 @ DebenhamsThese adorable Mr Potato head kits will have you all giggling like loons, guaranteed. Even the pictures make me laugh. You can make a bunch of silly faces with this trio of veggie friends and you get this ace price of £7.50, down from £15.

Obviously these chaps have experienced a surge in popularity thanks to the brilliance of Toy Story 3. Hell, even I want one. So what does this set offer? You get a Mr Potato Head body and two veggie friends with parts and pieces for plenty of face changing fun.

The set comes with a potato body, corn body, carrot body, three faces, three arms with props, three regular arms, three sets of feet, two hats and a carrot top. It is fine for kids over the age of two and is rather brilliant as a stocking filler for Christmas.

Playskool Mr Potato Head Spud Buds £7.50 @ DebenhamsStop shouting at me for mentioning Christmas. I can’t help it, I love being prepared. AND I love any excuse to go Christmas shopping. I bought myself one of the Dorothy Perkins dresses as my very own “stocking filler” only it actually goes with my stockings…

Debenhams Discount Code: Free Delivery

Use this Debenhams discount code to get free delivery when shopping online. It can be used with sale items too. Standard delivery is £3.99.

Click here to get free delivery using this Debenhams discount code

  • Discount: Free delivery
  • Minimum Spend: £0.00
  • Promotion Code: SHM9
  • Expiry: 16th August 2010

With this code, you need to insert it on the shopping bag page. When you go to your bag, scroll down to underneath the items you’ve purchased, and enter it in the Promotion Code box. Click Apply. When you go to the checkout, it will have been automatically deducted from the invoice.

Personally, free delivery codes are my favourite. They make it possible to buy just single items, for instance. Which is pretty much all I’d buy from a shop like Debenhams, as their kids clothing is a little bit too expensive for what you get – in my opinion.

I’ve already got most of my son’s school clothes, but I was looking for a school coat for this coming winter. Something that was good quality but inexpensive usually means Sainsburys. But last year about half the boys in his class had the same coat! So this year I went looking for something a little bit different but definitely not more expensive.  With this code I was able to take advantage of the 20% reduction on school wear, and have the coat delivered without having to go into the shop. Result!

The Back To School Uniform Bargain Guide

By Tamsin Oxford in Features on 5 August, 2010 at 1:00 pm

The Back To School Uniform Bargain Guide

When is the right time to go shopping for their school uniform? Right now! Stores generally have their uniform sales in the middle of summer. By the end of August, only stock remnants will be left, shoved to the back of the store to make way for all the winter and Christmas party clothes. So it is time to start planning, and go shopping. In short, it’s time to go Back to School!

Clothes with logos

The Back To School Uniform Bargain GuideSome schools insist on certain items having a school logo. This is a bit controversial as it means you’re often tied to buying these from just one shop, instead of being able to look around for cheaper options. This was the experience of PlayPennies mum Sabrina. “I’ve got twin boys, starting in Year 1 in September. The school uniform has a blazer with a school logo. These cost £36 each, which means for me spending £72 just for one item of uniform!”

Boys, and indeed girls, can be messy at this age. So just in case, Sabrina wanted a spare too. “Our PTA runs the second hand uniform shop. They had a stall at the summer fair, and I got two second hand blazers. To be honest, they are obviously worn but no stains or holes. And it means that I’ve got a spare for each boy. I certainly couldn’t afford to spend £144 just on blazers.“

Second-hand doesn’t work with everything though. Mum of two, Joanna, was given a number of boys trousers from another mum with an older child. “They were in good condition but each barely lasted a month before they had ripped at the knee. Boys at primary school age  just wear them out too quickly!”

Supermarkets

The Back To School Uniform Bargain GuideAt the lower end of the market are the ranges of Back to School clothing sold by supermarkets. How happy you might be with buying from these stores varies from parent to parent. Some mums find the material in polo shirts too thin to withstand the 80 or so washes a shirt might receive. On the other hand, other mums find that regardless of the quality, their child will have dirtied the shirt beyond the repair of stain removers and whiteners well before it gets to the 80th wash!

Dad of three Gavin tends to buy trousers from Sainsburys “I used to work for a tailor, and I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the seam work or the material used by our school wear shop.”

Here’s a round up of what the top four supermarkets are offering at the moment. Before you go shopping it is worth checking here on PlayPennies or on HUKD for any voucher or promotional codes that might get you an additional discount.

Tesco

The Back To School Uniform Bargain Guide

Tesco has a Back to School Bundle offer on at the moment. With this you get a school coat, three pack of shirts and either trousers, skirt or pinafore for £12.

Sainsburys

The Back To School Uniform Bargain Guide

You’ll need to go to one of the bigger stores to get the best range of Sainsburys schoolwear. At the time of writing this, there weren’t any special offers on. Prices start from £2 however. A two pack of woven teflon coated trousers for 3 to 5 years costs £4. A two pack of white embroidered girls shirts for 3 to 5 year olds costs £5.

ASDA

Boy’s trousers and girl’s skirts start from £3 in the George range at ASDA. The store is offering free delivery on all orders over £10 if you enter the code ‘School2′ at checkout.

Woolworths

The Back To School Uniform Bargain GuideWoolies might be gone from the high street but the store has not been forgotten online. Their value Back to School uniform range starts at £3 for a pair of trousers for a five year old, and £3 for a girl’s skirt for a five year old. Delivery is £3.95 for next day, or £4.95 to specificy a day/time/not during school run. Returns are collected free from your home – make sure they’re unused, and tags are still intact.

Department Stores

Marks and Spencer  is a favourite of PlayPennies mum, Lynley, “I always bought M&S trousers for my step son, as they were the only ones to keep the knees for any length of time!” The store has free delivery on school clothes, if you use the code School10 at checkout. Their 3 for 2 offer has just ended, but keep an eye out. Last year the store ran the promotion again before school started. Boys flat fronted trousers with adjustable waist cost £3.50 for a five year old. Girls pleated skirt with adjustable waist is £3.50 for a five year old.

BHS and Debenhams are admittedly often pricey. But I’ve always found the quality to be good, and worth keeping an eye out for their sales.

And Finally

Look for Back to School bargains online! Amazon are always worth checking out, and not just for school uniforms but for all school supplies. One mum recommended eBay, which frankly I’d not thought of for school uniforms before, but she’d got a great deal on a number of really good quality of girl’s skirts and pinafores that hadn’t been worn or only been worn once by a particularly fast growing lass!

Tripp Luggage Deals @ Debenhams

By Sarah Kensington in Deals on 4 August, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Tripp Luggage Deals @ DebenhamsLuggage. There’s no getting away from it, it can be expensive but take heart because Debenhams have some great reductions on Tripp luggage at the moment.

I’m in the market for luggage!

I’ve come to the conclusion that people have a definite luggage personality – there are the plain black suitcase on wheels people (that’s me) (was £135 and is now £59), the no-wheels-thanks-wheeled-cases-are-for-wimps people (was £49.99 is now £19.99), the travel-light-can-fit-everything-into-a-case-the-size-of-a-postage-stamp people (was £12 is now £7) and the loud HELLO-YOU-CAN’T-MISS-ME luggage people (was £135 and is now £40.50)!

I’ve always been a plain black suitcase kind of gal but having waited for A G E S for my case at the baggage carousel at Heathrow recently I began to question the sense of this.  You see, my black case looks the same as EVERYONE elses black case that’s trundling round and round and round.

You know when they’ve all done one loop because someone’s bright, loud and colourful bag has just gone round again; everytime you see that stand-out-from-the-crowd bag and yours still hasn’t put in an appearance, you start to wonder if you’ve just missed it amongst all the other ones or whether it’s sunning itself on the beach somewhere having got on a different flight!

If you’re in need of some luggage then have a wander around the virtual aisles of Debenhams and see if they have something to suit your luggage personality and budget.

Peppa Pig Backpack £4.27 @ Debenhams

By Sarah Kensington in Deals on 3 August, 2010 at 9:00 am

Peppa Pig Backpack £4.27 @ DebenhamsThis Peppa Pig back pack is just PERFECT for all little girl Peppa fans going back to, or starting, school in September.

It is so pretty, I almost wish they did a bigger one!

It’s got pastel pink horizontal stripes and pocket on the front that features Peppa and George. The straps are adjustable and it has a little carry handle on the top, so your little girl can carry it if she’s not keen on having it strapped to her back – my daughter never liked that and always preferred to carry her little school back pack.

Going back to school can be daunting and, as long as your child’s school doesn’t prescribe school bags only in the school colours, with the school badge emblazened on the front for an over-inflated price, then heading back in to the classroom with a character that you love that can be very comforting.

Peppa Pig Backpack £4.27 @ DebenhamsAs grown-ups we can forget how  simple things like this often make a big difference.

Now, the published price on the Debenhams website is £4.75 but if you use these codes – PY4P and SHD1 – it’ll come down to £4.27 and you’ll get free delivery too *oink OINK!*

Peppa Pig Toddler Bed £40 @ Debenhams

By Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 21 July, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Peppa Pig Toddler Bed £40 @ DebenhamsWell, it seems that Peppa Pig fans are in for a treat this July with every other Peppa Pig branded item marked down and at discounted prices. This toddler bed has the Peppa Pig motif all over it and is just perfect for a first bed.

The fun printed head and footer boards will entrance tots that love the TV series, and the protective side panels prevent bedtime tumbles as you little ones get used to side-free sleeping. Although, if your children are anything like mine, they will have somehow shifted all the way down to the bottom of the bed, and then fallen off.

The bed is easy to assemble, is ideal for children 18 months and older and measures 59×77x145cm. It is made from aPeppa Pig Toddler Bed £40 @ Debenhams sturdy MDF construction so it should last you quite a while. I must point out, though, that the mattress is not included in the price.

Originally £50, the saving isn’t huge (especially if you arrange for home delivery) but does make it that little bit more affordable. If you want something Peppa branded that isn’t a bed, why not take a look at their deluxe Peppa Pig playhouse that’s down to £25.60.

Peppa Pig Trike with canopy £25.20 @ Debenhams

By Lynley Oram in Deals on 18 July, 2010 at 8:00 pm

Peppa Pig Trike with canopy £25.20 @ DebenhamsAt the end of our local summer fete yesterday, when all the children were walking sluggishly around completely worn out and filled with sugar, I saw the cutest sight. A small tot strapped (loosely but securely) into one of these types of trikes, fast asleep. He was leaning back with a slight smile on his face, as if to say, yes mum, this is the proper way to end a busy day. And he looked so comfortable. I’ve never felt so jealous! Debenhams have a number of items on sale at the moment. One of them is the Peppa Pig Trike with canopy for £25.20. Use code SHX8 for free delivery.

The thing is, you absolutely have to have something for that transition period. For when they’re getting out of the pushchair, but simply aren’t up to walking everywhere. And when they also lack focus. Every parent knows how hard it is to get a two year old to walk down the street without examining every plant, and suddenly wanting to turn around and walk in the opposite direction.

We got a little pedal-less bike for my son, which worked brilliantly as it was small and light enough to hook onto the back of the pushchair. For some reason he never liked trikes. Many of the other mums went for a trike though, and it worked out well for them. A character-based theme is a great way to get them onto it in the first place. His best friend at the nursery wouldn’t get off the Iggle Piggle one his parents bought, as it was his favourite show.

What I love about this trike is that it has the Peppa Pig theme, but is in colours that will suit boys and girls. Now, I’ve made this complaint before so forgive me if you’re sick of hearing it. But ALL the boys I know love Peppa Pig. Yet all the merchandising seems to be pink! When son was 2 all he wanted to take to nursery was a Peppa Pig backpack – could I find one that wasn’t pink? No! It is a small point, but an important one.

Peppa Pig Trike with canopy £25.20 @ DebenhamsThe removable sunshade is also a nice touch, especially for this hot and sunny summer we’re having.

Bluezoo Grey Cool As Mum T-Shirt £1.62 @ Debenhams

By Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 17 July, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Bluezoo Grey Cool As Mum T Shirt £1.62 @ DebenhamsOnly £1.62 for a tee? You’re kidding? Nope, Debenhams have this on sale and there are even some other items lurking in the store for the same great price. I would recommend adding extra items to your basket to justify the heavy delivery charge (shame on you Debenhams!).

This is a very cute T and is so worthy of a mention here at PlayPennies. It features popper fastenings on the shoulders (verrry handy for when you get those enormous poos that require complete baby overhaul), and is both machine washable and tumble dryer safe.

The tee is made from 100% cotten and you can match it with a Yum as Mum tee that’s down to the same low price. You may have to pay slightly more for the bigger sizes though, so be warned.

BlueZoo Grey ‘Cool As Mum’ t-shirt £1.62 @ Debenhams

By Lynley Oram in Deals on 16 July, 2010 at 8:00 pm

BlueZoo Grey Cool As Mum t shirt £1.62 @ DebenhamsCheap as chips. Although a lot of things could be described like that on the PlayPennies site, this is actually the first time I’ve said so. And that’s because it really is quite true. This t-shirt is an absolute, adorable, bargain. Debenhams have reduced down the BlueZoo Grey As Cool as Mum t-shirt to £1.62.

Delivery costs a big fat zero, if you use code SHX8 or SHD1. What I love about this t-shirt is that the BlueZoo stuff (which is a Debenham’s own brand of clothing) is really well made. This item appears to be made of a good quality material – not thin and it won’t go sideways in the wash. You know, where the poorer quality t-shirt material refuses to line up at the seams when you iron it, making it impossible to fold properly to put away.

But best of all is the motif. A nice, big, very lickable ice lolly and the slogan ‘As Cool As Mum’. This really tickles me. And while this t-shirt is unisex, it will definitely have a lot more appeal to the mums of boys. Because we just don’t get to have as much fun dressing our babies as the mums of daughters do! I remember that by the time my son was a year old, I was so heartily sick of navy blue, chocolate brown and sober black. Where were the bright colours? The fun details? It isn’t fair!

The BlueZoo Cool As Mum t-shirt is 100 percent cotton, machine washable and it can be tumble dried. There are popper fastenings to the shoulder, BlueZoo Grey Cool As Mum t shirt £1.62 @ Debenhamswhich makes it easier to get on and off over baby’s head. It is available in sizes 0-3 months, and 3-6 months.

There is only one thing that bugs me. When DID they start charging £1.60 for a single portion of chips? Wasn’t it just five minutes ago you could get a double portion for 60p?

3rd & Bird Swing Around Playset £7.65 @ Debenhams

By Lynley Oram in Deals on 15 July, 2010 at 8:00 pm

3rd & Bird Swing Around Playset £7.65 @ Debenhams3rd & Bird Swing Around Playset £7.65 @ DebenhamsBoth my son, and my step son when he was a pre-schooler, loved recreating their favourite TV shows and movies. They both have such a capacity for creating and living in a totally imaginary world that it has always astounded me. If you’ve a child like that in your life then you know how much they get out of toys like the 3rd and Bird Swing Around Playset. Debenhams have reduced this one down from £17 to £7.65. Delivery is £3.99.

At five my son is a little old for 3rd & Bird, although it is aimed at 2 to 6 year olds. Which is a shame as it is a lovely show. He still likes to watch CBeebies now and again, so I have seen the odd episode. Being from New Zealand, my favourite character is of course Mrs Billingsly. She is the grandmotherly Kiwi, who wears pearls and a straw hat.

The idea behind the show is to teach children about community. As the show’s creator Josh Selig describes it, 3rd & Bird is about  “ a colourful and quirky community of birds who learn about life, friendship and responsibility in the branches of their beautiful tree“.

3rd & Bird Swing Around Playset £7.65 @ DebenhamsThe playset comes with 2 inch high Muffin, Rudy and Samuel characters, which are made of soft flocked material. Characters can be placed on their swings and the lamp post turned on for spinning and swinging actions.
