Bakewell Tart Chocolate Block Review

Bakewell Tart Chocolate Block Review

When I first discovered the Thorntons British Classics range of chocolates I really wasn’t sure about the idea. Lemon Meringue chocolate? Yuck. Then I had some and it was amazing and I had to, literally, eat my words. So I wasn’t that averse to trying out the Bakewell Tart version that was given to me the other day.

These dark and tasty looking squares of chocolate look very innocent wrapped in their £1.89 box but if you’re on a diet, contemplating a diet, or ever plan to have a diet One Day, don’t open this box. If you do, you will forever dream of this utterly divine chocolate and all diets shall become immeasurably harder. It took us all by surprise.

Yes, there were three of us handed a plate of the Thorntons Bakewell Tart Chocolate and all three of us immediately took some more, and then a bit more, and then one of us distracted the Thorntons staff while the others took even more. It is that tasty. What makes this particular British Classics flavour so good is that it tastes exactly like Bakewell Tart.

Unlike some flavoured chocolates or foods that hint at the flavour of origin, this particular chocolate tastes spot on. Perfect Bakewell Tart taste with a chocolate texture. It’s odd, tasty and divine. And the price is rather awesome too, let’s face it. You get 80g for a great price and if you amble there now, at the time of writing, they have a three for £5 offer running so you save even more.

Honestly, of all the British Classics flavours from Thorntons, the Bakewell Tart is my favourite, although I wouldn’t say no to the Eton Mess.

Magic Choc Flexible Chocolate 120g Starter Box £3.49 @ Play.com

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 6 June, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Magic Choc Flexible Chocolate 120g Starter Box £3.49 @ Play.comPlay.com have Magic Choc Flexible Chocolate starter boxes on sale for £3.49 instead of £4.99, making for a £1.50 saving.

Honestly, as if there was anything better in this world than Belgian Chocolate, they now have magic Belgian Chocolate? It seems almost too much temptation to resist. I’ve never heard of this before but it does seem worth a try.

Well, that depends on which reviews you believe. Some absolutely love it and rave on about it’s fantastic mouldability and brilliant taste, while others just want to send it back and moan about it being crumbly and impossible to shape. I guess it’s going to be luck of the draw what you get.

The set comes with antibacterial wipes so you can clean your hands and surfaces before you start, but then you mould and shape it with your hands before tucking in. Reviewers have used these for party activities, goody bags, stocking fillers and more.

The overall theme for those it worked for was that it kept the kids busy for hours though – I’m assuming they mean the recommended over 4’s as nothing keeps my two year old busy for hours, but I’m pretty sure it’ll keep me occupied!

Thorntons Valentine's Day Gifts Review

by Lynley Oram in Reviews on 25 January, 2012 at 1:00 pm

Thorntons Valentine's Day Gifts ReviewMy view is that if you're going to say anything on Valentine's Day say it with chocolates. Well that might just be me, but I can't be the only person who loves nothing more than cuddling up with a chocolatey treat?

Personally I think that all chocolates are pretty much right for Valentine's Day, you don't actually need to make a special range with that as the theme. Especially if you're a chocoletier named Thorntons. But no. It would seem that not satisfied with making some of the most delicious chocolate treats known to mankind, they also have to make some stuff specially for this one particular day of the year.

I received three items from the range for review, and I have to say I gave them a thorough testing! What I found interesting is that these are not expensive sweets or chocolates. In fact, they were all priced at less than a fiver. A nice way perhaps to add that little bit extra to your day when you're on a budget.

Tatty Teddy Luxury Chocolate Collection Review

by Sarah Macdonald in Reviews on 10 February, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Tatty Teddy Luxury Chocolate Collection ReviewIt's Valentine's Day soon and that, invariably, means CHOCOLATES!

There's nothing quite like being given a big kiss, then an even bigger hug followed by a box of chocolates from the person you love most in the whole world.

Well actually there is - it's being given a box of these lovely Tatty Teddy Luxury Chocolates; there's a blue version for boys and a pink version for us girls, the contents of both is exactly the same.

I've been paying attention to all the different boxes of chocolates on sale in Tesco (as that's where I tend to shop) and there are all the usual suspects to choose from - Milk Tray, Thorntons, Lindt et al.

They're all undeniably tasty, I know because I've tried them, but they've got one important ingredient missing - ROMANCE.

My heart melted the moment I saw this Tatty Teddy Luxury Chocolate Collection box; the little black-eyed, blue-nosed teddy peeking through a clutched bunch of roses is impossible not to love; there really is no comparison between this one and the others.

Inside, the obligatory black tissue paper is stuck together with a blue 'Me To You' sticker and the little booklet that tells which each flavour is has a smaller version of the box picture printed on the front, just in case you missed how cute it was the first time.

There are 15 chocolates in a box; each box costs £4.99 and is available from selected Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons stores along with other quality independent shops.

There are nine different flavours: Almond & Marzipan, Chewy Toffee, Hazelnut Truffle, Strawberry Parfait, Golden Caramel (this one has the 'Me To You' logo on the top), Orange Cream, Chocolate Truffle, Coffee Mousse and Nougat.

There are two of most flavours and the Hazelnut and Chocolate Truffles are coated with white chocolate.

Each chocolate is wonderful (this was a tough review, I mean really you have no idea what a hardship it was to do), there is a nice mix of dark, white and milk chocolates and all the usual favourite centres. Not only that, and it pains me to say it, yes, I can even recommend the Coffee Mousse flavour and I usually give the coffee ones away to someone else!

No you won't find a double layer in this Tatty Teddy Luxury Chocolate Collection and, yes, there are only 15 chocolates but there's something about that, combined with the complete and utter CUTENESS of the box, which is what makes it feel so special.

The chocolates are long gone from the Tatty Teddy Luxury Chocolate Collection that I was sent but I still have the box, I just can't bring myself to throw it away!

I hope you're lucky enough to get a box of your own for Valentine's Day.

The Chocolate Moon Review

by Sarah Macdonald in Reviews on 9 February, 2011 at 1:00 pm

The Chocolate Moon Review'The Chocolate Moon' - the first thing that sprang to our minds was a huge chooclate moon hanging heavy in the sky, sooo tempting and yummy looking but out of reach.

Luckily we're talking about  a lovely mail-order chocolate company whose chocolates treats are most definitely within reach.

Now usually we have things sent to us and we then send them on to one of our parent testers; this time, however, we wanted to know how the whole process worked for our tester from browsing the website, to ordering through to delivery and, of course, then the eating.

We picked on PlayPennies mum Sadie and gave her the 'terrible' task of reviewing some chocolates from The Chocolate Moon

"It was a tough decision to make. "Hi it's PlayPennies here, we were wondering if you'd like to order and review some chocolates for us?" Oh hang on....erm....let me think about that for a moment...review some chocolates? YES PLEASE!"

The Chocolate Moon ReviewThe only thing we had to send Sadie was the www.thechocolatemoon.co.uk web address and the rest was down to her.

"From the moment the page opened I knew I was in for something  a little more special than a slab of Fruit and Nut," Sadie revealed, "the design, the colours, the images! I was ready to dive in and indulge my inner-chocolatier."

Sadie went on to tell us that she thought the ordering process was going to take a few minutes, when in actual fact it took her two DAYS!

"The length of time it took me to order from The Chocolate Moon was purely down to the fact that I couldn't make up my mind which chocolates to choose!" she confessed, "There are so many amazing flavours and variations that just choosing one thing was TOUGH!"

In the end Sadie took the plunge, stepped away from the safe and traditional and decided to try something she'd never tasted before; Chilli Truffles.

"They'd called to me right from the start. They're different, they sound daring and I thought 'what the heck!' I'm going to give them a bash!" Sadie explained.

The ordering process was quick, simple and plain-sailing. Just choose your chocolates, add them to the basket, fill in your details and pay; that's it.

"I got an email confirming my order had been recieved," Sadie told us, "and another one that same day, telling me my order had been dispatched. The Chilli Chocolate Truffles arrived the very next day, the service really was very quick."

The Chocolate Moon Review"The chilli chooclate truffles were packaged in a clear cellophane bag, tied with gift ribbon and had a Chocolate Moon gift tag attached to it; the bag of truffles came inside a tube-shaped box (can you have a tube-shaped box?! I can't think of a better way to describe it, sorry)."

We really liked the look of the packaging when we had a quick peek at The Chocolate Moon website too, it makes a really nice change from the standard square box chocolates usually come in.

"Then it was time; time to discover whether I'd ordered chocolates that I'd love or chocolates that I'd take on bite of, spit out and then regret not ordering the Champagne Truffles instead."

When Sadie told us she'd ordered Chilli Chocolate Truffles we waited with bated breath for her verdict.

I'd heard all about chilli chocolates before and asked a few friends and acquaintances what they thought about chilli chocolate - was it right....or wrong?  The split between the two answers was about 50/50; which camp would Sadie fall into?

"OH. MY GOODNESS! If you've never tried chilli chocolate then you HAVE to try these Chilli Chocolate Truffles! They are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!" was Sadie's verdict.

We think she liked them!

The Chocolate Moon Review"The chocolate is dark, there are little red, yellow and orange chilli flakes on top of each truffle and the smell that rushes out of the bag when you open it is just fabulous.

They're firm to bite, but not too firm. To start with they don't taste much like chilli at all but after a few seconds the heat kicks in and THEN you know you're eating chilli chocolates!"

Sadie asked us to make sure we told you that the chilli heat wasn't unpleasantly hot, just enough to let you know it was there and make you think 'wow!'

The Chilli Truffles cost £7.25 for 150g which worked out to be 11 in number; in fact, most of the prices for all the chocolates available from The Chocolate Moon are £7.25, there are a couple of things for £7.95 and £5.95.

Delivery is very fast even though it's standard first class and will cost you £2.95 for orders under 600g or £3.95 for orders over.  You can also choose WHEN you'd like your order delivered by taking advantage of their scheduled delivery service...

You can now schedule the delivery of your chocolate gifts on a date to fit the occasion. When you order gifts from The Chocolate Moon, you can either have them delivered as soon as possible, or select a date within the next 3 months on which to deliver.

This way, you can take the strain out of remembering that special day - just leave the timing to us - we'll dispatch the gifts 2 days before your chosen date to ensure they arrive just in time.

And finally...

The Chocolate Moon ReviewSadie was over the moon with her entire The Chocolate Moon experience.

"The Chocolate Moon were an absolute delight to deal with and the chocolates were fabulous; I'll definitely be going back to them again and again and again," Sadie concludes.

"I know these aren't the cheapest chocolates in the world but you get what you pay for;  based on their service and the quality of the chocolates you're getting an absolute bargain."

So there you have it -  if you want hassle and stress-free service along with chocolates to die for, bookmark The Chocolate Moon and pay them a visit for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays, 'Just Because' days and anytime you want to spoil yourself days.

I think I can feel a 'spoil myself' day coming on...

Freebie: Milka Chocolate

by Emma Kelly in Freebies on 10 April, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Freebie: Milka Chocolate

The Milka chocolate company is giving out printable vouchers for a free 100g bar of chocolate! Who can refuse free chocolate!

Click "start the journey" in the middle of the screen. You have to play the game in order to get a free voucher for Milka chocolate.

In the HUKD thread where this offer was recently mentioned (thanks paw2304), some people reported issues in claiming their voucher when trying to use various browsers. I gave it a try in Firefox and it said this: "At the moment it is not possible to print a coupon using Firefox 3.6 on Windows." I then tried to email the coupon to myself, and it didn't seem to work!

I then gave it a try in internet explorer, and it was almost glitch free. I actually have a pdf writer set as my default printer, so I had to change that over to a regular printer before the site would let me print my coupon.

So if you want to print the coupon out immediately, I reckon internet explorer would be your safest bet. Persevere, and the free chocolate can be yours!

Lindt Lindor Chocolate Egg £3.75 @Debenhams

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Deals on 9 April, 2010 at 4:00 pm

Is it wrong to be thinking about chocolate already, so soon after Easter? ILindt Lindor Chocolate Egg £3.75 @Debenhams just can't help myself when Debenhams put temptation in my way in the shape of this delicious Lindt Lindor chocolate egg, down from a hefty £7.50 to a mouth-watering £3.75.

There are loads of other yummy chocolate eggy treats at Debenhams right now, but I'll leave you to seek them out - that's the point of an egg hunt, after all.

Lindt Lindor Chocolate Egg £3.75 @DebenhamsThis Lindt Lindor egg is a bit special though - if you've never tried one of these and are a chocolate fan you really should indulge yourself. The mini versions are one of my guilty pleasures and I'm not sure how I'll cope when they discontinue them until next Easter.

Sigh. I can practically smell the divine chocolate naughtiness through my screen.

With thanks to cheerleader at HUKD.
