Mothercare Hertford Cot Bed £50 @ Mothercare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 16 October, 2012 at 10:00 am

Mothercare Hertford Cot Bed £50 @ MothercareI love the look of this Hertford cot bed from Mothercare, and if you're in the market for a cot bed then I'd bite their arm and grab one of them for £50, rather than £99.99.  In fact, even at their full retail price I'd still bite their arm off!

The reason I suggest limb dismemberment of Mothercare, in relation to this deal, is simple: cot beds can be EXPENSIVE!  All of my children had cot beds and with for my youngest's, I spent WEEKS stalking cot bed sellers on eBay, in a state of high alert, waiting to POUNCE the moment it looked as though I could get one for around the £80/£90 mark - that was a bargain, which makes £50 for this one seem like stealing!

For my money, the Hertford cot bed is fab': it's elegant, it's understated, it will fit with any decor and it's nice and simple.

It suitable from birth and will 'fit' your child until they're around five years old; it has three different mattress height positions, converts into a junior bed when they're ready to leave their cot behind and has a plastic teething cover on the horizontal rails - this is GOOD; my eldest son used to scrape his teeth on the cot rails, it sets my teeth on edge just thinking about that again.

Cot bed mattresses are sold separately (they always are) so you can choose the mattress you want, rather than being dictated to by the manufacturer - at least that's the official line, I think it could also be just another way to fleece even more money out of new parents (ohhhh, so cynical!).

You can collect your Hertford cot bed in-store or you can have it delivered to your home, either of those options are freeeee; hurrah!

Handy Manny Duvet Set £10 @ The Toy Shop

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 April, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Handy Manny Duvet Set £10 @ The Toy ShopIf you have a Handy Manny fan in your family then you might want to take a look at this Handy Manny duvet set that's on sale with The Toy Shop - the rrp is £15, they're selling them for £10 at the moment.

Handy Manny came a little too late onto the children's character market for me to know much about him, but I'm guessing he's the indoor handyman version of Bob the Builder.

What I do know is that kids love character bedding and this can be a very valuable weapon in your defence against 'I don't want to go to bed yet!' 'discussions.  It's amazing how exciting bedtime can become when you're diving under your new duvet that has your favourite character on it!

The Handy Manny duvet set is made from 100% polyester which makes it extremely easy to wash, quick to dry and super quick to iron (if you iron your bedding, like I do).

If you have a Toy Shop local to you, or someone you know, then your Handy Manny duvet set can be collected in-store for free, otherwise you'll need to add on an additional £2.95 for delivery.

Compact Wooden Cot £37.90 @ Kiddicare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 25 April, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Compact Wooden Cot £37.90 @ KiddicareYou can pick up a compact wooden cot from Kiddicare for £37.90 (using checkout code MORRISONS) at the moment, rather than its recommended retail price of £129.99; it's ideal for smaller nurseries or as a secondary cot that lives at a grandparent's house.

Now I'm a fan of big cot beds, but they're quite big and I've always been lucky enough to have the space for them; where space is more of a challenge a compact cot is just what you need.

Suitable from birth up to around 18 months, it's made from pine and has a two base positions; both sides and ends are slatted too so you can see in and your baby can see out from all angles.

If you buy this version then you'll need to purchase a mattress that measures 90 x 54cm OR you can buy a compact cot that comes complete with mattress and Funky Friends cot quilt and bumper set for £68.40 (again, using checkout code MORRISONS).

Delivery is free, because you've spent over £29.99, and you can even chose a delivery time slot too.  Don't forget to add the MORRISONS discount code at the checkout!

To use this code, go to the Shopping Basket page and enter it in the Promotional Code box. I tested it out initially with the half price peg rail (you get the rail for half price if you buy any other item on the site). However, even where my total after the peg rail was reduced in price came to more than £50, the code still wouldn't work. I can assume then that you can't use this code with any other offers or discounts.

I have bought a few items from here over the years. They do really lovely, nicely designed and built furnishings for children's rooms as well as accessories. The site also sells toys and games.

One of my favourites is this Sling Bookcase. It costs £58, but looks simply beautiful. And is practical as well, perfect for displaying all the large books they get at the pre-school age. I didn't have one, but my best mate did. These books don't sit particularly well on an ordinary book case - you find that the kids pull them all out in order to just find one. Here they sit flat so they can just slide them along to see one underneath, and the bookcase sits flush against the wall.

There are lots of other stylish storage solutions on the site, and I had better warn you, it is easy to spend hours browsing!

Tu Tractor Cushion And Fleece £9 @ Sainsbury's

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 11 February, 2012 at 9:00 am

Tu Tractor Cushion And Fleece £9 @ Sainsbury'sIf you pop over to Sainsbury's you can pick up a Tu Tractor cushion for £5 (instead of £10) and a Tu Tractor applique fleece throw for £4 (instead of £8).

My mum is a HUGE fan of Sainsbury's and always telling me to switch my allegiance to them, from Tesco - I actually went to Sainsbury's the other day AND took and sent pictures to her to prove it, that should keep her 'quiet' for a little while...maybe.

For all my Tesco loyalty, I must confess that this Tu Tractor cushion and Tu Tractor fleece blanket are rather cute and will be loved by any youngster with a 'thing' for farm machinery.

If my youngest was still in his tractor phase then they would have been ideal for him; we used to live in a little farming village and a farmer let him sit in his tractor one day, you wouldn't believe the tears and wailing that followed having to come down from the cab so the farmer could get on with some work!

You can arrange to have your Tu Tractor cushion and/or Tu Tractor fleece throw delivered to your home for the 'bargain' price of £3.95 OR, you can arrange to collect them in-store for free.

Cow Comfort Night Light £2.50 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 October, 2011 at 10:00 am

Cow Comfort Night Light £2.50 @ TescoYou might need to be quick to snap up one of these comforting Cow Night Lights - it's very cute indeed and the frog version has already gone out of stock.

Being scared or anxious of the dark is miserable.

I was scared of the dark when I was a child and I dreaded my mum coming to bed and turning the landing light off, plunging the rest of the house into darkness.

I was allowed to keep my bedroom light on, very dim, but everywhere else was dark; I wouldn't be able to see what might be lurking in it and that terrified me.

I didn't want/need lighting on a scale of the Blackpool illuminations, but a little bit of a glow somewhere would have been nice; just so there wasn't total darkness.

One of these cow night lights might have made me less anxious.

It gives off a soft green glow and has such a warm, friendly face that I'm finding myself very drawn to, even as a grown up!

This very cute cow comfort night light takes three AA batteries, making him completely portable and easy for your child to pack in their overnight bag for reassurance during sleepovers.

The original price for this cow night light was £10, he's now £2.50 whilst stocks last.

Biodegradable Cradle

by Sarah Macdonald in Misc on 2 October, 2011 at 10:00 am

Biodegradable CradleI come across some weird and wonderful things when I'm scouting around the internet looking for something different to tell you about, but this cradle from Jall & Tofta has to win a prize for making that 'extra leap'.

For environment conscious new parents, the 'Cradle' is made from a material that is completely biodegradable.

When your little one has outgrown their Cradle, and needs a bigger bed, you simply return it to the environment by putting it in the garden to decompose.

However, the designers of the 'Cradle' clearly thought that was just a little boring and decided to brighten things up a bit.

The sides of the Cradle have been cased with seed pressed panels which will burst into a bed of flowers when it's watered well!

And if those flowers are self-seeding perennials, rather than just annuals, then the bed of flowers your baby once slept in will keep coming back year after year.

What a quirky and wonderful idea.

So quirky, in fact, that I can't find a price for it anywhere!  If you stumble across a selling price for this Jall & Tofta Cradle then please do let us know.

Ben 10 Or In The Night Garden Fabric Wardrobe £6.50 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 September, 2011 at 9:00 am

Ben 10 Or In The Night Garden Fabric Wardrobe £6.50 @ TescoIf you need some cheap wardrobe space for your child(ren) then you could do worse than take a look at these fabric wardrobes currently for sale at Tesco.

When my children were younger, their clothes seemed to multiply faster than anything known to man!

I’m not quite sure how this happened, but I always seemed to be running out of storage space for all their outfits and whilst I wanted lots of extra hanging space, I didn't want to spend lots of money on it.

I don't recall these fabric wardrobes being around when the Teenagers were young enough to have appreciated them, but they would have been absolutely ideal.

There's a Ben 10 fabric wardrobe for fans of the young alien hunter, or an In the Night Garden version for the less extra-terrestrial kids.

Each one is just £6.50, so if your child has more clothes than Suri Cruise then you can easily afford to pick up two.

Each one has two full-width hanging rails and three shelves stacked down one side.

Home delivery is £5 with Tesco, so if you can arrange to collect for free in-store then do.

Toddler Bed In A Bag Sets £14.95 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 5 September, 2011 at 11:00 am

Toddler Bed In A Bag Sets £14.95 @ TescoTesco have a few toddler 'Bed in a Bag' sets up for grabs with 25% off - they're £14.95 at the moment, instead of £19.95.

I have a bit of a thing for bedding sets and regularly find myself COMPELLED to buy them!

They don’t even have to be bargains like these toddler Bed in a Bag sets OR for kids either, there’s just something about climbing in between new sheets that have never been slept on, or under!

Character duvet sets can also be a useful tool for getting tired ‘but I’m NOT tired’ toddlers and pre-schoolers in to bed; whatever it takes I say!

These sets really are a bargain; each Bed in a Bag contains:

  • A 3.5 tog duvet
  • A character duvet cover
  • A pillow and
  • A character pillowcase

If you don't mind paying over the odds for Tesco home delivery then go ahead and have your toddler Bed in a Bag sent to your home - it'll cost you £5 - but if you'd rather spend that £5 on something else then arrange to collect in-store for free.

Star Wars Clone Wars Duvet Set £8.58 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 July, 2011 at 9:00 am

Star Wars Clone Wars Duvet Set £8.58 @ TescoTesco are selling this Star Wars Clone Wars duvet set for £8.58 instead of £13.00.

If you have a rabid little Star Wars fan like I do, then this Star Wars Clone Wars duvet set will make a lovely little 'just because' present or an extra something for a birthday, OR not for any present giving purposes - maybe they need a new duvet set!

Whatever the reason would be for buying one, they'll love it.

Character bedding is also a useful tool in the 'I don't want to go to bed yet, I'm not TIRED!' battles; any 'weapon' that encourages your young Jedi to leap into bed is a good thing.

The duvet cover measures 200cm x 150cm and is made from polyester; it'll be nice and quick to dry then and although it can be tumbledried you probably won't need to, unless it's throwing it down with rain of course.

You could, if you wanted to make this a NOT bargain, arrange for Tesco to deliver this Star Wars Clone Wars duvet set to your front door for an extra £5 OR, you could click and buy and go and pick it up yourself for free.

Winnie The Pooh Junior Bedding Bundle £9.99 @ Play

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 29 June, 2011 at 9:00 am

Winnie The Pooh Junior Bedding Bundle £9.99 @ PlayPlay are selling this cute Winnie the Pooh junior bedding bundle for just £9.99, instead of £19.99.

It's always a good idea to take advantage whenever anything Disney is discounted; I don't mind paying for whatever something's worth, but I do resent feeling ripped off which is how it can feel with lots of things Disney.

However, £9.99 for a Disney Winnie the Pooh junior bedding bundle is just a bargain as far as I'm concerned.

his 4 piece set includes a junior duvet and pillow as well as matching duvet cover and pillowcase; marvellous.

I can't find a tog rating for the duvet anywhere but I can't imagine it's going to be a heavy winter one, so it's going to be perfect for the warmer summer months and in the autumn/winter you can simply layer blankets over the top.

The duvet, duvet cover and pillow case are machine washable up to 40C and can all be tumble dried if necessary.

Delivery with Play is free so £9.99 is the total price you'll you have to pay for this Winnie the Pooh junior bedding bundle.

20% Off Everything When You Spend £50 @ The Great Little Trading Company

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 24 June, 2011 at 10:00 am

20% Off Everything When You Spend £50 @ The Great Little Trading CompanyThe Great Little Trading Company has relaunched. It is now doing free delivery, and returns. Also, for Friday only, it is 20% off everything when you spend £50 or more. On Saturday this drops to 18%, and then 15% on Sunday and Monday.

I have bought a few items from here over the years. They do really lovely, nicely designed and built furnishings for children's rooms as well as accessories. The site also sells toys and games.

One of my favourites is this Sling Bookcase. It costs £55, but looks simply beautiful. And is practical as well, perfect for displaying all the large books they get at the pre-school age. Here they sit flat so they can just slide them along to see one underneath, and the bookcase sits flush against the wall.

I also really like the play and store table that they sell on the site. I never brought it as I thought that at £195 it was a bit expensive. If I'd known how much children love to spread their toys out on a table, and how they don't really grow out of that, I'd have invested in something more substantial than the little table we got from Ikea. Also, from the parent's perspective, it means they can leave all their creations and games out ready to pick up later, but you can still clean the floor!

There are lots of other stylish storage solutions on the site, and I had better warn you, it is easy to spend hours browsing!

Peppa Pig Toddler Bed £63.50 @ Tesco Direct

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 7 February, 2011 at 11:00 am

Peppa Pig Toddler Bed £63.50 @ Tesco DirectTesco Direct are selling this Peppa Pig Toddler Bed for £63.50 instead of £150 - not quite half-price, but close enough to make it a great deal I think.

I was (and still am) a bit of a grouch when it comes to character bedroom furniture; all of my children went straight from their cot to a normal bed but I'm pretty sure that, given the chance, they'd have LOVED a bed that featured their favourite character.

I don’t know any self-respecting little Peppa Pig fan who wouldn’t love to leap into a Peppa Pig Toddler Bed, which could come in very handy when they've decided that sleep is for wimps and they're NOT. TIRED!

You're going to have to put your DIY hat on if you buy this Peppa Pig Toddler Bed as it's self-assembly.  The headboard and  footboard are printed with fun Peppa Pig scenes and there are two underbed storage drawers too.

It comes with everything you need to put it together but it does NOT come with a mattress; the mattress size you'll need for your Peppa Pig Toddler Bed is: 70 x 140cm

The reviews are great and someone will need to be in to sign for it on delivery.

Peppa Pig George Ready Bed £21.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 January, 2011 at 11:00 am

Peppa Pig George Ready Bed £21.99 @ ArgosReady beds are a rather genius invention but can be a bit costly. Argos have reduced this Peppa Pig George Ready Bed by one third, bringing the price down from £32.99 to £21.99.

If there is a boy toddler in your family then some sort of quick sleeping solution is going to be necessary at some point or another.

If you’re a grandparent with limited space then you’ll want a bed that can appear from nowhere as if by magic, and disappear again when your grandson has gone back home again.

If your son has little friends over to stay, then they’re going to need somewhere to sleep and it isn’t always practical, OR possible, to have a complete permanent bed on stand-by all of the time.

Sleeping head-to-foot is never fun either, especially if you have a friend who fidgets!

So all hail the ready bed! It blows up and it is completely ready when you need it and packs away into a tiny size when you don’t.

There is an intergral head board (no pillow though, so you'll need one of those), the cover is machine washable and the sides are raised to prevent little ones from rolling over the edge.

The Peppa Pig George Ready Bed also comes with a carry case and a foot pump to blow it up with.

Happy toddler sleepovers!
