Celebaby: From Keeping It Real to Unreal!

by Sarah Macdonald in Celebaby on 11 February, 2010 at 12:00 pm

In this edition of Celebaby, Jill Scott clearly has her feet firmly on the ground and keeps it real and is the Brangelina Adoption Agency Inc. back in action and on the prowl again?

Jill Scott Tells It Like It Is

Celebaby: From Keeping It Real to Unreal! Just when I thought I couldn't like Jill Scott of No.1 Ladies Detective Agency fame - not to mention American soul and R&B singer AND poet (I reckon she could solve world peace too in her spare time) -  any more than I do already, she goes public with this frank confession on first-time motherhood,

“I’m going to keep it real gully with you, the first two months I wanted to give him back.  I expected someone to come and save me because after you have the baby, nobody cares about you anymore, nobody cares if you sleep, nobody cares if you eat. It’s just you and this all-consuming thingy!”

And she's right!  First-time motherhood is one HUGE culture shock unless you are a born mother-earth type which, let's face it, most of us are not; whilst you are struggling to remember what your name is and where you come from, everyone else looks so composed, calm and capable and it can leave you feeling inadequate, demoralised and downright desperate.

Give that woman a standing ovation for 'keeping it real' and telling it like it is!  By the way, Jill doesn't want to give her son, Jet, back anymore - it all worked out ok in the end, hurrah!

From keeping it real to UNREAL!

I know that celebs do a lot of excellent work for charity and we love them for it, but this whole 'adopt a poor and needy child from Africa, Mozambique, Timbuktu, the far reaches of the outer galaxy (you know they would if they could!) is really beginning to leave an unpleasant taste in the mouth.

Angelina Jolie spent time in Port-au-Prince with her Unicef Amabassadors hat on this week and the Brangelina Adoption Agency Inc. are now reportedly in the market for another victim, sorry, I mean child to add to their collection, SORRY! I mean 'family'.

Celebaby: From Keeping It Real to Unreal! This time it could be a 'lucky' earthquake orphan from Haiti who gets to be hand-plucked from the chaos of their home country and flung into the chaos of the Brad-Ang (and let's not forget Jen in all this) media storm.

To their credit brand 'Brange', supposedly earning a mere $55 million last year, have given $1 million to the Doctors without Borders charity but I have to wonder, why not help MORE children this way and focus on the six children they already have, rather than choosing another one?  If you really have to have a new family addition...get a puppy.  Actually, no, don't do that either.

Billie Piper and Melanie C On Celeb Baby-Making: TMI

Billie Piper and Melanie C On Celeb Baby-Making: TMIWoaaah, what's with all these celeb mums spilling the beans about the precise details of their family planning?

First Melanie Chisholm, of Spice Girls fame splurged to the Telegraph, telling them how she and partner Thomas Starr made time for making babies;

'I'm madly organised," Chisholm says. "We sat down and I said we have to fit the baby thing into our schedules. Tom laughed and said it doesn't work like that, you know. But, in fact, we were lucky. I got pregnant right away.'

Ew. I mean congratulations on the easy creation of Baby Scarlett and all that but really, do you have to create these mental images in newspapers which most of us happen to be reading while we're scoffing lunch? Put me right off my Cup-a-soup, that did.

Billie Piper is at it, too, telling all in an interview with Marie Claire. Asked about the timing of baby Winston's arrival in her life, she said;

"Well, you do make an active decision that you're not going to use condoms or whatever. Then there's that 'I am so in love, I just want to have your baby'. It's such a hot thing, it's so gorgeous. 'We fell in love, I want you to impregnate me' - I don't know what's not hot about that. And also, making a child in the throes of love instead of 'Oh, I suppose we should knock one out'. We were in our house in the country and we'd just got back from our honeymoon. It was literally jet-lag sex."

Ladies, puh-lease. We know you're thrilled with your new-mummy status and adorable off-spring, and so you should be, but there are some things which only Mummy and Daddy really need to know about.

Festive Family Fun

Festive Family Fun

Ah, there's nothing like the Christmas holidays for bringing out the festive family spirit.

Check out Brad Pitt hanging with his boys. According to newspaper reports, Brad took Maddox and Pax Jolie-Pitt out for dinner with his younger brother in New York City this week. So I guess the Jolie-Pitt ladies (and Knox) were having a girls' night in.

Festive Family FunAnd closer to home, ex-Footballers Wives star Gary Lucy took to the ice with his girlfriend Natasha Gray and their daughter India. Gary is all set to appear in the forthcoming series of ITV's Dancing on Ice so it looks as though he was getting in some practice.

Now, predictions please, for the first celeb baby announcements of 2010? My money's on a brother or sister for Suri Cruise this year. I'm not so sure about the rumours circulating that Brad and Anglina are planning to add to their brood but I also reckon Jamie Oliver and wife Jools might put another bun in the oven before the year is out. You heard it all here first...

Sara Cox, Zoe Ball, Jennifer Garner And Halle Berry's Little Lady, Nahla...

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Celebaby on 15 December, 2009 at 11:00 am

Sara Cox, Zoe Ball, Jennifer Garner And Halle Berry's Little Lady, Nahla...Check out Coxy looking Foxy. Not bad for for a 30-something bird expecting her third babe. Kudos to the BBC Radio 1 DJ and former ladette for managing to combine pregnant style with practicality on a rainy winter day in London (loving those wellies).

Sara Cox's best mate Zoe Ball is also expecting a baby in 2010. With a son named Woody I wonder if they'll opt for Buzz if it's a boy? That'll be lost on anyone who's never seen Toy Story. Sorry.

Anyway, looking good, ladies. There's something refreshing about celeb mums looking vaguely normal when they're pregnant. Which brings me to Hollywood actress and wife of Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner. Poor old Jen has been banging on about how fat and ugly she felt when she was pregnant with her second baby, a daughter named Seraphina who was born in January of this year.

Sara Cox, Zoe Ball, Jennifer Garner And Halle Berry's Little Lady, Nahla...Fat and ugly? Sorry, Jen, I'm just not seeing it. Of course even celebs have days  where they feel less than uber-glamorous but really, what hope is there for us mere mortals on a fat day when we have to hear how hard celebs have it? Fat and ugly doesn't just ping back like this, either. Nope,  no sympathy here.

Sara Cox, Zoe Ball, Jennifer Garner And Halle Berry's Little Lady, Nahla...Now this wouldn't be a Play Pennies celebaby post if I didn't include a cute baby pic, so  here's Halle Berry's adorable daughter Nahla, showing that she's already sussed how to work the paparazzi.

Gorgeous, eh? I reckon she gives Suri Cruise a run for her money in the cuteness stakes. Although Suri Cruise probably doesn't do a whole lot of running in those high heels of which she is so fond, but that's a whole new post. Check back later in the week for more on the fact that Suri owns more pairs of  fabulous shoes than I do. Grr.

Heidi Klum And Nicole Richie Post Baby Snaps Online!

I can't be the only person on the planet to admit to an irrational fascination with the shoe collection of Suri Cruise. After all, the papers print pictures of her impressive array of footwear on an almost daily basis, so I'm surely not alone. I don't know why I care about what the 3 year old daughter of a Hollywood super-couple wears but apparently I do. There, I've confessed. But... even as I check out the latest pair of teeny heels to adorn her tootsies, I can't help feeling there's something  a bit wrong about the fact that a kid's wardrobe choices should be the subject of so much tabloid fodder. And I can't begin to imagine the pressure that comes for a Mum who knows her child's every item of clothing is going to be analysed by newspapers the world over. I've taken my two-year-old on the school run while he was dressed head to toe as Spiderman, complete with full head mask so I dread to think what the paparazzi would make of that, were we famous.

Which is why I think it's so cool that celeb parents like supermodel Heidi Klum and rockstar husband Seal have taken to posting family snaps on their website. Heidi's pictured here with their newest addition, a baby girl called Lou, and the rest of their kiddie crew, Lennie, Johan and Henry.

They're not the only celebs to strike a pose in public, either. Nicole Richie and her partner Joel Madden posted this cute snap of themselves with daughter Harlow, 2, and their new baby son, Sparrow, on Nicole's website.

I love the fact that they're sharing their family album with the world. This way, we still get to indulge our fascination with the family lives of the rich and famous but it doesn't feel like the intrusion of a paparazzi shot splashed in a tabloid. There's also something really refreshing about celeb mums who  can't help showing off their cute new additions, instead of shrouding them in secrecy and selling pics to the highest bidder only. It also rocks to see celeb mums looking dressed down and relaxed with their brood and makes them seem, well, just a bit more like normal mums, beneath all that glitz and glamour.
