Trespass Swift Pattern 200 Two Person Pop Up Tent £42.99 @ Play.com

Trespass Swift Pattern 200 Two Person Pop Up Tent £42.99 @ Play.com

Play.com have offered a Trespass Swift Pattern 200 Two Person Pop Up Tent for £42.99 instead of £69.99 for Easter Weekend only, saving you £27.

This tent will lead to one of two things happening at whatever festival you take it to: you’ll never not know where your tent is, or you’ll get into someone else’s if they have the same one!  It’s colourful and bright and should certainly stand out amid the field of plain coloured temporary accommodation!

Apparently the Swift 200 is the ultimate in lazy camping: You open the portable carry bag and the tent assembles itself.

This is a 2 person tent, with ventilation flaps, a waterproof scoring of 1500mm and taped seams. While it doesn’t require ropes and pegs, it’s recommended if you’re camping in a windy spot, and comes with them included.

In my experience with pop up tents it’s the packing up that’s a little harder, so this comes with instructions on how to do that too.

Gelert Portable Gas Camping Stove £9.99 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 31 July, 2011 at 8:00 am

Gelert Portable Gas Camping Stove £9.99 @ Amazon

Amazon seems to be gearing up for Summer at the moment, as they add great outdoor and camping deals to their weekly promotions list.  A great example is the 55% they’re giving you off the Gelert Portable Gas Cooker, making this £21.99 stove just £9.99. This deal ends just on midnight tonight, so don't delay!

Okay, so this is quite a basic cooker, and it isn’t going to replace your home cooking equipment. It’s also not going to provide for the whole campsite, or withstand major wind (and please don’t use it in your tent!) but it is perfectly suitable for the occasional camper who needs to boil the kettle for a cuppa, or prepare a quickie dinner at the campsite.

It’s quite a compact cooker, and only weighs 2.2kg – without the gas canister – so it’s not going to take up too much room in your kit and it is great to have the flexibility to be able to brew your own refreshments if everything around you is still closed early in the morning.

Also, be sure you have the right gas canisters and that you know how to set it up, or you may find yourself with a hungry crew and the wrong equipment!

Coleman Novae X2 Tent £100 @ Amazon

Coleman Novae X2 Tent £100 @ Amazon

There’s a fantastic 57% off the Coleman Novae X2 Tent at Amazon, bringing it down from £229.99 to just £100.  This offer is only available till midnight on Sunday.

It’s been over a year now since we went camping in France with my grandmother and then 8 month old daughter and I must admit, I’m about ready for our next trip. We do have a lovely large family sized tent which definitely adds to our comfort on these outings.

This Coleman Novae X2 isn’t quite as large, but it is purpose built for hiking, and weighs just 1.9kg – not bad at all! The tent has one room and a small storage area, and comes with all the bits needed to set it up, including Scandium Air Hercules poles with floating inserts.  For its size it’s very lightweight, and apparently it takes around five minutes to erect – which is great at the end of a long day’s hiking!

And the tent is built to withstand wintry and windy conditions too.

This is a 2 person tent, but a reviewer does mention that it’s only high enough for, erm, horizontal activity, and isn’t really designed to be spending time in it. That said, it is 130cm high at it's highest point, and 80 cm at it's lowest, so you should at least be able to sit up and  get dressed and so on!

Coleman 2 Burner Propane Stove £25 @ Amazon

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 17 July, 2011 at 10:00 am

Coleman 2 Burner Propane Stove £25 @ AmazonGoing camping this holidays? It is always a fun, and fairly cheap option. But you do need to take things with you like something to cook on. Amazon has massively reduced this Coleman 2 Burner Propane Stove to £25, down from £69.99. That's a saving of 64%. Delivery is free with Amazon Prime

Now most people I know use Campingaz stoves for family camping. Which are fabulous in that they're inexpensive. This stove, however, appears to be more sturdily build. But, if you look at the reviews, you can see there's one main drawback that might explain the huge price reduction. The propane canisters for this stove, while easily available in the US, need to be ordered online here in the UK. Which means you have to stock up before you go, and make sure you have enough for your trip.

However, at £25 that could be a risk worth taking?

You get about an hour of cooking time out of one canister, if you are using both rings on high. The stove has InstaStart ignition, two independently adjustable burners, aluminised steel cooking top and a WindBlock system for conserving heat.

Here's what one reviewer said: "It folds down neatly, transports easily, is cheap and the piezo lighter was great (until one of the two on this stove stopped working after a couple of days). The wind shield is effective and it boils water quickly."

Matterhorn 4-Man Tent £29.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 5 June, 2011 at 11:00 am

Matterhorn 4-Man Tent £29.99 @ AmazonAmazon are selling this 4-man Matterhorn tent for £29.99 instead of £59.99, saving you 50%.

A couple of weeks, or so, ago I told you about my daughter's Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award practice expedition that's happening at the end of this month.

One of the things she needs is a Swiss Army knife (the Victrinox Army Knife deal I wrote is still valid by the way; it's a bit of a bargain) along with all the other clothing paraphernalia, she also needs a TENT!

They're going to be carrying huge backpacks and will be wearing big walking boots so I figured a 4-man tent is probably going to be the order of the day; come on, two teenage girls, with all their gear in a 2-man tent...? It would be too cosy even for the best of friends!

So I've been prowling around for some tent deals and came across this rather awesome looking Matterhorn 4-man tent for sale at half price at Amazon.

It measures 240cm x 210cm x 140cm, and has an extra part at the front that measures 120cm.   It also has an inner tent made from breathable polyester, a fly sheet, and a fully sewn in ground sheet.

The poles are colour coded and there are easy to follow instructions too.

Along with that the Matterhorn 4-man tent guy ropes are brightly coloured so that they stand out and should prevent people from tripping over them.

If that wasn't enough it has UV Protection and a hydrostatic head of 3000mm making it more than adequate for dealing with a traditional wet British summer - I've no idea what the 3000mm bit means but it sounds quite impressive.

The reviews are good too, it folds up very small as well, so I think we're onto a winner!

Happy Camping!

4 Person Teepee £39.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 August, 2010 at 11:00 am

4 Person Teepee £39.99 @ ArgosThe other day I told you about a teepee tent for kids, great for them but what if you want a bigger 4-person Teepee ? Well now you can have one!

I'll try my best to get excited about this deal for you - but unless my trips away from home come with 24 hour concierge, room service and massage and spa facilities where I'M not actually the concierge, the chef and the masseuse then I find it a bit tricky.

So, camping - YAY! It's 'fun' and I totally understand why anyone would want to go away on holiday and do all the things they usually do at home but with almost zero facilities or equipment!

Oh ok, so I'm hamming it up a bit just for the fun of it. The last time I went camping was at the Donnington race track for a weekend of motobike racing, it WAS great fun and our tent, along with its little 'front garden' patch grass directly in front,  became a safe haven from the madness that is a huge group of bikers who've had one too many hotdogs.

This 4-person teepee has the following spec' and is a great bargain for all campers, festival goers and motorsport campsite goers as Argos have cut the price in half from £79.99 down to £39.99.

  • 1 room.
  • 2 doors, 4 windows, 4 PVC windows.
  • 1 top air vent.
  • 2000mm hydrostatic head.
  • Taped seams.
  • Fire retardant.
  • Tension adjusters.
  • Size (H)200, (W)360, (D)360cm.
  • Height at highest point 200cm.
  • Packed size (H)20, (W)20, (D)74cm.
  • Weight 6.95kg.

Kids 2 Person Teepee £17.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 26 July, 2010 at 8:00 am

Kids 2 Person Teepee £17.99 @ ArgosEven though you won't catch me in a tent (unless it's a 5 star one a'la those featured in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and then I might consider it!) I can spot a good tent deal when I see one, and this 2 person teepee tent from Argos is just that!

I used to camp you know! Iused to kip out in the garden in my brother's two-man tent and I spent many a camping trip away with the Girl Guides in a 12-girl bell tent!

This 2 person teepee tent reminds me of those Girl Guide days as the shape is very similar, much more interesting than your bog standard square and pointy efforts.

Kids 2 Person Teepee £17.99 @ ArgosThis particular one is in blue camo colours; there is a pink one, if you're after a tent for a girl who's into pink and flatly refuses to sleep under blue, but it's £7 more expensive.

Anyway, back to this one! Argos have reduced it from £49.99 right the way down to £17.99 which is an utter steal, in my opinion! Reading a comment from cRuNcHiE over at HUKD, it's an awesome tent,

"I presume they only call this 'kids' due to the colours. I had one of the brown/creme ones argos do , also 2man, the same size specs as this. Loved it till someone slashed it open at Glasto! For adults you can get 2 in it comfortably, for a festival its really one person plus your stuff realisticly.

Never got wet in it once even with really bad Glasto rain in the past! Recommended!"

So there you have it tent fans! It's great for kids, it's great for adults and it's great for Glasto! What more could you ask for!? (Cheaper home delivery from Argos instead of their £5.95 extortion!)

Complete Camping Cookset £25.00 @ Halfords

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 8 July, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Calling all camping conossieurs and festival fruitcakes!

Personally, I'm a hotel kind of girl! If I'm going away I want to stay somewhere where I don't have to do all the things I normally do at home, but in a MUCH smaller space, with the most minimum of equipment and everyone still expecting a three-course banquet!

Complete Camping Cookset £25.00 @ HalfordsHowever, I'm often assured that this is all part of the 'fun'!  Well if you say so, and so for your bargain-hunting delight here is a GREAT camping cookset at a great price from Halfords - they've reduced it down from £59.99 to just £25.00.

It contains all of the following bits and pieces:

  • 1 x durable rucksack to store and carry all items
  • 1 x portable gas stove
  • 4 x pans
  • 3 x cooking utensils
  • 4 x plastic food containers

It's a shame I don't 'do' camping really;  I almost feel I'm missing out, this is such a bargain! But there will never be a deal good enough to persuade me that an a'la carte menu and room service aren't much more civilised.

If your local Halfords has this in stock (you can check on the website) you can reserve and collect it for free, otherwise you can buy it online and have it delivered for £4.99.

Happy camping!

Gelert Eclipse 2 Man Tent £24.89 @ Sendit.com

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 5 July, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Gelert Eclipse 2 Man Tent £24.89 @ Sendit.comSo, we've got you sorted with a sleeping bag now all you need is a tent and you'll be totally festival-ready!

Tents  have come a long way. Back in the day, when I was about eight or nine, my brother  had a little two-man tent and we used to sleep out in the garden in it now and again.

It was an orangey colour and was just the standard triangular tent shape; just look at how COOL two-man tents look these days! It's never going to be enough to convince me to sleep in one but I can appreciate all of its features:

  • Tent Type: Dome Tunnels
  • Pitching Area L x W: 3400 x 1450mm
  • Hydrostatic Head: 2000mm (I have NO idea what this means, but it sounds great!)
  • Carry Bag Included
  • Guylines help rigidity
  • Steel Pegs
  • Pitch time: 10 mins
  • Taped Seams for Waterproof protection
  • Double Layer skin
  • Air Vents: 1
  • Number of bedrooms: 1
  • Sleeping Capacity: 2
  • Lantern Point
  • Colour coded poles to help with pitching (a very good idea for the camping challenged)
  • Separate porch area (Cute! You can take your shoes off and leave them there before you go 'inside')
  • Waterproof (erm...essential!)
  • Material: Polyester with waterproof PU coating
  • Colour: Red, Charcoal

Gelert Eclipse 2 Man Tent £24.89 @ Sendit.comBut wait, there's MORE! Also included in this deal is a Military Survival Kit worth £14.99, so you can get all Bear Grylls and Ray Mears when you're enduring extreme festival/camping conditions.  The survival kit contains:

  • Window display tin (no, this hasn't got anything to do with Microsoft)
  • Button compass
  • Night light
  • Flint/striker
  • Cutter
  • Waterproof matches (these have always intrigued me)
  • Pencil
  • Sewing kit
  • Wire saw
  • Survival hint sheet (surely an answer sheet would be more useful * hur hur*)

I think this is a GREAT deal and better still, there's no delivery to pay on all UK orders.

Gelert X-Treme Lite 800 Sleeping Bag £14.25 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 5 July, 2010 at 8:00 am

Gelert X-Treme Lite 800 Sleeping Bag £14.25 @ AmazonI used to have a sleeping bag that was supposed to be able to withstand the sort of conditions encountered by Captain Scott and his team!

I used to be a Girl Guide therefore I camped, but it was never something I really enjoyed so as soon as I was old enough to hang up my woggle I did!

But my trusty arctic-force sleeping bag came in handy years later when I spent the weekend at a campsite in Donnington for the then equivalent of MotoGP (the GP500!) and camping took on a whole new angle *grin*

Sleeping outdoors under canvas is many things but it's guranteed to be miserable if you're cold, equally it's no fun if you're too hot because your bag is the wrong weight for the season.

This is a great deal what with it being festival season (and there are some GREAT ones coming up). This Gelert X-Treme sleeping bag is a two season 'lite' one, so it's going to keep you warm enough but not see you waking up in a bag of sweat - what a thought for first thing on a Monday morning!

When it's rolled out it's dimensions are:  210cm x 78cm x 50cm.  When it's rolled up in it's little bag it measures a tiny: 36cm x 15cm!  Much fun was always had trying to get the big bag back into the little bag...

Amazon have reduced this sleeping bag by 62% bringing it's price down from £37.99 to £14.25!

Happy festival-going and camping (if you like that sort of thing!)

Uni-Com Wind-Up Mini-Lantern £3.33 @ Tesco Direct

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 June, 2010 at 8:00 am

Uni-Com Wind-Up Mini-Lantern £3.33 @ Tesco DirectNow this is the sort of thing I need in my house!

The other night I flicked a light switch in my lounge and it blew a bulb and tripped a couple of switches in the fuse box. Five minutes later all hell was breaking loose as the house alarm started to scream at the top of its 'voice' for the whole neighbourhood to enjoy.

Being half past midnight it was dark and my kids all have a thing for torches - even The Teenagers, still - and so of course when I needed to use one there wasn't one with any decent battery power left. I was NOT impressed.

If I'd had one of these Uni-Com wind-up mini lanters I'd have been alright! A quick one minute wind gives you 30 minutes of lamp illumination from its four super-bright LEDs. The thought of not having to scrabble around in the dark trying to find batteries is incredibly appealing and so I've just ordered one of these little lanterns.

Tescos have reduced them in price from £7.99 to £3.33 - you can arrange to collect it from your local store or pay the rather extortionate (in my opinion) next day delivery charge of £5.00.
