Thomas The Tank Engine Watch, Camera, Binoculars Action Set Boxed £9.99 @ Play.comHere's a gift set to grab for the good old present drawer. I know we talk about the present drawer a lot but do you have one? We had one as kids and I've found it a total lifesaver now that I've got kids of my own. I just grab affordable birthday presents when I find them, and I keep them in a drawer. Great because you don't have to rush around looking for presents and you can give quite good presents because you can buy when they're on sale. Like this Thomas The Tank Engine Watch, Camera, Binoculars Action Set, which is half price on Play.com. Down from £19.99 to £9.99. Delivery is included.

Now it is time to reveal the little secret about this gift set. Despite the name Play.com has given it on the website it is in fact a Trainspotter Kit. Yes! It is a Thomas the Tank Engine themed trainspotter set. Still what little kid is really going to care, as long as it has binoculars? Could be fun to see the look on their parents' faces though when the read the packaging.

There's no information at all about the product on the website. So there aren't any other details for me to give you I'm afraid.

Digicool Camera £22.50 @ ELC

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 5 March, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Digicool Camera £22.50 @ ELCThose lovely folks at the Early Learning Centre are selling this Digicool Camera for half price; £22.50 instead of £45 AND they're giving away a free case with it too.

Part of my non-PlayPennies life (yes, there is such a thing) is spent as a photographer, so I tend to keep a look-out for good kids camera deals and this Digicool Camera is one such deal.

It's a great little hard-wearing camera, so it won't be the end of the world if it gets dropped now and again, and is nice and easy for little hands to grip.

Your budding David Bailey will be able to take, view and edit their own photos as the Digicool Camera has easy to use in-built photo editor, silly frames and stamps and two kaleidoscope effects.

It also has a built-in automatic flash, a 2 x digital zoom and 64MB of internal memory which will hold over 400 photos - I think that should be enough to get little kids aged three and over started.

The Digicool Camera also includes a USB cable for connecting it to your PC so you can store and print your child's photographic masterpieces.

Happy snapping!

Kodak Playsport Pocket Camera Review

Kodak Playsport Pocket Camera Review

Over the summer, I started using the Kodak Playsport pocket video camera - a great all rounder and perfect underwater gadget.

If you're after a pocket-sized camera that's light and easy to transport, takes great home movies perfect for Youtube, and pretty decent stills, the Playsport ticks all the right boxes. If your baby is taking swimming lessons, or your family is off for some fun in the sun, you will love this. It is built to withstand a bit of rough and tumble, so would suit mountain climbers, skiers and children alike.

The Playsport takes 5MP stills and video at full 1080p HD, and at 30 frames a second too – more than enough quality for those general outdoor or underwater clips (up to 10ft). For a bit more creative flexibility, there's also the option of 60 frames per second at the slightly lower 1280 x 720 quality (720p), giving you the potential for some nice underwater slo-mos.

Kodak Playsport Pocket Camera ReviewThe Kodak Playsport has a few more features than some other pocket cameras, such as the glare shield, 4x digital zoom, built-in face detection and electronic image stabilisation. Alternatively just point and shoot, and the Playsport will pretty much do all the hard work for you.

Usability is a massive plus point. It's small enough for one hand, turns on and off quickly so you're not going to miss all the great pool-action before it is finally ready. Add a 32GB card and you can have about ten hours recording time, while the camera also has good battery life which will recharge in the time you're off enjoying the local cuisine.

I think it's a great pocket camera. We have had loads of fun with it over the past few months and have recorded some pretty memorable moments, particularly of my water baby in the photos you can see  above.

Hitachi HCD1097 10MP Digital Camera £68.99 @ Argos (RRP £179.99)

Hitachi HCD1097 10MP Digital Camera £68.99 @ Argos (RRP £179.99)At £68.99 instead of £179.99 this deal seems like a pretty reasonable saving on this Hitachi digital camera.

Now, I know cameras aren't for kids and this deal might not immediately be the obvious thing to post on Play Pennies but if you're expecting a baby, a decent digital camera is right up there near the top  of the list of new parent must-haves.

We splashed out on a decent camera when my son was a few weeks old and it's probably one of the best investments we've ever made. 5 years on it's still going strong and we have no reason to upgrade it yet. As new parents you tend to take literally hundreds of photographs of your precious bundle, and I can vouch for the fact that relatives, especially Grandparents, will appreciate you emailing weekly snaps, especially if they're too far away to witness first-hand how the baby changes from week to weeHitachi HCD1097 10MP Digital Camera £68.99 @ Argos (RRP £179.99)k.

I can't vouch for the quality of this camera but there are 15 reviews from Argos customers so do check out what they have to say about it. It's been rated 4.3 stars out of a possible 5 so all in all it looks like a fairly decent purchase at a nice price.
