2011 Christmas Bear £3.25 @ Build A Bear Workshop

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 29 December, 2011 at 6:00 pm

2011 Christmas Bear £3.25 @ Build A Bear WorkshopI ummed and ahhed about this one. It is called a Christmas bear, and it does have 2011 on the foot, so it kinda makes the bear a bit out of date already. But there doesn't really seem to be anything about it that looks like Christmas unless you count a tartan ribbon. So if you've a baby born in 2011 you want to give a present to then this is an option. But either way this is a Build A Bear teddy bear! For £3.25 including delivery. And last I looked, babies didn't really care about dates.

This classic teddy with a big red bow is full of wishes for a wonderful winter season. You can personalise this animal with clothes and accessories to make the perfect gift. However, this bear cannot be purchased unstuffed. Also, sounds cannot be placed inside a pre-stuffed item.

There is only limited availability, which isn't surprising given the price and the brand involved. However, that was shortly before the posting time on this deal so if you're here within the next hour or so you should be able to snag yourself a bargain.

Hallow Kitty Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 22 October, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Hallow Kitty Review

My daughter has just hit the Hello Kitty stage and the “Ooooh Halloween” stage and so I got her this pretty darn awesome Halloween Hello Kitty from Build-a-Bear Workshop. At first glance online, the Hallow (geddit? Hahaha) Kitty doesn’t look that appealing. It really doesn’t.

The mottled texture makes it look like packaging as opposed to a cute Build-a-Bear toy. However, once you get this bear it looks completely different and is oh, so, very soft. Soft, soft, soft like that toilet paper advert.

She is also a spectacular orange colour. I’m a fan of orange so this worked for me but was it something that worked for my daughter?

Her face lit up when she saw this Hello Kitty and it has remained by her side for weeks now. She refuses to sleep without it and getting her to school is a bit of a trial as she, obviously, can’t take it with her.

The Hello Kitty has undergone quite a bit of use since I got it for her, so how is it holding up. Fine, is the answer. Build-a-Bear really do deliver good quality toys that are robust enough to handle most kinds of kiddie abuse. We still have bears we made when I was pregnant and they look like new.

The second question is, of course, the price. This Hello Kitty is big. She sits at 46cm and is a lot for small arms to cuddle. She is also a brand so there has to be the obligatory slapping on of extra dosh for the name. I think that £20 is an averagely good price for a Hello Kitty Halloween toy that can be customised and built together.

You could get a large Hello Kitty toy elsewhere for cheaper but it wouldn’t be this awesome bright orange and have loads of extra clothing to kit her out with either. A good buy as a special treat.

Build-A-Bear Limited Edition Love-Bug Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 3 March, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Build-A-Bear Limited Edition Love-Bug Review

I’ve long been a fan of Build-A Bear-Workshop. In fact, I am the one who throws a tantrum when we can’t go inside. And yet I have never managed to build a good bear. Mine are either too stiff or turned out to be cats, not bears. Really.

So when I was sent the utterly adorable Love Bug Bear I melted. She costs £9, down from £13.50, has truly cute wings, and even had the dads going, “Aaah.”  In fact, I had to wrestle her away from one of the dads who was sort of bouncing it on his knee. A great big strapping man playing with the Love Bug.

The Love Bug is very well constructed and is soft, soft, soft. I am not entirely sure about the wings, though. The wings may start out looking perfect but after minutes they already have seam lines in them. The tiniest bend can cause a line to form.

This didn’t bother me much, if I am honest. I think a bear is supposed to be worn and rough and look as if it has been loved. Certainly the fur on this one is soft enough to encourage plenty of cuddling.

The Love Bug Bear from Build-A-Bear Workshop has replaced poor Jessie as the Toy To Sleep With at the moment. I even had to wrestle it away from my daughter as she tried to smuggle it to school in her backpack.

The Love Bug Bear is limited edition so he won’t be online for very much longer. If you happened to forget Valentine’s Day (gasp!) or have a birthday coming up, then this is a completely delightful gift.

Postage will cost you another £3.25 for standard shipping though, so perhaps you should nab your Love Bug from the nearest Build-A-Bear store.

To use this code, you'll need to go through the checkout process to the page where your payment information is taken. You can just enter the code on this page, without your card details, to see if it works before proceeding further.

I tried it out on two adorable bears, Fair Isle Style Snow Hugs Teddy £37.50 (pictured above) and the 40cms Snow Hug Teddy £15 (also pictured above). This came to a total of £52.50. These bears are not cheap! But they are gorgeous and little girls in particular love them. Personally, I'm not sure about buying them online. It seems to me that the real fun is in doing it in-store. Anyway, with the code applied my total came down to £37.50 before delivery.

Standard delivery of 3 to 5 working days costs £3.25.

Build A Bear Toys Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 11 December, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Build A Bear Toys Review

Over the last year, we've acquired two Build A Bear soft toys: a rabbit and a bear.

As an overall verdict, I have to say that they are great. The bears are well made, the accessories are super-cute, and there's enough variety and option that you're highly unlikely to buy something the intended recipient already owns.

They're also relatively unique, so you're not going to end up two or three of the same toys under the Christmas tree.

There's attention to even small details – for example, the rabbit has a tail, and her jeans (and the panties underneath!) have a hole in for the tail to go through.

Our rabbit came in jeans and a t-shirt, while the bear came in full Viking regalia, complete with a material sword and shield, a Viking hat and boots. There are loads of other outfits to choose from too – a jedi knight, Christmas costumes, and various fairy tale costumes, as well as 'fashion' clothing, formal clothings, sports and swim wear.

There's also a plethora of accessories, from health care to electronics to furniture to go with your new furry Build A Bear friend.

All Build A Bears come in a cardboard 'house' complete with windows and doors for safekeeping. We sealed up the windows on ours and use them for storing small toys.

We love them and will be adding to our her collection this Christmas too.

I love the Build A Bear Workshop and all their fantastic options for bears, bunnies, kittens, dogs and more. I love the clothes, the accessories and the shoes, but most of all, I love creativity. I love walking in and matching outfits to furry friends.

It's true that Build A Bear isn't your average discount store cuddly soft toy – they aren't cheap, but they are great quality!

And so much of the experience is in 'building' the bear together.

Of course, if you don't have a workshop nearby, online is as good an option, just a little less fun in the preparation.

I have ordered a 43cm Hello Kitty, and added three outfits to it, the Sleeping Beauty Costume, the Snow White Costume and Sequined Satin Dress. This came to £53.00, which also 'entitles' you to a gift card worth £10.00 for £5.00. I didn't add this, so with the code applied, my total was £46.20.

The great thing is that all Build A Bear clothes are interchangeable, so our two other furry friends now have new outfits, giving them new life too, without having to buy two new toys.
