Philips Avent Via Manual Breast Pump 50% Off @ Tesco

The Philips Avent Via Manual Breast Pump is £15.10 at Tesco, 50% off the £30.21 it normally is. This price is valid until the 2nd of August 2011.

I’ve never used the Avent breastpump from Philips, so I can’t speak for it personally, and I’m more of an electric pump fan anyway, but according to the reviewers on Amazon, it’s a very effective pump. While one works better for one person than another, it’s great to see reviews such as “This Avent manual pump is brilliant, it's easy to use, silent and discreet and easy to dismantle and clean. Best of all is how well it works - I was amazed at how quickly I could express a bottle-full of milk! I totally recommend this pump.”

Avent claim that this pump has patented soft massage cushions that trigger natural let down and another Amazon reviewer confirms “This pump is very good at getting a let down reflex. The vacuum that builds up is then very efficient at expressing milk.”

Included in the box you’ll find the pump, VIA storage containers for safe storage and transport, leak proof twist on lid, and an adapter for expressing and feeding.

Medela Mini Electric Breastpump Review

Medela Mini Electric Breastpump Review

I love the Medela Mini Electric breastpump, because for me, it works. It doesn’t try to be a super sleek, ultra luxurious pumping machine. It tries to be a small and effective breast pump and in my view it succeeds.

Although the Medela Mini is touted as being “ideal for short term or occasional use”. It is small enough to fit in any overnight bag and most nappy bags and can be used plugged in or run on battery power.

As much as I enjoy breastfeeding, pumping is not my favourite activity, so it’s a real plus for me being able to fill a 7oz bottle in about 10 minutes. The Medela Mini has fantastic suction and adjustable strength to suit your preferences.

The only downside to this pump, especially in relation to another I’ve tried recently, is that it is quite noisy. This isn’t a huge problem for me, as I pump at home and so don’t have to worry about who can hear me, but it’s certainly not the most discreet pump – a point a number of users have already made in online feedback.

Medela state that their pump is unique in mimicking a baby’s natural nursing rhythm in a two- phase expression simulation. Medela puts this down to the research it has put into studying the way babies suckle.

The Medela Mini sells for £50 – £60 depending on retailer.

Tommee Tippee Manual Breast Pump £10 @ Asda

Tommee Tippee Manual Breast Pump £10 @ Asda

The Tommee Tippee Manual Breast Pump is only £10 in the Asda Baby Event - £16 off it's £26 price.

The Tommee Tippee Breast Pump is apparently the best-selling manual breast pump on the market.

It has only three parts to put together, which is great compared to it's electric counterpart which is way more fiddly.

The set includes a 5oz BPA-free bottle and slow flow teat with and Easivent valve, a sealing cap for breast milk storage, a Steri box for steam sterilising in the microwave, and also a convenient storage place when not in use and breast pads.

Tommee Tippee state that the soft touch cup is 'rippled for easier and more comfortable expressing' but this is definitely a matter of personal opinion. Some users find that it actually hinders expressing. As with most things in parenting, every woman is different, and while this pump might not work for you, another might – I know I never got on with a manual pump – so it's worth trying another pump before giving up.

A reviewer here says the pump is “easy to use and clean and I found it really easy to switch between breast & bottle with the closer to nature system. I've since tried the closer to nature electric pump and the medela swing pump, but am about to buy a second one of these as it's by far the best for us.” Which is ironically the exact opposite of what worked for me.

Which is why this one at only £10 is great – if it works for you, it's a bargain, and if it doesn't, you haven't lost much!

Avent Manual Pump £23.33 @ Boots

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Deals on 25 February, 2010 at 11:00 am

We've already mentioned the deal on the Avent baby monitor at BoAvent Manual Pump £23.33 @ Bootsots but we've finally cottoned onto the fact that they're offering up to a third off a whole range of items in the Philips Avent range of baby products.

Advantage Card customers who spend £20 or more on baby products will earn a rather lovely 10 points for every £1 spent, too.

One of the best deals in this offer is the Philips Avent Manual Breast Pump for £23.33 instead of the usual price tag of £35.00, saving you £11.67. That's more than enough for an enormous latte, a giant slice of chocolate fudge cake and possibly even the latest best-seller. And you'll deserve all of those if you have need of a breast pump because expressing milk is not the easiest or the most fun task in the world. BUT! Expressing milk so that someone else can feed the babe is brilliant for father-baby bonding (and even grandparent-baby bonding) as well as for buying you an early night or an hour with that enormous slice of fudge cake.

I can't recommend this pump highly enough. I tried the uber-expensive hospital grade electronic ones but frankly, this little dude did the job perfectly well. The VIA cups that it comes with are absolutely brilliant too. You get 5 cups and lids plus 2 clever little adapAvent Manual Pump £23.33 @ Bootstors and teats to transform the cups into bottles. If I remember correctly the cups made brilliant pots for freezing purees when you reach the weaning stage, too.

There are loads of items in the Boots Avent sale incuding sterilisers and bottles so if you're shopping for an imminent arrival, it's worth checking out the items currently on offer at Boots.
