Guess How Much I Love You Book And Writing Set £2.99 @ The Book PeopleThe Book People have a lovely deal on this Guess How Much I Love You hardback book and writing set - it has an rrp of £9.99, they're letting it go for £2.99.

Guess how much I love this Guess How Much I Love You book and writing set?  LOTS, that's how much.

There are some books that are great. There are some that are funny and there are some that become firm favourites. Then there are some that you just fall head over heels in love with – Guess How Much I Love You is one of those fall-in-love-with books.

I know what it feels like to try and tell someone just HOW much you love them, there don't seem to be enough words or ways to quantify it, in Guess How Much I Love You, Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare discover that love isn't something you can easily measure.

The writing set comes with 20 sheets of beautiful paper, 12 envelopes and 12 sheets of stickers so you can put pen to paper and tell someone just how much you love them.

I'd buy this just for the letter writing set alone, it's just stunning and if you apply either of these codes at the checkout - ZD533 or UAR040 - you'll get free delivery too.

Chuggington Book Collection £4.99 @ Red House

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 January, 2011 at 9:00 am

Chuggington Book Collection £4.99 @ Red HouseRed House are selling this four book Chuggington Book Collection for £4.99 instead of the £15.96 list price.

Books make great gifts; long after toys have been played with and got bored with, books are still being enjoyed at bedtime.

All of my family fell in love with Chuggington when it first hit the TV screens – my youngest gave everyone character names: he was Wilson, my eldest was Brewster and my daughter was KoKo, it really was far too cute actually.

If you’re not familiar with Chuggington, here’s a quick lesson in all things Chuggington.

Wilson, Brewster and KoKo are trainee locomotive engines (Chuggers) who live in the town of Chuggington and they get up to all sorts of mischief and adventures, whilst learning important life lessons along the way (of course!).

Wilson is the youngest and can be a bit over-enthusiastic sometimes, Brewster is the sensible one and KoKo is outgoing and daring.

I really love the idea of including books in party bags; at just over £1 a book a few sets of this Chuggington Book collection would make for inexpensive additions to the traditional piece of birthday cake and balloon.

They'd also be great for standbys in the emergency pressie drawer.

Delivery is free if you find a few more things you like and spend over £15, otherwise you'll pay a single item delivery free of £1.95.

Happy reading!

Whack Around The Head Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 20 January, 2011 at 5:00 pm

No, I am not kidding, that really is the title of the book that I grabbed for our month of self improvement and rejuvenation. It’s called Whack Around The Head and it is written by leadership coach and NLP trainer, Sharon Eden.

It is all about giving you, the reader, a proverbial kick up the bum and encouraging you to be more successful in your life and work. And by this I mean happiness and fulfilment as opposed to lots of cash, although that would be nice too.

Sharon talks about ways in which you can stop feeling dispirited about life and your career, and how to stop that “get up, work, survive, go to bed and repeat” feeling. A feeling that most of us have had at one time or another.

I tend to struggle with that sense of futility in the winter months when the cold reduces me to a soggy mess of pathetic human. So, this book was a great way to boot out the cobwebs and take a fresh look at things.

Whack Around The Head Review

The book is very well laid out with lots of spaces and the writing broken up into bite-sized chunks. It doesn’t feel like an overwhelming opus but rather like a simple go-to guide that you can absorb in a few (and rare) spare moments.

I liked the quotes from famous names like Nelson Mandela, the occasional bursts of humour, the down-to-earth tone, and the very solid advice. However, this is not for the sceptical. People who dislike self-help genre books will be lost in the first few pages.

This book is for people who are interested in learning something new and nabbing some gems of advice to help them improve their lives. It’s worth a read, it really is and it’s on sale on Amazon for £9.24.

Little Red Tractor Book Collection £4.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 20 January, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Little Red Tractor Book Collection £4.99 @ The Book PeopleThe Little Red Tractor is a hero; The Book People are pretty heroic too, in my opinion, with their book deals - they're selling the eight books that make up this Little Red Tractor Book collection, complete with little rucksack to put them in, for £4.99 instead of the recommended price of £20.

I have such a love for books that I could happily write book deals for you a l l the time, they are just the most amazing things to give and to receive too.

Have you seen the Little Red Tractor programmes on TV?  If you haven't then you're missing out on a huge treat, my youngest has a bit of a thing for anything tractor, digger or JCB and he fel in love with the Little Red Tractor right from the very first episode.

Essentially, the Little Red Tractor is an old fashioned tractor who belongs to a nice farmer and his family. The rich Lord of the Manor has a posh, shiny, all-singing-all-dancing tractor that he likes to show off in.

The thing is something always goes wrong (which is quite funny) and the farmer with the Little Red Tractor have to come and save the day *girn*

I think it's pretty safe to assume that any child who becomes the proud owner of these eight Little Red Tractor books will enjoy listening to, and learning to read, them.

One more thing - if you enter code ZD533 into the promotions code box at the checkout, you'll get free delivery too.

Peter Rabbit Little Library £1.65 @ Asda

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 15 January, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Peter Rabbit Little Library £1.65 @ AsdaThe Peter Rabbit Little Library is a book set containing stories about Peter Rabbit and five of his little friends. I don't think these are the originals - on the website it says that the stories are based on the original tales and use Beatrix Potter's original artwork. The price on the website is £3.65, but if you enter the online voucher discount code BOOK2 the price is reduced to £1.65. Delivery is free.

I'm not sure what I love the most about Beatrix Potter, the stories or the beautiful illustrations. I loved to death the Beatrix Potter set of books we had when I was a child, and I invested in a set for my son as well. We also had Beatrix Potter Audio LP (remember those!) with the stories read by Wendy Craig (of Butterflies fame).

The books I bought for my son are a little bit too posh I think. They were expensive, and are beautifully made, but I find myself rather reluctant to let him anywhere near them. As I write this I am realising that I did in fact buy those books for me! A set like this makes for a perfect introduction to Beatrix Potter for little ones, and I wouldn't be afraid to let him loose on the books on his own!

I spent most of my time in the Toys and Books sections of the site. There's a Ladybird Make and Do Book Boxset reduced to £3.50. And I was tempted by the child's tin bucket on sale for £1. I was thinking that for a small birthday party of say ten children, this would make a nice take home present instead of the usual gift bag. A tin bucket with some home-made sweets, a piece of cake and maybe some pencils or pens.

Charlie and Lola Magnet Book £4.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 2 January, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Charlie and Lola Magnet Book £4.99 @ The Book PeopleThe Book People are selling this Charlie and Lola Magnet Book for £4.99 - £8 less than its rrp price of £12.99.

I love Charlie and Lola!

A few months ago I was in the park with my youngest, and we saw a boy who was the SPITTING image of Charlie – it was quite unnerving actually and I resisted the temptation to look around for Lola!

I don’t know anyone who isn’t totally smitten with Charlie and Lola, Charlie has…

“…a little sister Lola, she is small and very funny.”

Ahhhh it just reminds me of bed time with my youngest when he was a couple of years younger.

Charlie and Lola were on TV at just the right time for post warm bath, in pyjamas and hot milk viewing which was followed by bed and more Charlie and Lola with bed time stories.

This Charlie and Lola Magnet Book looks like lots of fun - it has nine magnets which will allow young Charlie and Lola fans to mix and match and mash up outfits for Charlie and Lola to wear to Marv's party.

They can go conservative with their choices or really let their imaginations run riot, and come up with some outfits that would make even the most kooky fashion designers proud.

Trouble With Daisy Book Collection £6.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 December, 2010 at 9:00 am

Trouble With Daisy Book Collection £6.99 @ The Book People

The Book People have a rather lovely deal on this Trouble With Daisy book collection.

Six books make up this Trouble With Daisy book collection which makes them a fabulous bargain, in my opinion.

I love books and I love giving books - they are just brilliant for presents and you know they will be enjoyed again and again and again.

Daisy is cheeky and she gets herself tangled up in all sorts of trouble and adventures.

Her stories are broken down into short chapters so young bookworms will feel confident at having a go at reading the Trouble With Daisy books on their own.

The titles included in the Trouble With Daisy Book Collection are:

  • Daisy and the Trouble with Life
  • Daisy and the Trouble with Maggots
  • Daisy and the Trouble with Kittens
  • Daisy and the Trouble with Zoos
  • Daisy and the Trouble with Giants
  • Daisy and the Trouble with Christmas

With book collections like this, and at this price, I'd be tempted to buy a couple and either keep them in the emergency pressie draw OR, you could split them up and put them in party bags if you have a kiddies party looming on the horizon.

Finally, if you like the sound of free delivery too then enter SNOWBALL to your basket before you checkout.

The Gruffalo Story Book £2.39 @ Play

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 December, 2010 at 12:00 pm

The Gruffalo Story Book £2.39 @ Play

There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo…didn’t you know?! But there is such a thing a  The Gruffalo story book deal over at Play just now!

Just in case you’ve only recently arrived from Mars and have no idea what this ‘Gruffalo’ thing is I’m talking about, here’s a quick Gruffalo 101:

The Gruffalo is a monster; he has terrible tusks, and terrible claws, and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws; he has knobbily knees and turned-out toes and a poisounous wart at the end of his nose.

Scary huh! Everyone in the deep dark wood seems to think so…apart from a clever little mouse.

The Gruffalo really has captured the imagination of the nation and there are few things that have yet to have the Gruffalo stamp put on them…like fresh air, although I’m sure it’s coming soon to a store near you!

Well, you can buy jars of fresh country air from the National Trust - I kid you not! - so why not some from the Deep Dark Wood?! (Gruffalo marketing people...that was my idea first, I claim the rights to it!)

If you don't already own a copy of The Gruffalo story book then you must rectify this insanity at ONCE! You can grab The Gruffalo from play.com for £2.39 instead of £5.99 - go on, do it now...it's the LAW!

Aliens Love Panta Claus £2.97 @ The Book Depository

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 20 December, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Aliens Love Panta Claus £2.97 @ The Book Depository

Aliens Love Panta Claus is the third instalment of the Aliens series of books by Claire Freedman. My daughter utterly adored Aliens Love Underpants – in fact I can probably recite it in my sleep – and this loos to be as adorable as its predecessors.

To get the low price of £2.97 you will need to use the Book Depository 10% off code which is FCBZ10. This will shave off a nice number from the price you see on the page and they will deliver it for free.

In this  book the aliens are very excited. It is nearly Christmas Day and instead of stealing underpants they are now giving them away. To fit in with the festive spirit they are going to share out their beloved underpants with everyone else. But only for one day – after that your underpants are fair game once again.

These stories feature really catchy rhymes and are delightfully entertaining for adults and children alike. I also find the illustrations utterly hilarious. A fabulous Christmas gift this one.

Amazon Christmas Book Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 December, 2010 at 9:00 am

Amazon Christmas Book BargainsBooks make the most excellent Christmas presents and Amazon have some fantastic books deals just waiting to be snapped up.

If the Amazon book department was an actual book shop, can you imagine how BIG it would be?!

I adore books, I love to receive them, I love to write them and I love to give them.

A book is the perfect solution for almost any present giving situation - there is, I'm utterly sure, a book for everyone.

If you know someone who's a budding chef, then Jamie Oliver's latest book 30 Minute Meals is definitely worth taking a look at in the Cookery Book section.

For kids, there are the old favourites of recent times, like The Gruffalo, or a book that took me right back to my early childhood when I saw it just now, The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

If you have young enquiring minds then there are plenty of factual books that are grossly entertaining, informative and interesting.

There's a Christmas present book for the tiniest babies right through to great-grandparents - all you have to do is grab a mug of coffee and a mincepie, muse around the book department and order before Saturday 18 December if you want to guarantee Christmas delivery for the cost of first-class postage.

After that you'll be paying for express delivery and the last order date is Monday 20 December.

Happy Book Hunting!
