Bob The Builder 'Scoop' Inflatable Chair £3.99 @ Play

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 8 February, 2011 at 11:00 am

Bob The Builder 'Scoop' Inflatable Chair £3.99 @ PlayPlay are selling this Bob the Builder 'Scoop' Inflatable Chair for just £3.99. The rrp is £12.99 and it's being sold on Amazon for £16.99.

My youngest loved Bob the Builder and used to call him ‘Bobber’ when he really little and couldn’t get his tongue around his full name.

Where does the time go?! My youngest started school last Septemeber and my eldest, who was also a Bob the Builder fan (I forget that ‘Bobber’ has been around for a long time!), leaves school in just 16 weeks time.

I’m much more of an 'older child' parent, but I miss the really cute things like not being able to say Bob the Builder properly *sigh*

Scoop was a very firm favourite in our household - particularly with my youngest as he's a fan of all things digger and JCB - so he would have utterly LOVED this Scoop inflatable chair.

It's straightforward and simple to use - you blow it up and your child sits on it *grin* Well come on! How many things can you say about an inflatable chair?

There's no delivery to pay on items ordered from Play for delivery within the UK, so £3.99 is all you'll be parting with for this Bob the Builder 'Scoop' Inflatable Chair.

MAPS Toys: Build It With Bob, EZ-Fort And Bloco Review

MAPS Toys: Build It With Bob, EZ-Fort And Bloco Review

I'm a big lover of interactive toys that make children think, be creative and move around, so you can just imagine how much I love the items MAPS Toys sent us. We asked PlayPennies mums Kelly and Tracy to review three sets from the MAPS range: Build it with Bob, EZ-Fort and Bloco Savannah and Horses and Unicorns.

Build It With Bob

Build It With Bob - £27.99 for the largest set - is a range of creative toys that with which children build houses, walls, towers and other structures with real mini clay bricks and water soluble cement.

I thought my son would be too old for this,” says Kelly, mum to a seven year old, “but the fact that it is a proper building toy – as in you actually build with bricks and cement – made it a winner.”

MAPS Toys: Build It With Bob, EZ-Fort And Bloco ReviewThe set comes with instructions on how to build, but you can make your own designs too. The set includes bricks and cement and a good sized base board, which, says Kelly, “keeps dust and stickiness to a bare minimum.”

The best thing about the Build It With Bob range, Kelly tells us, is “that you can just soak the bricks and re-make with them once you are bored with your construction. The downside is that you would need to replace the cement fairly quickly, as it isn't the biggest bag in the world.”

Additional packs of cement are available.

EZ-Fort

MAPS Toys: Build It With Bob, EZ-Fort And Bloco ReviewThis was SUCH a winner”, Kelly gushed. “First off I should say my son did not make a fort with it. He made hurdles to jump over, he made a 'frame to put around his head' (he is a weird kid) and he made a big square on the floor to 'put things in'.”

EZ-Fort - £34.99 at Amazon - is a 54 piece framework building system. It is the perfect size for small spaces whether in the house or the garden. Colour coded lengths of robust polycarbonate tube push into the connecting spheres to create a vast array of structures. But, it seems, no fort for Kelly's son.

But no fort no matter – this is one heck of a toy for not much outlay – it totally captured his imagination – so much so, I found him browsing the EZ-Fort website! The booklet is excellent for inspiring ideas, too. He his apparently building a 'shelter' next for himself and his friend to sleep in at the next sleepover.

So a huge thumbs up from Kelly, the only downside to it is that her living room is taken over by whatever he makes. But either way, “Highly recommended” were Kelly's last words on it.

Bloco

We asked Kelly and her son to test the Bloco Savannah animal set (£19.99 at Amazon). Bloco are high density foam designed in unique colourful shapes. The foam pieces link together and rotate to any angle using the special connectors.
MAPS Toys: Build It With Bob, EZ-Fort And Bloco Review
Kelly felt that this was a great toy for encouraging further conversations on wildlife, but that her son was really a bit too old for it. “The pieces”, she told us, “are very child friendly, bright and easy to use, and the whole product range is designed to capture the imagination in an educational way.

She did feel though, that they would be more suited to a younger child, so following her recommendation, we sent a set of Bloco Horses and Unicorns (£24.99 at Amazon) to Tracy, mum to the four year old Abigail.

There are instructions,” began Tracy, “but Abigail dove in and started taking all the pieces out of the foam, and really, I think it's a bit old for her. I am terrible at 3D things, so I was relieved when my husband came home and fixed my attempt at a unicorn.”

Tracy felt that the instructions were a bit daunting, but even so, the kit was enormous fun. She loved that they could follow the instructions or make up their own animals, but she didn't feel that they were particularly robust as Abigail's attempt at galloping a unicorn around the room resulted in bits and pieces falling off it and that it required “constant maintenance.”

Still,” Tracy maintained, “my child had great fun with it and we loved it. It's messy as hell, as the bits multiply and spread across the room, but it would be a great Christmas present – but maybe for someone else's kid so you don't have to tidy up. But your kids will love it.”

And Finally...

A big thumbs up from the PlayPennies mums for MAPS Toys then, even with a few little niggles and quirks.

All MAPS toys are stocked by a variety of major retailers, and prices vary dependent on stockist.

Bob The Builder Series 1 & 2 DVD £4.25 @ HMV

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 27 October, 2010 at 8:00 am

Bob The Builder Series 1 & 2 DVD £4.25 @ HMV

Bob the Builder Series 1 and 2 on DVD for £4.25 instead of £12.99? Yes please!

Well, I say 'yes please' but my youngest has grown out of 'Bobber' (as he used to call him) and it's Star Wars: Clone Wars and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien all the way now.

I still love Bob the Builder though...but not enough to want to sit down and watch series 1 and 2 in their entirety - so put your credit cards away, no really...you don't need to have them sent to me for Christmas, it's fine.

If your little one is a Bob the Builder fan though then having something like this on stand-by isn't a bad idea.

I'm not the sort of parent who likes to see my kids sat in front of the TV all day (hurrah for pin protection on all channels on Sky - the teenagers HATE it *grin*) but sometimes the stillness it affords can come into its own.

Ever tried getting a child to rest when they're not feeling so great, but haven't been knocked off their feet yet with whatever they're coming down with?  Sitting down with them in front of their favourite programme - Bob the Builder in this case - solves that in one easy step, and is a good excuse to nab some cuddles too.

Rainy days when you've exhausted all painting, drawing and creating activities? Bung on Bob the Builder - it worked for me anyway, good old Bob!

There's no delivery to pay on orders within the UK from HMV so £4.25 is all you need to part with.

Build It With Bob Construction Set Review

by Sarah Macdonald in Reviews on 29 September, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Build It With Bob Construction Set Review

My youngest LOVES Bob. So I was greatly relieved when we shipped out the Bob the Builder: Build it with Bob 70-Piece Construction Set we'd been sent to one of our mum reviewers.

These are 'marmite' toys; you're either going to be a lover or a hater!

You see, it comes with REAL bricks, REAL cement (oh yes, real cemet!) and a REAL mini trowel. It also comes with a poseable figure of Bob (that's ok, I can cope with that).

NOW you know why I was quaking in my boots HOPING it wasn't going to be given to me to review; my carpet was terrified for a moment and the cleaner put on standby (that would be me!).

Louise was our chosen mummy victim to experience the delights of authentic brick laying with the Bob the Builder: Build it with Bob 70-piece Construction Set (oooh I'm so glad it wasn't me!).

"The box arrived wrapped securely in a couple of layers of bubble wrap. The box the set is in is quite large, and nicely sturdy. It has a sort of lid that opens up, which I really liked as it means you can store everything for the set in its own box," Louise told us.

But although it was wrapped up nicely on the outside, it wasn't quite so well protected on the inside.

"When I opened the box though everything felt slightly gritty. There wasn't a lot of packaging inside, so all the bits had been moving about loosely within the box," Louise continued.

Build It With Bob Construction Set Review This meant that some of the real clay bricks were slightly damaged and had little chips on them. This really upset Louise's son as he's used to the shiny perfectness of Lego bricks, this was a whole new world for him and at this stage he wasn't keen!

Along with the 70 bricks the Bob the Builder Construction Set comes with a card roof. It's printed with tiles and Pilchard the cat (such a great name for a cat) who's about to pounce on a bird.

"There's also a board for the floor of the house, a paper bag of cement mix, a bowl for mixing it in, a cloth and a little mortar thingie for applying cement to the bricks, and finally, a mat that I guess is meant to help keep the mess contained," reported Louise.

It was the 'guessing' that the mat was supposed to help keep the mess contained that, at this point, had me fearing for Louises flooring and soft furnishings.

"The instruction phamphlet shows you how to layer the bricks up to build a house. I found this a bit puzzling as there's no instructions for applying the cement. So I just stuck some mix in the bowl with a bit of water and hoped for the best. I didn't know how to apply the cement to the bricks, so I just let my son get on with it. Cue one big almighty mess!"

Poor Louise! Her son also found it difficult to understand why he couldn't change his mind about where he'd put the bricks and just move them, the way he does with Lego.

Eventually, Louise turned the pages of the instructions over to discover that the LAST page has find that the last page has the information she was looking for.

"'First, you need to make the cement!' I was not amused. Surely the first step should be the first instructions! Anyway, I had clearly made the cement wrong, using far too much water. So we made a second batch, and this was much better."

Build It With Bob Construction Set Review But be warned, once you've unleashed your own little brick-laying expert you can't take your eyes off them for a second!

"I had to leave the room for TWO seconds and came back to discover a cement a-l-l over the floor because he'd decided he wanted a cement base! That was pretty much the end of the cement that I had in the pack," confessed Louise.

But fear not! The instructions say 'when you want to build something else just soak your building in water and the cement dissolves'.

"I'll have to do that and then give it another go," Louise carried on as it doesn't say what to do for more cement. Maybe you can dry out the residue when it falls to the bottom of the water? I don't know, but I guess I'm going to find out!"

And finally...

Build It With Bob Construction Set Review If you have a child that utterly ADORES Bob the Builder then this is going to have them jumping up and down with joy.

If you're a fearless parent in the face of words like 'real cement' and 'mix with water', it will provide them with a completely different building experience - this is not like fitting lego blocks together, this is REAL building!

Bob the Builder: Build it with Bob 70-piece construction sets retail for £22.99 and is available from Firebox.com, Boots and Mail Order Express.

And about the cement all over the floor?

"It really does dissolve in water and, even after hardening, I was able to get it all off the kitchen lino without leaving any stains or damaging the tiles," Louise concluded; HURRAH!

Bob The Builder: Build It With Bob-30 Brick Set £4.99 @ PLAYThis Bob the Builder: Build it with Bob brick set is the sort of thing that either has you running for the hills OR running to the shop in delight!

  • 30 real clay bricks
  • Cement

Bob The Builder Storybook Collection (20 Books) £9.99 @ The Book PeopleBOB the Builder...can he fix it? BOB the Builder...yes he can! And YOU can fix any present problem for a Bob the Builder fan with this fabulous Bob the Builder storybook collection that's on offer with The Book People!

My cousin's eldest was always into Bob the Builder when he was small; my eldest was more of a Thomas fan so we only got into Bob the Builder when my youngest took a shine to him a few years ago.

But it's with nostalgia that I write this deal as, sadly, Bob's duties in my household have come to an end, as my youngest is now a rabid Star Wars Clone Wars fan and 'Bobber' (as he used to call him) doesn't work with a light saber - shame on him!

I spent many a bedtime hour reading Bob the Builder books and we built up the collection a couple of books at a time, whenever we wandered past Waterstones in town. I'm not even going to work out how much that cost all together, but one thing's for sure - it was more than the £9.99 that it will cost you if you buy them as a collection from The Book People!

Each book has 32 pages of Bob to indulge in and the included titles are as follows...

  • Dizzy and the Talkie-Talkie
  • Bob and the Big Plan
  • Wendy and the Surprise Party
  • Travis and the Tropical Fruit
  • Benny and the Important Job
  • Scruffty and the Goat Hunt
  • Spud and the Funny Trees
  • Pilchard and the Big Surprise
  • Dodger and the Dairy Delivery
  • Muck and the Machine Convoy
  • Scrambler and the Off-road Race
  • Flex and the Fix-it Day
  • Roley and the Woodland Walk
  • Packer and the Difficult Day
  • Sumsy and the Sunflower Spill
  • Scoop and the Bakery Build
  • Gripper, Grabber and the Sports Stadium
  • Lofty and the Singing Stars
  • Bristle and the Big Clean
  • Tumbler and the Skate Park

If you just buy this then the single item shipping cost of £1.95 will apply, rather than the standard £3.95.

Bob The Builder Dancing Bob £9.93 @ Tesco Direct

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 28 August, 2010 at 9:00 am

Bob The Builder Dancing Bob £9.93 @ Tesco DirectHere's a great deal for any young Bob the Builder fan - a dancing Bob the Builder!

My youngest loved Bob the Builder and used to call him 'Bobber' when he really little and couldn't get his tongue around his full name.

Where does the time go?! My youngest starts school next week and my eldest, who was also a Bob the Builder fan (I forget that 'Bobber' has been around for a long time!), starts his last year at school -  I'm much more of an older child parent, but I miss the really cute things like not being able to say Bob the Builder properly *sigh*

Anyway, I digress!

Bob The Builder Dancing Bob £9.93 @ Tesco DirectSo this dancing Bob the Builder grooves away to his hit song 'Big Fish Little Fish' (I seem to remember it actually achieved a chart position a fair few years ago). This is one of the most amusing things to me, way back in the day I went to the odd rave weekend and of course we all did the obligatory BF-LF-CB moves, so to see Bob the Builder doing those moves is just too funny.

Dancing Bob is suitable for little groovers aged three years and upwards, he comes with his necessary 2AA batteries and has been reduced from £19.07 down to £9.93.

Happy Dancing!
