Top Stocking Filler Bargains For Children

by Lynley Oram in Features on 28 November, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Top Stocking Filler Bargains For ChildrenI did a Santa box last year, instead of a stocking or Santa sack, but the principle is the same. This was a sturdy, silver covered present box that I'd bought at WH Smiths, I think. Inside it was filled with all his stocking filler presents, individually wrapped. The advantage of the box (and why I thought of it) was that all the little bits could be popped back in there to keep from getting lost in the unwrapping frenzy.

Last year on PlayPennies we talked about the amount of money we would spend on the stocking fillers. Most people seemed to have a budget of around £20, and felt they were good at sticking to this. The cannier spenders made the money go as far as possible by snapping up bargains.

So here's the top ten hottest toys for children, and by hottest I mean cheapest, that are still in stock. I trawled through the pages of bargains that are posted on our sister site HUKD to find these for you. Read on for cheap stocking filler ideas.

3rd & Bird A Very Squooky Christmas 99p @ Bee.com3rd & Bird is a very lovely little program on Cbeebies, It is a sort of animated show with lots of singing. I can't really describe it better than that! It was popular with me at least when my son was younger as one of the birds is a kiwi. See, that's what a kiwi is - a bird not a fruit! This 3rd & Bird A Very Squooky Christmas is 99p including delivery at Bee.com

What a great stocking filler this will be. There were plenty in stock when I checked, but I'd guess they'll see out fast. There are other titles on there in the same price range and some have already gone out of stock.

Delivery is free across the site, and there are gifts on there for grownups with prices starting at £1.49.

With this DVD you get a double-length Christmas-themed episode. It also contains eight  episodes:

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince £3.98 @ Bee.com

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince £3.98 @ Bee.com

This is the sixth instalment of the Harry Potter series and starts at the end of The Order of the Phoenix. Bee.com is selling the DVD and Blu-ray for £3.98 which is a very good deal indeed.

The special offer on Bee.com does seem exceptionally good for such a recent movie. It looks like it is the DVD and Blu-ray set combined, so you get one disc of each, for less than you’d usually pay just for one of them.

The disc is dispatched within 24 hours which is pretty cool. The DVD covers how the wizarding world is rocked by the fact that Voldemort has truly returned. The only problem is that nobody seems to believe Harry or his friends and he’s in for a rather rough time of it.

The movie is alright, it annoyed me that it didn’t follow the book as well as it could have and yet managed to include random and silly extra scenes that added no particular value. However, as an addition to the set it is a nice low price.

Shrek Quadrilogy £14.99 @ Bee.com

Shrek Quadrilogy £14.99 @ Bee.com

This is another ace deal that would make someone a lovely Christmas present. This is the entire Shrek series – from episode one until episode four – in one lovely gift box. It is only selling for £14.99, which is a pretty darn awesome price for four DVDs, and you can also get some Quidco…

Those of you who have just moved into civilisation from the great white wastes of the Antarctic may not have heard of Shrek so here is a brief summary. Shrek is an ogre with attitude followed around by a funny talking donkey (In the morning I am making waffles!), who saves a princess who is also an ogre but isn’t and they take the mickey out of every, single fairytale known to man.

Got it?

Brilliant. The series is actually beyond brilliant although, the less said about the third movie the better, that one was a real turnip. However, the fourth movie reinvigorated the series something chronic and was hilarious from start to finish. This is well worth the price at only £14.99 for four (or three) excellent movies.

Fireman Sam Jupiter Boxset £13.99 @ Bee.com

Fireman Sam Jupiter Boxset £13.99 @ Bee.com

Bee.com has marked the Fireman Sam Jupiter box set down from £30.49 to £13.99 which is a darn good deal for a bunch of ace episodes for kids to enjoy any time they want.

The Fireman Sam Jupiter box set is actually pretty cute. You get the DVDs inside a little box designed like a giant fire engine with all the cast and crew peeking out the windows and the back of the truck. It is easy open and easy store, so you can keep the DVDs together and not get that “oh bother where is that movie” feeling.

The series included in the box set are To the Rescue, Saves the Day, Let it Snow, Fun Run, The Big Freeze, On Stage, The New Hero, Next Door, Red Alert, Sticky Situation and Towering Inferno. That is all the information that they have on the site but I am pretty sure you should get more if you are supposed to be paying around £30 instead of this low price.

Doctor Who Series 2 £6.99 @ Bee.com

Doctor Who Series 2 £6.99 @ Bee.com

Bee.com has really started to deliver some fantastic bargains lately, especially for fans of DVD box sets and TV series. Their latest discount, the Doctor Who Season 2 set, is no exception. They are selling the complete second series for £6.99 when it normally sells for £69.99. Bargain.

Bee.com also offer free delivery and free returns, so your purchase price of £6.99 for Doctor Who is all you pay. This is a fantastic saving of £63 – almost 90% off the original retail price.

I know that I’ve really wanted to collect the Doctor Who series for my daughter as she utterly adores it. In fact, Doctor Who has a very big following in her Reception year class and they’re all counting down to the start of the next season with great excitement.

However, I haven’t been able to collect them because I refuse to pay almost £70 for only 13 episodes of a TV show. I can’t understand why a show produced locally costs so much when I can pay £20 for a USA series! Anyway, ranting aside, this price is far more reasonable and it is for one of the best seasons in the David Tennant range of Doctor Who’s.

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy £11.99 @ Bee.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 28 January, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy £11.99 @ Bee.com

Remember how excited we all were when George Lucas announced the release of three more Star Wars movies? Remember how disappointed we all were? Well, even if you’re a die-hard fan of the original three, kids love these movies and £11.99 is a great price for all three from Bee.com.

The prequel series follows the rise of Anakin Skywalker until he turns into the very nasty (Noooooo!) Darth Vader. The series is alright. I enjoyed the action, the special effects and the fun of it all, myself. But then, even as a massive fan, I wasn’t that precious about the Star Wars universe and didn’t mind Jar Jar Binks that much.

On the other hand, Anakin’s turn from good to bad is just ridiculous really, and that is what killed the ending of the final movie for me. Still, no matter what your feelings on the subject, this is a collection completer and is a really low price for all three movies. It also comes with free delivery.
