  • Discount: 20%
  • Promotional code: TREAT20
  • Expires: 6th August 2012

This Brantano promotional code can only be used online. With past Brantano discount codes, I've found that I need to go through the checkout process . When you get to page three, enter it in the Promotional Code box and click submit. If it works, you'll see it applied immediately to your order.

I don't normally like to buy children's shoes online, but there is a nice range of shoes and boots on there. And there's a good range of accessories and bags. I tested the code out on two bags, one of which was reduced by 50% in the sale, and it worked just fine.

My Melody Bag Bargains @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 19 June, 2012 at 12:00 pm

My Melody Bag Bargains @ Home BargainsMy youngest niece has a real thing for bags; as long as that continues none of the family will ever be stuck for something to buy her!

If you have a little girl in your family who's barmy for bags the you might want to take a look at the My Melody bag bargains up for grabs at Home Bargains.

Click HERE to take a look at the My Melody bag bargains

I hadn't encountered 'My Melody' before today and couldn't help but draw comparisons between her and Hello Kitty.  A couple of minutes spent interrogating my good friend Google (what did we do before 'him'?!) quickly revealed that she's from the same home as Hello Kitty.

My Melody is a little bunny who wears a floppy hat over her bunny ears; her favourite hobby is baking cookies, her favourite food is almond pound cake (I wonder if she bakes that herself too) and her best friend is a mouse called Flat <---- so now we know!

There are three My Melody items up for grabs at Home Bargains for good prices at the moment:

  • A My Melody back pack for £2.99 instead of £14.99
  • A My Melody tote bag for £2.59 rather than its original £12.99 and
  • A My Melody shoulder bag for £2.99, its full price is £14.99

If you live near a Home Bargains you'll be able to collect your My Melody things in-store for free, otherwise you'll need to pay between 99 pence and £2.99 for home delivery.

Head Girl’s Flower Print Backpack £6.99 @ Sainsbury’s

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 12 May, 2012 at 11:00 am

Head Girl’s Flower Print Backpack £6.99 @ Sainsbury’s

There’s a nice round £10 saving on the Head Girl’s Flower Print Backpack at Sainsbury’s right now. At £6.99, with free Click & Collect, it’s a bargain, and even adding £3.95 for standard delivery, it’s not too bad a price.

This is a rucksack styled backpack and the reviewers have used it for everything from school bags to sports bags to hand luggage or day bags whilst travelling.  It has a rating of 4.5 out of five, but that’s probably a bit skewed due to comments like the 2 star rating by Samanta, who says “bought it to go on holiday, very happy about that. many different pockets for everything, and it looks very feminine.”  That sounds like it should rate more than 2 stars, really!

A big pro that people list is that it has plenty of pockets making it useful for storing things like passports, money and so on.

Apparently it’s also very light-weight at 500g, making it an ideal backpack as it’s not too heavy to start off with.

And with its black and pink flowers, it’s feminine without being too girly, which a lot of the reviewers liked.

Radley Promotional Code: 20% Off

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 30 August, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Radley Promotional Code: 20% OffFancy a new handbag? OK so I am a bit nuts about a new bag. There's just something so nice and comforting knowing that you have the perfect bag with you. I guess the real question is, can I afford a new handbag? Or can I justify buying one? Actually right now the answer is yes. And if the same applies to you, use this Radley promotional code to get 20% off their range of handbags. You will have to be a bit quick about it though, the code finishes tomorrow.

Click here to use your Radley promotional code

  • Discount: 20%
  • Promotional code: BANKHOL20
  • Expires: 31st August 2011

To use this code, go to the Shopping Basket page and enter it in the Promotional Code box. It will be applied automatically to your order.

One thing that I discovered about this site is that the prices don't include VAT. I tested the code out on a really lovely Circus Dog Tote Bag, which has a design re-worked from the V&A archive. This was priced at £18 (pre-VAT) and the code took that down to £14.40. Standard delivery on this site does cost £5, which I think is pricey compared to other sites.

Click here to use your Clarks Shoes promotional code

  • Promotional code: BEYOURS
  • Expires: 2nd of October 2011

To use this code, go to Checkout and enter it in the Promotion code box. You will need to either sign in or register with the site first.

I tested this code out on a luscious leather shoulder bag, with the unlikely name of Truly Tonic. This has a price tag of £44.99. The code took this down by £9, to £35.99. OK still more than I can really afford to pay these days, but it is a good price for a nicely made, leather handbag.

Happy Tree Friends Messenger Bags £2.99 @ Play

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 July, 2011 at 11:00 am

Happy Tree Friends Messenger Bags £2.99 @ PlayPlay are currently selling these Happy Tree Friends messenger bags for £2.99, instead of £9.99.

I have no idea who Happy Tree Friends are - and I don't have time to do a quick bit of Google research today - but I do know that I rather like them!

They're bright, they're fun, they're more than a little quirky - rather than frilly, fruffy and a bit girly - and they're a great price too.

Both have had reviews left for them on Play and both people say that these bags are actually quite big.

HUGE and MASSIVE were the words used...

"I thought this bag would be a reasonable size but it is massive inside, I'm thinking you could use a small overnight bag or even as a picnic bag."

"I received the bag in the post very quickly and when id got it out of the packaging i was not expecting it to be that big! IT IS HUGE! The site needs to add bag size as i thought it was a small messenger bag for essentials, but you could easily fit 2 to 3 folders plus in there with room! ANYWAY, its great quality and a great price. 4 stars for the lack of sizing."

So if you're looking for a small satchel, then maybe these aren't the bags for you.  But if you're after something bigger and a bit quirky, then I reckon these could be a winner.

Puma Khaki Canvas Bag £5.94 @ Debenhams

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 8 July, 2011 at 11:00 am

Puma Khaki Canvas Bag £5.94 @ DebenhamsIf you're looking for a smallish bag, that's understated and not remotely girly, or floral, then this Puma khaki canvas bag will tick all those boxes.

I'm not a big bag fan - in both senses of the word; the bigger they are the more unnecessary junk I tend to carry around with me.

When you have babies, you HAVE to carry a lot of baby paraphernalia around with you and, thus, an enormous changing bag is necessary.

But when your young babies are more grown-up, the less you need to cart around like some sort of pack horse and your hand bag will often be ok for slinging in the odd packet of mini wipes etc.

But what if you're a man going out with his kids?

My youngest's dad has a 'man bag' (my youngest thinks this is hilarious) that isn't too dissimilar to this Puma bag actually, it's small enough not to be obtrusive but big enough to carry what he wants to in it.

I really quite fancy one of these myself for when I need to carry things, but where my handbag is completely inappropriate.

In fact, I'm going to order one as soon as I've written this post - the original price was £22 and if you use the following codes the price will come right down to £5.94 AND you'll get free home delivery too: PXLP for 10% off and codes SHVC or SHD1 for free delivery.

Original Satchel Store Review

by Sarah Macdonald in Reviews on 10 December, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Original Satchel Store ReviewI can't help it - say the word 'satchel' to me and I think of Vincent who I sat next to in my infants school class.

So I was rather intrigued to see whether the satchel from the Original Satchel Store we sent out to PlayPennies mum, Tracy, really was, and I quote, 'bang up-to-date' in its various moody Autumn colours.

Can there really be a cool, trendy and sophisticated modern spin on the old classic school bag!? (I still can't get the image of Vincent and his satchel out of my head).

"Ohhhh, I can’t wax lyrical about this product enough! This satchel is beautiful!" gushed Tracy, she's not one to underplay things or beat around the bush!

And this about a review copy which wasn't completely finished - it didn’t have the glossy shine that you'll see on the satchels on the Original Satchel Store website.

We made Tracy aware of this and and she didn't mind.

"I have to secretly admit that I rather prefer it the lack of shine, it gives it more of rugged look and the smell. OH MY, the smell. How I ADORE the smell of leather!"

I can totally relate to that and have spent far too long in shops sniffing all things leather; chamois leathers are a particular favourite and they're so s o f t too...but I digress!

I'm one of these girls who deliberately keeps my handbag small otherwise I'd end up carrying my entire life around with me. Tracy told us that the satchel is rather like a leather Tardis, being deceptively roomy for its size.

Original Satchel Store Review"I am quite a hoarder and tend to stuff loads of things into one bag and then spend hours and hours scuffling around in there to find them again.

This doesn’t stop the scuffling but, and this is a biggie, it is ideal for my iPad, Kindle and netbook. I can fit all three of them in at once if I don’t put anything else in. Or just two of them and some lippy, perfume and mobile."

We chose Tracy to review the satchel from the Original Satchel Store on purpose, as she's a self-confessed bagaholic.

She's has more bags than...well, more bags than your average bag shop and she's very particular; we knew the Original Satchel Store satchel was going to have to seriously prove itself, or die trying!

"The other thing about this chap is the way it looks. No matter WHAT I am wearing it works with it. How many bags can you say that about?

Yeah, thought not. I usually have bags for fun, bags for business, bags for out etc." See, told you...

There are three sizes of satchel for you to choose from 28cms satchel (£65), 33cms (£70) or the big 38cms version which costs £77.

"They are quite expensive but, honestly, worth every penny," Tracy told us, "The stitching is superb and the finish is lovely. Even if mine wasn’t the ultimate finished product you can see it will last and last and last; it has become my nearest and dearest for the school run!"

Original Satchel Store ReviewThe Original Satchel Store tell us that they only use the highest grade British leather and fixings for their satchels; traditional-style buckles are used as closures, which make the satchel secure, and the straps adjust able so they fit different shaped bodies.

We asked Tracy to give the satchel a proper run for its money and not to just sit and stroke it, we wanted to make sure it was robust enough to stand up to the most rigourous abuse.

"I LOVE this satchel so much, that being mean to it made me cry.

But in the line of duty I stood on it and pulled the handle (I wish you knew how HARD that was for me but I did it), I  jumped on it, dropped it, kicked it and sat on it. It is still solid as ever, I'm VERY impressed!"

And finally...

Well, there's not really much more to add to that is there!

Tracy is utterly smitten with her Original Satchel Store satchel and whilst she acknowledges it's not the cheapest bag in the world, she feels it's absolutely worth the investment.

"It will definitely last for years and years and then some more years after that, even if you are asked to abuse it," Tracy concludes.

Abuse of YOUR satchel is optional, of course, and it would seem that, YES, the satchel IS cool and bang up-to-date ; as far as Tracy is concerned everyone should have one.
