Fireman Sam Scooter £14.99 @ Argos

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 8 February, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Fireman Sam Scooter £14.99 @ Argos

Argos has reduced this cute Fireman Sam scooter down from £34.99 to only £14.99 which is less than half the original price. It comes with all sorts of Fireman Sam related accessories and is a bright red streak of scooting fun.

The Fireman Sam scooter features a water filled pump action firehose that can be removed and used as a backpack. Although I don’t think anyone is going to be using water as a fun activity outdoors at the moment, it is sooo cold.

The Fireman Sam scooter is made from steel and plastic and has three wheels – one at the front and two at the back – for extra balance and support. The tyres have been designed to withstand puncturing and the base of the scooter has an anti-slip feature.

The handles are designed to be easy grip and the handlebar is height adjustable so it can grow with your child. The Fireman Sam scooter is for children aged three years and over and will need some assembly.

Pukka Pads Ring Binder Bundle £1.69 @ Argos

Pukka Pads Ring Binder Bundle £1.69 @ Argos

This is a very handy back to school deal that gets you a Pukka Pads ring binder bundle for only £1.69 instead of the original £4, a price that is well below half the original one. You can reserve and collect the ring binder set instore to save on the heavy delivery charges.

The Pukka Pads ring binder bundle includes a notebook, a pencil case and a ring binder in one simple set. The pad and the ring binder are covered in white and pink dots on a black background while the pencil case is see through with dots running along the side.

I think you also get a spotty pen actually, certainly the picture includes one, so this may have even more goodies in it for this low price than it says on the site. These sets are ace for storing all those school pictures and drawings your kids make, keeping them safe for posterity.

The Usborne Children’s World Atlas £1.99 @ Argos

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 3:00 pm

The Usborne Children’s World Atlas £1.99 @ Argos

I am frankly astonished by this deal. What a lovely bargain. This Usborne Children’s World Atlas is down from £8.99 to only £1.99 which is not only a whopping saving on the original price but also a really awesome book to have.

The Usborne Children’s World Atlas has internet links littered throughout the book. We bought the encyclopaedia version just after Christmas this year and it is really, really good. Each section comes with a bunch of internet links that show you even more videos, information, pictures and stories about the stuff on the page.

My daughter loves hers, she takes it with her when we go out and tells us all about the things inside it. We’re even learning things here! The book has 60 pages of maps along with introductions to the continents, satellite photography, and lots of facts about the various countries.

The Usborne Children’s World Atlas at this price is a complete and utter steal.

Cute Hairstyles For Girls 101

Cute Hairstyles For Girls 101

Last week I wrote a feature on funky things to do for free for Valentine’s Day and I got a lot of emails from people who loved the hairstyle idea in the piece. In fact, so many people responded to it that I thought I’d deviate from the Valentine’s Day drama and head for a feature that looks at some of the best hairdo sites on the web,

Of course, I didn’t just choose these sites because they had cool hairstyles for girls, I chose them based on their level of practicality and the expense involved in getting the equipment needed together. For almost every single hairstyle I have found here you can do it with a rat-tail comb, hairbands, a hairbrush, bobby pins and a spray bottle. Nothing more. Although hairspray never goes amiss… and this excludes accessories like ribbons etc. All easily achieved on a budget of under £10.

Ozbozz Nebulus TX Scooter Blue Or Pink £7.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 30 January, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Ozbozz Nebulus TX Scooter Blue Or Pink £7.99 @ Play.com

If you fancy getting your kids some scooters to zoom their way to playgroup or school without spending an absolute fortune, then these are the ones for you. Available in either pink or blue, the Ozbozz Nebulus TX scooters are good quality and do what they should and only cost £7.99 at Play.com right now.

The Ozbozz Nebulus TX scooters usually cost around £10.99 but this discount, plus the free delivery, means you can get two for only a little over the price of one. Great for those of you who have lovely big families!

I have reviewed some of the Ozbozz scooters in the past and I found them very sturdy and reliable. While they are solid metal and as tough as old boots they don’t offer the same soft and elegant lines as the MicroScooters do, but they are almost 100% cheaper.

A great buy, especially with the folding down mechanism for easy storage, that can be adjusted to cope with kids over the age of five.

Peppa Pig Filled Backpack £2.50 @ Matalan

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 21 December, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Peppa Pig Filled Backpack £2.50 @ Matalan

This is pretty good value for a backpack, especially one smothered in Peppa Pig branding and filled with all sorts of ace goodies. It would make someone a lovely Christmas gift if you quickly hastened over to Matalan to nab it over the next few days.

The Peppa Pig filled backpack used to cost £10 but is now down to only £2.50. You can also get this in the Disney Princess flavour if your little one prefers them to the popular piglet. The backpack itself doesn’t come with any info on the site but looks pretty sturdy and the design covers the entire front.

Inside the Peppa Pig backpack you will find some crayons and colouring in pages as well as an unidentifiable something that I can’t figure out from the picture. I mean, the site doesn’t tell you what is inside the filled Peppa Pig backpack so I am guessing from the images.

Overall, £2.50 is an excellent price for what could be a lovely Christmas stocking filler or in-car entertainment for long Christmas journeys.

Portable Kids/Adults Pink Laptop Tray £4.99 @ Argos

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 19 December, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Portable Kids/Adults Pink Laptop Tray £4.99 @ Argos

The Argos portable kids laptop tray in pink is a good sized device that’s rather handy and clever, especially for this lovely new low price. Here it is down from £9.99 to only £4.99, which is half the original price. Free collection from instore but heavy delivery charges apply.

To avoid the usual burning legs and painful postures that the lack if a laptop tray will bring, here is the portable pink kids laptop tray to save the day. It has an integrated handle and a knee cushion built in (you can’t see that on the image), and is about 59x40cm in size.

The portable laptop tray is also 5.5cm high so storage shouldn’t be too much of a problem when you’re not using this beauty and the colour makes it a great gift for a technically minded girl. The price is pretty good but it is also only valid until 24 December so if you want it, get it now.

33% Off Launch @ Tute.com

33% Off Launch @ Tute.com

Tutors Direct is a brand, shiny, new website that gives you access to a library of videos that have been designed to show parents how kids are taught at school along with expert answers to homework problems, access to accredited teachers and more. You can now get a 15 month subscription for only £50 as part of their launch offer.

I love, love, love this site. I’ve had some real problems trying to get more information from our school as to how they are teaching my kids. They are vague and a bit difficult to get answers out of, making it very hard for me to help my child get the most out of her education.

What I love about this site, other than the fact that the price is very low for such a great resource, is that you have instant videos that explain everything to parents. You also get help with homework, a tutor who can either teach your child face to face or online, and plenty more. I am going to dive into this site for sure, especially with this fab special offer.

Oregon Scientific Little Learning Laptop £8.74 @ Argos

Oregon Scientific Little Learning Laptop £8.74 @ Argos

I am honestly not sure about these laptops that go on sale for kids as many of them turn out to be pretty awful. However, for some these may well be an excellent choice as a Christmas gift for a niece or nephew and this particular kids laptop at £8.74 is a pretty good deal.

The Oregon Little Learning kids laptop provides your kids with lots of learning fun. Pre-schoolers can take part in 32 different interactive activities that have been designed to boost skills in maths, logic and vocabulary.

This kids laptop provides interactive learning fun and teaches things like the alphabet, numbers and colour recognition and comes with a simple A-Z keyboard so they can learn to navigate it as well. There are five double-sided interactive cards with rear storage supplied and six coloured pens. It comes with the three AA batteries required to run it and it is suitable for kids over the age of three.

Toy Story 3 Heroes Backpack £2.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 14 November, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Toy Story 3 Heroes Backpack £2.99 @ Play.com

Still looking for sweet and stupendous Christmas presents? Well, Play has marked the Toy Story 3 backpack down from £9.99 to £2.99 including free delivery. Not a bad price for an ace backpack that can do well for school, life and sleepovers.

The Toy Story 3 kid’s backpack is just what it says on the tin – a backpack with the Toy Story 3 characters on it. The main image is of Buzz Lightyear with Woody, Jessie and Rex running along the base. The writing says Heroes in Training.

It’s a very sweet little gift that won’t cost much and will make some kids very happy indeed. I have definitely nabbed two for the birthday party circuit and will be wrapping up another two as Christmas gifts for friends and family kids. I know my daughter will love it!

There isn’t much info on the site about straps or compartments or wotnot but it seems like a stonking good deal to me.

Doctor Who Kid’s Backpack £3.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 10 November, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Doctor Who Kid’s Backpack £3.99 @ Play.com

Oooh, now this is an awesome deal from Play.com. Here you have a very tasty Doctor Who backpack for only £3.99 instead of the original £9.99. Now I have spent ages hunting for a decently priced Doctor Who backpack for my daughter because she is such a fan and this is the best price I have seen.

The Doctor Who backpack is big enough and (hopefully) sturdy enough to tackle the rigours of school without breaking a sweat. And perhaps the image of the Doctor waving his sonic screwdriver will put off any potential thieves.

There is absolutely zero information about the backpack itself. We know it was almost a tenner, that it is now under £4, that delivery is free, and that there are plenty in stock. The image looks ace, as does the blue piping, and I can only assume it has adjustable straps.

This looks like a fab Christmas gift for any kid who loves Doctor Who, and I am definitely going to nab one for mine.

Disney Pixar Cars 2 Backpack £3.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 10 November, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Disney Pixar Cars 2 Backpack £3.99 @ Play.com

This is a pretty good deal from Play.com, especially if you want to nab some ace Cars 2 merchandise as cool Christmas gifts this year. The Cars 2 backpacks, there are two different designs on offer, are down from £9.99 to only £3.99 which is a whopping saving.

The Disney Pixar Cars 2 backpacks are available in the standard backpack design – that whole rectangle type thing with images on the front – or as a tyre shaped backpack with different images on it. We have reviewed similar Cars 2 backpacks to these on PlayPennies so take a look and see if they suit your needs!

The Cars 2 backpacks will be sent to your front door for free and are made from PVC with adjustable shoulder straps and they have different pictures printed onto the backs. They don’t come with any internal pockets I don’t think, though, but as these are quite similar to the other Cars 2 backpacks I doubt it.

3 Pack Girls Non-Iron Long Sleeve School Blouses £3 @ M&S

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 25 October, 2011 at 6:00 pm

3 Pack Girls Non-Iron Long Sleeve School Blouses £3 @ M&S

This is an excellent deal for those of you who have little ones going to school and are in need of an updated winter wardrobe. These packs of shirts come in two colours – white and grey – and are available in quite a few sizes still. At the price of £3 for three shirts, you are paying a very tasty £1 per school shirt at M&S.

The three pack of girls shirts at M&S are also the lovely non-iron variety. Now I happen to own some of these and while they don’t pop out of the washing machine looking as if they’ve been starched by a pro, they are a lot less creased and troublesome than the usual shirt. A huge plus for me as I just cannot iron.

The process of nabbing these is quite simple. Click on the colour you want (grey or white), select your size and quantity and then go. In the grey colour (ignore the picture that insists they are blue)there are very few sizes left with many out of stock, but the white has lots left and lots of sizes to choose from.

LeapFrog Tag And Tag Junior £12.49 @ ELC

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 11 October, 2011 at 6:00 pm

LeapFrog Tag And Tag Junior £12.49 @ ELC

Well, yesterday I found a bunch of LeapFrog goodies at low prices but this one really knocks their socks off. ELC has marked the LeapFrog Tag sets down to only £12.49 which is really low compared to other places even with the extra delivery charges.

Usually the LeapFrog Tag sets cost around £24.99, so with a discount like this, even with nearly £5 in delivery charges, you have saved some cash. It may be worth calling your local store to find out if they have any in stock and what they are selling them for if you fancy saving even more money.

The LeapFrog Tag sets, both Junior and standard, are ideal for teaching kids to read along with puzzles and memory games to help them build their skills. They are fun for both parents and kids to use together and are excellent for encouraging them to get stuck into their learning.

Disney Cars 2 Tyre Bag Review

by Tamsin Oxford in Reviews on 10 October, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Disney Cars 2 Tyre Bag Review

My daughter was recently invited to a birthday party by a…boy! Yes, I had to go out and find some kind of present for the young male persuasion and I had absolutely no clue what to get him. What do boys like? Pet worms?

Fortunately I have friends with male offspring so I fired off some emails. The message was clear – anything to do with cars or Cars (one being the vehicle and the other being the movie). So I went out and bought a Disney Cars 2 Tyre bag.

No, this isn’t a bag for carrying real tyres, as funny as that may be, but rather a clever idea that boys love. In fact, the boy I gave this to utterly adored his and soon as many of his other presents as he could fit inside the bag where, in fact, inside.

The bag is made from the usual polyester nylon vibe with a bright Cars 2 image on the front that’s really quite shiny. The zip zoots around the entire circumference of the bag which is, as you’ve probably gathered by now, shaped like a tyre.

Inside the bag there are no compartments or extras, you are just getting a bag with a Disney Cars 2 logo. The bag itself is well made, the stitching robust (although it will be worth checking in with the mum of aforementioned boy in a few months time) and the image taking up the entire front of the bag.

It is definitely good quality and would make a lovely school bag or gym bag for any kid crazy about cars or Cars.

The only down side is the price, I think. Paying nearly £8 for this without any extras is quite steep even though I know you are paying the Disney royalties. A good bag, a great present, a high price.

LeapFrog Tag Reading System Pink & Green £22.49 @ Argos

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 10 October, 2011 at 4:00 pm

LeapFrog Tag Reading System Pink & Green £22.49 @ Argos

The LeapFrog Tag Reading System is down 25% at Argos from the usual price of £29.99. While not an utterly enormous discount, this is still a decent saving on a great product. And you can arrange to collect instore to save on delivery charges too.

The LeapFrog Tag Reading System is great for teaching kids how to read and to get them involved in the process. I have one of these and have spent some truly awesome hours with my child as she’s worked her way through the books and built her reading skills right up. It is definitely a great educational tool.

I’ll be the first to admit that the LeapFrog Tag series is expensive but when you consider the technology that has gone into it, and how well it works, I think it is worth the cost. The device is touched to the pages of the Tag storybooks and the characters speak as the story comes to life. There are a ton of features like games, puzzles and reading tests and it would make an ace Christmas gift.

LeapFrog LeapPad £59.99 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 7 October, 2011 at 3:00 pm

LeapFrog LeapPad £59.99 @ Amazon

This is a nifty little gift for a special little girl. The LeapPad from LeapFrog is apparently one of the Must Have Gifts of 2011 and it is on sale, in pink, on Amazon for £59.99 instead of the usual £79.99. This is by no means cheap, but it still a good discount.

The LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer tablet is pink, takes ages to get delivered (you’re looking at a month’s wait here) and has been all over the media as THE thing to own. It’s an educational table for kids with a built-in camera, video recorder and a huge library of games.

The LeapPad comes with innovative apps that inspire creativity and turn reading into fun and games. It has a 5” high res touch screen that kids can either use their fingers or the stylus to navigate. It can be customised, can store several apps at once, and is all about education.

I’ve not used one of these yet, I am hoping to review one I’ve bought and will let you know whether it is worth the dosh. Unless you have one already? If so, what is it like?
