Down from a very expensive £21.99, this Lamaze toy is a fabulous deal at only £11.59 including free delivery. This toy will let baby make merry music and even comes with (wait for it) a song book and a soft vanilla scent.
I am intrigued by this new trend in scented toys. First (well, that I heard of) is the almost impossible to find, and extremely expensive, Lotso Bear from Toy Story 3. Apparently that bear smells of strawberries. The thing is, I love the idea but how long will the smell realistically last?
In our house toys need a jolly good wash or a wipe every month (at the very least – the popular ones are weekly) so won’t any form of cleaning remove the yummy smell and therefore the entire reason you spent nearly £50 on a stuffed toy? This is my question of the week.
Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes, the Lamaze Octotunes. So this toy is for 0-2 years old and is designed to stimulate baby’s imagination and senses. Each tentacle makes a different note and you can play lines from some of your favourite nursery rhymes.

These hangers from M&S are truly adorable and have been marked down to a palatable £2. I must admit that initially I was wary of posting this deal because they really do seem like a frivolity rather than a necessity. I certainly wouldn’t have paid the original £9.50 for two hangers, no matter how cute they are.
Your £2 gets you two wooden hangers with adorable designs on them and that measure out at 31×14x3cm. The hangers sport either a zebra or giraffe motif. They are really cute actually, and they fit into my idea of the Dream Nursery that has everything co-ordinated and beautiful. Sadly, my nursery wasn’t like that, although I did get the colours to match!
Personally I wouldn’t buy these for myself but, at this price, I would get them for a mum who was expecting as a cute little gift to make her smile. The original price is just insane though. Who pays £10 for two hangers? Surely that would mean spending at least £100 to get enough for a basic wardrobe?

I love, love, LOVE it when Sainsbury’s make all their baby toiletries half price!
I’m not sure whether this applies to all Sainsbury’s stores ‘in the real’ but in virtual internet land it’s half price deals a-go-go! And although this offer runs until Tuesday 3 August, I wouldn’t hang around as the terms also state that the offer is subject to stock availablility too.
When The Teenagers were small I used to keep a very beady eye open for deals like this – with two small children just a year apart in age, I used to get through an obscene amount of baby wipes.
I still keep half an eye open for half price baby toiletries offers because, quite frankly, baby wipes have to be one of the most useful inventions known to man and it just makes economic sense to stock up when you can!
My favourite? Johnson’s Baby Skincare Wipes and a pack of four will only cost you £2.44 instead of £4.88.
There are lots of other Johnson’s toiletry products on offer – baby lotion (another permanent feature in my house), bedtime bath and grab a few of these if you can – Johnson’s Soothing Naturals lotion – because it’s LOVE-R-LY and has been reduced from £1.94 down to 97p!!
And just quickly – the parents’ favourite, Sudocreme, is also on offer – £1.78 for the big 250g pot.
If this offer isn’t running in your local Sainsbury’s then standard delivery is just £3.95.

The Baby Store at Amazon has loads of stuff that you can nab for your teeny tot, or tottering toddler. They have maternity equipment, nursery decor, essential kit, travelling essentials and more. And until 25 July, they are slapping some lovely discounts on selected items.
There are several different categories included in the sale with discounts ranging from 10 percent, all the way up to 50 percent. But hurry on over, Amazon tend to run out of stock pretty quickly and then suddenly the price returns to the original one before the discount!
Included are; selected Cosatto high chairs, new Hoppop equipment, 25% off Okiedog changing bags, 41% off the Tomy Walkabout Platinum Digital baby monitor, and selected toys. Fans of the Trunki range of suitcases will be delighted to see that the Trunki Tipu the Tiger ride-on suitcase has had five percent taken off, taking it down to £33.25.
Also included are pushchairs, breastpumps, distance monitors, learning toys and baby mats, and car seats. I hope you can find something you need here, or perhaps get a much needed pressie for a friend about to have a baby.

Only £1.62 for a tee? You’re kidding? Nope, Debenhams have this on sale and there are even some other items lurking in the store for the same great price. I would recommend adding extra items to your basket to justify the heavy delivery charge (shame on you Debenhams!).
This is a very cute T and is so worthy of a mention here at PlayPennies. It features popper fastenings on the shoulders (verrry handy for when you get those enormous poos that require complete baby overhaul), and is both machine washable and tumble dryer safe.
The tee is made from 100% cotten and you can match it with a Yum as Mum tee that’s down to the same low price. You may have to pay slightly more for the bigger sizes though, so be warned.

Nappies, the one thing we can never stock up on enough. While I chose to go the reusable nappy route, many mums just can’t do it and so these deals will hopefully help you stock up and keep your finances happy at the same time. For the new mum, this tow for £6 deal at Boots is lovely.
The New Baby Size 1 carry pack includes 27 nappies that boast the revolutionary DryMax technology. The deal will land you two of these for £6 when the usual retail price is £3.74 for one. A nice saving of just over a pound per set of two.
These nappies are for babies weighing 2-5 kilos, and are supposed to be super soft and dry. I can’t remember which nappy brand I preferred for emergencies but I think Pampers were one of my favourites. I didn’t take the reusables with me when I was out for a long time as they were just too much hassle (and too whiffy).
So, enjoy this deal and get stocking up!

Cheap as chips. Although a lot of things could be described like that on the PlayPennies site, this is actually the first time I’ve said so. And that’s because it really is quite true. This t-shirt is an absolute, adorable, bargain. Debenhams have reduced down the BlueZoo Grey As Cool as Mum t-shirt to £1.62.
Delivery costs a big fat zero, if you use code SHX8 or SHD1. What I love about this t-shirt is that the BlueZoo stuff (which is a Debenham’s own brand of clothing) is really well made. This item appears to be made of a good quality material – not thin and it won’t go sideways in the wash. You know, where the poorer quality t-shirt material refuses to line up at the seams when you iron it, making it impossible to fold properly to put away.
But best of all is the motif. A nice, big, very lickable ice lolly and the slogan ‘As Cool As Mum’. This really tickles me. And while this t-shirt is unisex, it will definitely have a lot more appeal to the mums of boys. Because we just don’t get to have as much fun dressing our babies as the mums of daughters do! I remember that by the time my son was a year old, I was so heartily sick of navy blue, chocolate brown and sober black. Where were the bright colours? The fun details? It isn’t fair!
The BlueZoo Cool As Mum t-shirt is 100 percent cotton, machine washable and it can be tumble dried. There are popper fastenings to the shoulder, which makes it easier to get on and off over baby’s head. It is available in sizes 0-3 months, and 3-6 months.
There is only one thing that bugs me. When DID they start charging £1.60 for a single portion of chips? Wasn’t it just five minutes ago you could get a double portion for 60p?

Ladies and gents I am on a roll this week! Freebies are being uncovered across the interwebs and here lies another delightful deal that will hopefully get you grinning. This free sample pack of QV products includes their amazing moisturiser that is number one in Oz (apparently).
All you have to do is fill in the registration form on the page and they’ll send you a free pack of yummy goodies. Please note that these can only be despatched to UK addresses, so if you live in Ireland then get a UK mate to send you one!
This bumper freebie gift has come about because QV are launching in the UK and are trying to get as many people involved as possible. You never know, these products may be better than anything you’ve used before.
In fact, I am dying to know what you mums with babies think of these products so, if you do order this freebie, then please pop back on here and let me know. It would be good to hear your reviews.

Tesco are about to launch their new and improved range of Tesco Super Fit Nappies that are slimmer, lighter and less bulkier than ever before. They are offering the Super Fit Economy Packs at two for £10 so if you’re looking to bulk up on nappies then now is your chance.
These nappies have had the bulk between the legs reduced, making it easier for baby to putter along and climb. They use ultra-absorbent Maxi Dry technology which offers protection against leaks. It’s really cute, actually, because Tesco chose two babies from their parent panel to model the nappies for the new packaging.
It must be quite awesome to have your tot be the “face” of a nappy brand. Well, I think so, anyway. Certainly since this didn’t mean putting your child onto the books of an agency (which is something I really don’t like, but that’s just me).
Tesco Super Fit nappies are available in: Midi (4-9kgs/9-20lbs), Maxi (7-18kgs/15-40lbs), Maxi Plus (9-20kgs/20-44lbs), Junior (11-25kgs/24-55lbs) and Junior Plus (13-27kgs/29-60lbs), a new size added to the range, perfect for toddlers.
They will be available in all Tesco stores and prices range from £3.99 for the 32 pack to £6.49 for the Super Fit Economy Packs (so you get a great bargain on their launch offer). Oh, and to find the nappies you’ll need to log in and then search for them as they locate supplies based on your area. Sigh.

It’s been a long day. You’re tired, you’re fed-up, and you could happily curl into a tiny ball and rock back and forth muttering. The last thing you feel like doing is cooking a healthy meal, or entertaining your tot, or undergoing some rigorous housework.
Think of the theme tune from Friends, “You lost your job, you’re broke, your love life’s DOA.” Hey, even when you’re married the last bit can count if you’ve bitten your other half’s head off just because they said good morning.
So, your day has been crazy , your tot is driving you nuts and you decide to throw caution to the winds and just give them whatever they want. Have you ever just handed over an ice-cream for lunch? Used the TV as a babysitter? I commanded our PlayPennies mums to make their confessions and here are some corkers…
“The phone rang while my son, Jack, was on the toilet one day so I ran to answer it,” confessed Sarah, “I came back 20 minutes later to find him fast asleep with his bum still hanging over the pan. I completely forgot my son!”
Sarah’s confession made us all laugh. I have to admit that even writing it made me laugh. However, a sleep deprived parent is going to end up forgetting all sorts of things. One mum I know went to the shops, did all her shopping and wandered home without her baby in the pram. Her panic was heartbreaking, but fortunately she was well known in the area and her boy was safe and sound when she got there.
Last year my husband and I had a rare bash at our house, a Halloween party that was just fantastic. Unfortunately, the next day we both had such bad hangovers we could barely move or talk. Our poor daughter had the most boring day of her life. We tried to drum up the energy to feel guilty about sticking her in front of the TV for an entire day, but even that was too much hard work.
“I had spent all night working and had literally only crawled into bed at around 5am,” said Lynley, “My husband was away on business, so I had about half an hour’s sleep before my son woke me up. I was so tired that when he asked me if he could have an iced lolly for breakfast, I gave it to him without thinking.”
“I ran out of breakfast things,” said Shirley, “There was absolutely nothing in the house and I had two hungry kids staring at me in dismay. What did I do? I made them custard. Yes, custard for breakfast.”
It isn’t just forgetting food or kids, though; parents have a tendency to get all sorts of things muddled up when they’re busy/tired/all of the above. One of my favourite stories has to be another of Lynley’s…
“I slept in one morning and realised that we were running horribly late for school,” she said, “I was yelling at him non-stop to hurry up, get dressed, we’ve GOT TO GO NOW, only to arrive at the school gates and find them shut. It was an inset day. He’d been trying to tell me…”
Still feeling bad about that one time you happened to do something that you were positive would bring the Parenting Police crashing into your living room? Well, here are some more.
“My best one wasn’t actually with my own child, it was my best friend’s little boy,” said Kelly, “He was about six months old and I was minding him for the day. I gave him his bottle but hadn’t put the lid on properly and, as I fed him, the top came off and emptied the entire contents over his face.
And I laughed. Hysterically. For about ten minutes. So did his mum when I told her. Now he is ten he is quite amused by the tale too.”
Why am I telling you all of this? Because there are some myths that are worth dispelling. Some things you can get away with from time to time and, to be a calm and relaxed parent, sometimes you have to let things slide. Your child’s brain won’t rot because you let them watch TV all afternoon, their teeth won’t give up and leave because they had custard for breakfast, and (we asked him) they probably won’t remember that you let them fall asleep on the loo.
Parenthood is stressful and if you search for guilt on Google you’ll be amazed at how many articles cover a range of topics on why parents shouldn’t feel guilty. So, while there are always those things that we should avoid doing as best we can, try not to beat yourself up if you make a couple of mistakes here and there.

After all, we’re all still here and I’m sure we’ve all had an ice-cream for breakfast at least once.
