It is January. You probably already noticed that. Hard to miss it when all the telltale signs are there. Grey skies, dark afternoons and empty bank accounts. Another clue is all the signs up announcing January sales. Although that's not quite as much an indicator as it used to be. Nowadays, the January sales seem to start in December.

However, here we are coming into the tail end of the sales, and anything that is left is going to go bargain basement. Also, there are stores that do GASP start their sales in January, and others that refresh the stock in the sale section each week. Here's a roundup of the big retailers of baby stuff who are still running sales. Boots, for example, have finished their sales so we've not included them here. Likewise, JoJo Maman Bebe still has its sale section, but the winter sale with up to 75% off seems to be finished now.

Now I know it says '20% off any item' but there's that little * at the end which tells you that's not actually true.

You can't use the voucher for buying nappies or baby milk.

You can't use the voucher to buy ANY toys and you can't use it on anything that' s NOT Babies R Us.

Now I haven't been to Babies R Us for a while so I can't remember how much of their own branded stuff there is - the thing to do is make very sure that you have a Babies R Us something before you head for the checkout, real or virtual.

The good news is the 20% discount applies to the MOST expensive item, rather than the other way round and whilst it says the vouchers are limited to one per customer or family group it doesn't take a genius to figure a way around this if you must.

Tavel system, sling or stroller?! There are so many ways to ferry your little one around it can be tricky to know which way to turn.

Each has their own merit but for me, it was the stroller that became king and got used and abused the most. They’re lightweight, small and can be easier to manouevre around town than their big Range Rover equivalent travel system cousins.

This Graco Century Stroller doesn’t do anything fancy and is suitable for littles ones six months or older as the seat has one position only.

It has a simple umbrella fold, dual suspension with front wheels that swivel and can be locked -  on rough terrain you’ll be glad of this feature – it also has a hood, a shopping basket, padded foam handles and that’s it.

The Graco Century Stroller doesn't do anything fancy, it doesn’t have a load of bells and whistles, you can't plug your MP3 into it (I came across a stroller that had that feature once) and it won't cook the dinner for you,  it’s just a good old-fashioned simple stroller – ideal for slinging in the boot of the car and leaving there ready for when you need it.

This is a particularly good deal with the extremely expensive Moses basket rocking stand from Babies R Us marked down from £24.99 to £12.49. I must be honest, I don’t see why it is worth £25 in the first place, but £12 is fairly reasonable in my book.

I have to say that this is a very sexy looking stand. I got my Moses basket and stand from eBay for less than £30 including postage, so I didn’t have any fancy bells and whistles at all. It just sat there and looked comfortable.

Now THIS guy means that if baby is fretful you can just stick your foot out of the bed and rock her to sleep. You stay warm and toasty and sleepy, baby gets nice and sleepy, and minimal effort was expended on the entire indaba – bonus!

I really like this stand and it looks like it will fit most standard Moses baskets (but make sure before you buy!) and is not too expensive.

I am rather taken aback by this deal. I mean, £14 for a car seat! That’s just brilliant value for money. The car seat colour is called “ice” which makes me laugh a bit, but at least it isn’t an obnoxious colour that will clash with your car interior.

The car seat is ideal from kids over the age of four and comes with side protection, a removable washable cover, an integrated belt guide, a height adjustable headrest, armrests and conforms to safety standard R44/04.

This highchair is covered in a fruity design fabric and folds flat for easy storage and travel. The fabric is wipe-clean and padded with an extra large tray that looks pretty easy to clean without any difficult to reach corners.

All this is pretty good value for money when you consider how expensive these guys are. We got one that was very similar in design but didn’t fold away and it was a total nightmare for storage. And that cost us the same!
