Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature Bottles 2 x 150ml £5.16 @ Asda Direct

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 26 February, 2012 at 11:00 am

Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature Bottles 2 x 150ml £5.16 @ Asda DirectAsda has knocked a third off the cost of this bottle two pack. The Tommee TIppee Closer to Nature bottles, 2 x 150ml, have been reduced from £8.49 to £5.16. Standard delivery is £2.95, so if you're going for home delivery make it part of a bigger order for the best value. However, you can collect them instore for free.

According to the manufacturer, what makes the Closer to nature baby feeding bottles different to other baby bottles is that they come with easivent slow teats made from soft silicone which stretches and flexes to mimic a natural breast feeding action.

You get 2 x 150ml Bottles with Slow Flow Teats. 150ml/5 floz bottles with easivent slow flow teats made from soft silicone designed to mimic a natural breast feeding action, and also featuring a super-sensitive anti-colic valve.

Bottle or breast? Although they say you shouldn't mix the two, as baby will go for one and reject the other, I didn't have that problem. I started using a bottle for one feed when he was 2 weeks old, partly because I needed that sleep and partly because my other half wanted to have some of that time to bond with our son too.

Some of my friends did this successfully too, although they were able to use expressed breast milk. No matter what I did, I never seemed to have anything left over! Despite working with the midwife, the breast feeding 'cafe', and a couple of other breastfeeding experts, nothing I did increased milk production. It just seems like sometimes breast don't work. I compromised with 'half and half', half the feeds were breast feeding and half were formula from a bottle.

Musical Instrument Toys On Sale @ ASDA

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 9 October, 2011 at 11:00 am

Musical Instrument Toys On Sale @ ASDA

Offering the perfect gifts for someone else’s child, ASDA has a range of musical instruments on offer. There are quite a few items to choose from, but here I've looked at three.

The electronic drum kit is reduced from £30 to £20, and has standard delivery set at £2.95. It  features lights so your child can imagine being on a real stage, and includes a headset. The drum kit is made of plastic, has a bass drum, two smaller drums and a cymbal.

The 61 Key Electronic Keyboard at ASDA is down from £40 to £25, and is less a toy than a real instrument, but could be great for a child too. It has the option to mix and match different beats or create your own music – and record them with the playback feature. There are 10 demo songs already programmed in, and you have access to different instrumental sounds to give your music ‘the edge’.

Lastly, there’s the Jam ‘n Keys Guitar Set also down from £30 to £20. The guitar includes a microphone with different buttons for different sounds, a stand and a guitar strap.

Disney Sale On Branded Merchandise @ Asda Direct

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 22 January, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Disney Sale On Branded Merchandise @ Asda Direct

Asda Direct has a reduced much of its Disney bedding and other merchandising in a Disney sale on its website. This includes fleece blankets, cushions, duvet covers, and curtains. Also rugs and odd items like the digital picture frame pictured above.

One really good bargain in the sale is this Disney Princess 7in Digital Photo Frame. Asda has reduced it from £50 to £33.75. It takes SD memory cards, which slot it into the photo frame. Pictures are displayed in 16:9 aspect ratio. Includes auto power on/off, clock, calendar, AC Power adaptor and comes preloaded with free Disney Wallpapers.

Standard delivery on the site is £4.95, or free if you spend more than £25 and can collect in store. Am I alone in thinking that's a big tight of Asda when other stores do free instore collection regardless of how much you spend?

I've got the Winnie the Pooh curtains up in son's room, and they're just lovely for a baby or small pre-schooler. Got to replace them now though, he thinks they too babyish. Sigh. They grow up so fast. Asda has Disney Winnie The Pooh curtains with a 54" drop reduced in the sale from £19 to £14.75. There's also Cars, Disney Princess, Disney Faeries, and Hannah Montana curtains.

Koo-di Handy Changer £19.99 @ Asda Direct

Koo-di Handy Changer £19.99 @ Asda Direct

When you've got a baby, you've got to carry a lot of stuff about with you. I pretty much found I was wedded to my baby change bag! Especially as I kept it stocked all the time, so I could use it indoors as well. It made a handy little 'container' so I knew were all the essentials were all the time. A great time saver. So, when you're in the market for a change bag, get one that YOU like, and that you'll enjoy taking about with you. Like this stylish Koo-di Handy Changer, on sale at Asda Direct for £19.99. It was £34.98.

The website describes this bag as compact, but it doesn't give a size. However it does claim that the Koo-di Handy Changer will fit all the essentials a little one will need: nappies, bibs and a change of clothes. It also has 2 removable pouches - great for cotton wool and creams. And an elasticated strap to hold a bottle or a jar of baby food in place as well as a large, wipe clean changing mat. The bag itself is also wipe clean.

3rd And Bird "Do The Muffin" £14.99 @ Asda Direct

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 24 July, 2010 at 8:00 am

3rd And Bird "Do The Muffin" £14.99 @ Asda DirectOhhhh I LOVE Muffin from 3rd and Bird!

If you've not come across 3rd and Bird you've been missing out! It first aired abotu 18 months ago or so on CBeebies, telling tales of birds who live in trees on the intersection of streets 3rd and Bird (geddit?)

The youngest member of the 3rd and Bird gang is Muffin and, oh my goodness, she's very VERY cute. In fact, the whole 3rd and Bird programme is massively endearing and even if my youngest (then two and a half) didn't fancy tuning in...me and the Teenagers did and watched it for ourselves.

Muffin has a little dance and song  that she likes to do and even though I haven't watched 3rd and Bird for a good while now (I'm still looking for the deal that will give me extra hours in the day *sigh*) I could still sing 'Do the Muffin' for you if you asked me nicely enough.

With this Muffin from Asda Direct, all the magic is in her left foot. Press it and she'll hop, waddle, flap her wings and shake her tail whilst she sings the muffin song. She really is just TOO cute, even more so as Asda have reduced her from £29.99 down to £14.99.

Standard delivery is £4.95 - what is it with these steep delivery charges?! One day, maybe, the supermarkets, Argos et al will follow the lead of Amazon and all the other guys who offer free shipping within the UK. We can live in hope!

Folding Camp Bed £20 @ Asda Direct

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 June, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Folding Camp Bed £20 @ Asda DirectThis is a rather nicely priced deal, I thought, and a very handy one at that!

This is a more elegant solution to occassional sleepovers or unexpected overnight guests, if you don't fancy spending a couple of hours blowing or pumping up an inflatable bed.

When you don't need it, it can be folded away and easily stored in a cupboard under the stairs or under a bed just ready and waiting to be opened out and called in to service to service when someone comes to stay.

They're also handy for taking camping if you don't want to lie on the ground and if you like that sort of thing; personally, I can't think of anything worse but then I don't like Marmite either and some people really love it!

Folding Camp Bed £20 @ Asda DirectNow, even though Asda direct have reduced this bed down from £40 to £20 they will charge you £4.95 for standard delivery even if you choose to collect it in store.

Delivery for collection instore is free for orders over £25 - so it might be worth seeing if there's anything else you need that will tip your order in to the free delivery bracket.

White Porcelain 12 Piece Dinner Set £5.00 @ Asda

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 April, 2010 at 6:00 pm

White Porcelain 12 Piece Dinner Set £5.00 @ AsdaIf your household is anything like mine then complete dinner sets don't stay complete for very long!

One day a side plate slips out of your hands and six becomes five. Then one of the kids gets a bit over-enthusiastic loading the dishwasher, five becomes four and before too long you only have two side plates, four dinner plates and one pasta bowl!

This is the reason why I don't have a Denby dinner service and instead sing the praises and herald the glory of elegant and easily-replaceable crockery such as this Dakar dinner set.

Four dinner plates, four side plates and four bowls for a fiver; let's work it out, that's....about 41 and a bit pence per piece, I mean you really can't go wrong.

It's dishwasher safe so there's no need to worry about slaving over a hot sink and you can bung all the pieces in the microwave too - fabulous! The only thing you can't do with them is put them in the freezer but who does that....anyone?

Unless you decide to arrange for store collection then the standard delivery charge of £5.95 is going to apply, but with an Asda on almost every corner picking one (or two) up should be a doddle.

VTech Explore And Play Table £19.99 @ Asda Direct

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 15 February, 2010 at 11:00 am

VTech Explore And Play Table £19.99 @ Asda Direct"All aboard the Pinky Ponk!"

Activity tables are great things regardless of which TV show or character they 'belong' to.  Little kiddies of a certain age have the attention spans of gnats and playing with toys like this gives them the freedom to be able to jump around from one activity to another to their heart's cotent.

There's a lot for little ones to explore and do with this In the Night Garden Explore and Play Table; it features some of the main characters such as a spinning Upsy Daisy, Makka Pakka (he's my favourite) Igglepiggle, Ninky Nonk sliding beads that run over the top across the width of the table and three Tombliboo balls which when put in the right places trigger phrases, music and sounds.

VTech Explore And Play Table £19.99 @ Asda DirectIt ticks all the boxes of the things small children love to do - pushing buttons, spining things, flipping pages (there's a little book that introduces the characters and objects on its pages) and it ticks an important box for parents too - easy storage, the legs of the table come off to make this a doddle.

Suitable from 9 months onwards this table is a a gift from Asda Direct at £19.99 (was £39.99) can be delivered or collected in-store and requires just 2AA batteries which ARE included.

"Now isn't that a pip!"

VTech First Steps Baby Walker Pink £18 @ Asda Direct

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 14 February, 2010 at 9:00 pm

VTech First Steps Baby Walker Pink £18 @ Asda Direct The VTech First Steps range is pretty good and comes with a load of extras for the price, especially when that price is marked down from £24 to £18. The saving isn’t earth shattering but it’s a good one for anyone looking for something to help baby along.

The Vtech First Steps Baby Walker is designed to help support your baby as they learn to walk. It’s been balanced and designed to amble along comfortably in front of them while they figure out that whole “put one foot in front of the other” thing.

The activity board in the front has shapes and light-up musical keys that introduce your little genius to letters, words, numbers, animals, colours, sing along songs and melodies. Phew. Quite a whack of stuff up front then, it’s a wonder they find the time to walk! VTech First Steps Baby Walker Pink £18 @ Asda Direct

The toy also includes a phone that has beads inserted for noisy role play, a moving butterfly (I’m not overwhelming impressed with the butterflies to be honest, nor was my kid) some discs that spin and rollers for manipulative skills.

Remote Control Thomas £12.72 @ ASDA Direct

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 February, 2010 at 7:00 pm

Remote Control Thomas £12.72 @ ASDA DirectI wonder if I'll ever get bored of telling you about Thomas the Tank Engine deals...?  I don't think it's very likely, do you?

All too often remote controlled things are aimed at bigger kids which is great for them but RUBBISH for youngsters - and I'm talking 18 months old youngsters here - they just don't have the fine motor skills necessary to be able to do anything else other than driving whatever it is into the walls or your ankles.

The time will come when your little Thomas engine driver will want to get off the tracks and drive wherever the whim takes him and he'll be able to do just that with this.

Big and chunky and suitable for small Thomas fans from 18 months, there are no fiddly over-sensitive joysticks to master here - just 2 buttons: one to go forwards and one to go back.

Remote Control Thomas £12.72 @ ASDA DirectThe funnel glows, which is just the sort of little feature that my youngest LOVES, and of course there are the ubiquitous Thomas whistles, engine noises and music.

Thomas needs 5 AA batteries, delivery is free if you spend over £25 or standard delivery applies to selected stores.

Tub Chair £40 RRP £80 @ Asda Direct

by Heidi Scrimgeour in Deals on 27 January, 2010 at 4:00 pm

For the avoidance of doubt this is a 'tub chair' and not a hot tub in a chair as one of Tub Chair £40 RRP £80 @ Asda Directmy esteemed Play Pennies colleagues initially thought. Although if I ever find one of those I'll be sure to post all about it here. Anyway this faux leather tub chair has a foam padded seat cushion and fibre filled arms and sides, and it's just £40 right now, reduced from £80.

I don't know about you but I dream of a chair all of my own. I think it was Virginia Woolf that said a room of her own was all she needed and that sounds divine but I'll settle for a chair. One that doesn't get covered in biscuit crumbs, cat hair or sticky little fingerprints. One that I can sit in whenever I want, without first having to remove a mountain of Buzz Lightyears with missing limbs, or Transformers stuck in a midway mutant transformation between vehicle and, um, whatever it is Transformers are meTub Chair £40 RRP £80 @ Asda Directant to transform into.

Anyway, I digress. Point is, I love the look of the stylish little number from Asda and I'm only gutted that it doesn't seem to come in brown, to match the rest of my furniture. I suppose I could splash out on the black but then I really would need a room of my own to put it in... Oooh that's sounding more and more appealing...
(Note, this is the chair of my dreams. The one from Asda is above!)
