25% Off All LEGO City Toys @ Asda

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 24 May, 2013 at 11:00 am

25% Off All LEGO City Toys @ AsdaALERT! ALERT! Asda have taken 25% off all LEGO City toys - so if you're a LEGO City fan you need to get yourself over there ASAP!

I've written a LOT of LEGO City deals since writing for PlayPennies, and in my head I've built an AWESOME LEGO City.

I've got a harbour with boats, I've got houses, all of the emergency services are covered and the police man keep an eye on the robbers who, occasionally, roam around; I've got forests complete with forest rangers and a wild bear!

There are still a few bits and pieces I don't have though: a LEGO City Garbage Truck (rather necessary for a bustling LEGO City!), a LEGO City Fire Plane - I've got the fire truck and fire station, the fire plane would be a rather awesome addition.

Lucky for my imaginary LEGO City they are both included in this Asda 25% off LEGO City offer; hurrah!

I've just spotted a LEGO City Gold Mine - how awesome would that be to own!  Your very own gold mine!  It would attract tourists to your LEGO City, along with investment too.  Just marvellous.

You can arrange to collect your LEGO City bargains from your local Asda store, or you can part with a couple of extra pounds and have them delivered to your door instead.

Whack A Mole Mania £7.19 @ Asda

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 24 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

Whack A Mole Mania £7.19 @ AsdaAsda are selling this Whack A Mole Mania game for £7.19 rather than its £14.97 full price.

Whack A Mike Mania is a new spin on the traditional Whack A Mole game - if it's anything like the original mole smacking game, tons of fun is absolutely guaranteed!

Here's what you need to do: grab a mallet and bash the lever at the base of the play set. With every wallop, moles fly out of the molehill and onto the ground, which you then have to catch with your mallet that has special mole-catching powers.

If you're the first player to fill your mallet with moles, causing your 'mallet' mole marker to reach all the way to the top, you WIN!   There are three different levels of play, so you can adapt it to suit the whole family; awesome!

My youngest son Edward would have loved this a couple of years ago; we used to spend hours playing Whack A Mole at the local soft play place when he was smaller.  Aside from all the giggling it produces, it's a fab game for developing hand eye coordination, along with honing your reflex speed too.

Little Tikes Playhouse - Natural £85 @ ASDA Direct

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 21 May, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Little Tikes Playhouse - Natural £85 @ ASDA Direct

ASDA has a Little Tikes Playhouse in natural colours on sale for £85. That doesn't seem like a saving, except when you realise it's actually half their usual price and Amazon are selling it for £179!

Actually, the nice things about these houses is that they can be used both indoors and outdoors, I guess.

The playhouses are suitable for children over 18 months, though I can't imagine why - my 14 month old loves the one at the soft play centre.

The Playhouse in Natural reflects classic wood cabin design for playhouse which presents children with different outdoor fun activities and plays. The playhouse features detailed styling on outside walls and shingled roof top.

The playhouse is equipped with drop leaf table, phone shutters and a Dutch door for added fun. The high brick chimney on the rooftop makes it look like a wood cabin making it perfect for role play.

Reviewers say it's solid and sturdy, easy to put together and a great present for kids.

Asda Little Angels Comfort Dry Nappies Review

by Luschka van Onselen in Reviews on 21 May, 2013 at 1:00 pm

Asda Little Angels Comfort Dry Nappies ReviewI really struggle to write reviews on nappies because they are so subjective. It's like writing a review on a pair of trousers. Just because they fit me doesn't mean they're going to fit you. I love trousers from M&S, but my sister thinks they hang funny on her, and they fit well around her hips and gape around her middle. We have different body types, so different brands work differently for us.

It's the same with cloth nappies and with disposable nappies.

When my oldest was in disposable nappies as a baby a friend recommended a specific brand, and they happened to be on sale, so we bought bulk - and I mean BULK. We had hundreds of nappies. And I had to change my daughter's outfit with every single nappy change, because they leaked everywhere.  We had to shop around a bit till we found something that really worked for us, and we found that in reusable nappies.

So, while I can tell you about our experience with Asda's Little Angels nappies, my advice would be to buy one pack and try them for yourself before stocking up in bulk, just because we're overall happy with them.

Lego City Passenger Train £59.98 @ ASDA

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 19 May, 2013 at 3:00 pm

Lego City Passenger Train £59.98 @ ASDA

ASDA has reduced the price on the Lego City Passenger Train from £79.97 to £59.98 which is a neat and tidy saving of £19.99. That’s almost the price of half another Lego set in savings! Of course you do need to add on the extra delivery charges which are £2.95 for standard delivery.

The new high-speed passenger train is ready to pick up and drop off passengers at the Lego City Station. Handle up to eight trains at a time through the tight curves of the new flexible tracks using the new eight-channel, seven-speed infrared remote control. This is pretty darn cool.

The set includes three minifigures, one train driver, two passengers, two engines with opening control rooms, a passenger car with opening roof and space for six passengers, a train station platform, a full circle of 16 curved tracks and 16 flexible tracks, one traffic light and a power functions box. This is a fantastic price for a brilliant train set.

Jake And The Neverland Pirates - Bucky The Pirate Ship £30 @ Asda

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 14 May, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Jake And The Neverland Pirates - Bucky The Pirate Ship £30 @ AsdaIf you have a Jake and the Neverland Pirates fan in your family, or circle of little friends, and they don't have a Bucky the Pirate Ship, then you might want to take a quick click over to Asda - they're selling Bucky the Pirate Ships for £30.  There's debate as to the rrp - some say it's £49.99, but the Asda site lists it as being £39. Either way, it's still a good little deal for a Jake and the Neverland Pirates fan.

I'll be honest, I don't know anything about Jake and the Neverland Pirates, but knowing kids I have a fair idea how popular he must be, and you can do LOTS with Bucky the Pirate Ship - he's not just a model.

You can load the cannon with the water ball projectiles and press the button to shoot them - uptick for that feature, all kids love firing things!  You can place Jake in the hot spot on deck to see the infamous Tick Tock Croc explode out the side of the hidden trap door with his jaws chomping away like crazy - another uptick there methinks, and will prompt daft amounts of giggling.

Then you can attach Scully to the crow's nest so you have a lookout.  There's also a working slide for everyone (well the figures, obviously not everyone!) to slide down.  You can also roll Bucky around and he rocks side to side as if he was really sailing in the ocean.

If that's not enough for you, there are over 25 sound effects, Jake phrases, and the theme song and Bucky also comes with Jake and Skully figures too - see, a bit of a Bucky bargain!

Chicco Red Wave London Stroller £24 @ ASDA

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 10 May, 2013 at 8:00 am

Chicco Red Wave London Stroller £24 @ ASDA

ASDA has dropped the price on the Chicco London Red Wave stroller from £40 to £24, a saving of £16 off the usual retail price. It is a compact and easy to use stroller that’s ideal for busy areas and keeps baby safe.

The Chicco London is an extremely versatile stroller which cleverly combines comfort and protection for babies with the needs of today’s parent and functional solutions. This lightweight stroller is suitable from birth to 15kgs and comes complete with a hood, rain cover and large shopping basket.

You get a four-position reclining backrest that’s adjustable with one hand, an adjustable leg rest and a five-point safety harness. The hands are soft and there is a full length fleece foot muff to keep baby toasty warm in colder weather. The front wheels are lockable, there is  suspension, and it is easy to drop down in size to pack away whenever you’re done. And the price is awesome.

Nintendo Wii U 8GB Console £149 @ ASDA

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 2 May, 2013 at 4:00 pm

Nintendo Wii U 8GB Console £149 @ ASDA

The Nintendo Wii U consoles have been, in my humble opinion, way overpriced for way too long. I am delighted to see that finally the consoles are coming down to a decent price point and ASDA is leading the charge. You can now get the Wii U 8GB white console at £149. Nice.

The Nintendo Wii U console basic pack used to cost around £200, now you are saving a tidy £50 for the console itself. You get £.149 cashback if you buy it with your ASDA Money Credit Card too. Bit of a rubbish cashback, but hey.

The cost of delivery is free if you go with their standard 3-5 days, and you can take advantage of all the new Wii U games that are coming out at the moment. This is a superb deal and I’m definitely going to be taking advantage of it. I mean, I have wanted to play ZombieU since I heard about it! Although that’s not for the kids…

Bottlegreen Elderflower Review

by Lynley Oram in Reviews on 1 May, 2013 at 1:00 pm

Bottlegreen Elderflower ReviewWe sat on the patio, bathed in warm sunshine, and sipped deliciously cold sparkling bottlegreen Elderflower. It tickled the tongue, and made the the last lingering remnant of the bone achingly cold winter disappear.

That, was just five minutes ago. A friend popped around, and we spent a very civilised half hour chatting in that golden yellow stuff the rest of the world knows as sunshine. Bottlegreen sent me some samples of their new Elderflower range to try, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Safety First Swivel Bath Seat For £9.00 @ The Asda Baby Event

The Asda Baby Event is still on and I’ve found another cool deal. The Safety First Swivel Bath Seat is on sale for £9.00. It was £12.00 so you’re saving £3. It all helps and I’m in for anything that makes bath time easier.

The seat features an ergonomic shape to support your baby's back and sea horse toys to keep your baby entertained whilst being bathed. The unique and patented 360 degree swivel action allows the carer to gently turn the baby in the seat to access and wash those difficult to reach areas, making bath time much easier. Four independent suction pads on the base ensure stability and security when installed in the bath. This swivel chair should not be used before your child can sit unaided (approximately 6 months) or after your child is able to stand (approximately 12 months).

Acorn Wooden Play Pots And Pans £3 @ Asda Instoor

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 18 April, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Acorn Wooden Play Pots And Pans £3 @ Asda InstoorYou know how we normally tell you about online deals, right? Well, this one is so good that I am sending my husband out tonight to our nearest Asda - which isn't so close, actually! - just to have a look and see if he can find a set of the Acorn Wooden Play Pots and Pans. Apparently they are reduced from £19.97 to £3!

We know for sure it's available in Wigan, and suspect it's a country wide offer, but it's definitely not available on the website anymore.

Reviewers rate it highly, giving it 4.8 out of 5 stars overall.

The set comes with  13 pieces including a frying pan, saucepan with lid, cutlery, plates and salt & pepper shaker, so basically everything you need to equip your little chefs kitchen.

It's made from high quality materials to ensure durability and safety, but due to smallish parts is recommended for children aged 3 years and over.

If you find it in your local, head over to this thread on HUKD and let everyone else know where it is available, but be kind to everyone and don't buy more than you need!

The Easter Family Fun Guide

by Tamsin Oxford in Features on 21 March, 2013 at 1:00 pm

The Easter Family Fun Guide

Easter is a great adventure and I’m not entirely sure I will ever grow out of it. I can remember stuffing my face with eggs, running about on a sugar high and being completely mean and not giving any chocolate to my brother. Easter has always been a family affair and we make a huge deal out of it every year. Last year I went and left a trail of cotton wool around the street and when we went for a walk, I told my daughter the Easter bunny was shedding because it was so warm…

So, as Easter rapidly approaches and the shops are bursting with eggy surprises, what are you going to do on the big day? Well, ASDA has some cute ideas that I’ve totally stolen from them and popped into this feature. They suggest a roast for Easter Sunday, and I am inclined to agree, especially if this icy weather continues. It may well be that everyone will need a toasty roast to warm up after hunting for eggs in the garden.

Easter On A Budget

by Lynley Oram in Features on 18 March, 2013 at 1:00 pm

Easter On A BudgetIt is that time of the year again when the kids get to gorge themselves silly on chocolate. Easter Sunday is on March 31st this year. So only a couple of weeks to go.

I love Easter, it is one of my favourite holidays (along with Halloween). Mainly because it is so simple. Throw a bunch of chocolate at the kids and they're happy!

It is also in the middle of the Easter school holidays, so you can spend a bit of time doing craft type things with the kids too. If you want!

What I also like about Easter is that it's an easy holiday event to do really cheaply. Here's some of the great ideas and budget deals I've found on the internet.
