Monster High Scaryoke Microphone £5.70 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 18 May, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Monster High Scaryoke Microphone £5.70 @ Amazon

The Monster High Scaryoke microphone has been reduced from £19.99 to £5.70 at Amazon. That’s a pretty huge saving of £14.29 and you get free delivery included too.

You can sing, or scream, along to your favourite songs using the Monster High Scaryoke microphone. It features an original Monster High recording along with cool and spooky sound effects which make it into quite an awesome toy.

You also get lights for the scariest performance and it has an MP3 player line-in jack that connects to most MP3 players should you wish to sing along with other tunes. The three batteries needed, AAA, are included in the price and the microphone is best for kids over the age of three.

I am not sure why anyone would pay nearly £20 for this toy, though. It hardly seems worth it and looks like the kind of thing that would get used once or twice and then disappear to a dusty place and never get used again.

National Geographic Mobile £7.50 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 18 May, 2012 at 4:00 pm

National Geographic Mobile £7.50 @ Amazon

The National Geographic space mobile is down from £29.99 to £7.50 on Amazon at the moment. It comes with their free super saver delivery and you are saving £22.49 off this fun toy.

The National Geographic space mobile brings the history of space exploration to life in your bedroom. The mobile is wonderfully detailed and offers a lovely visual introduction to space flight, which can only be cool, right?

The remote control allows you to light up Earth and start the spaceships orbiting and the National Geographic space mobile also includes models of famous craft such as the space shuttle, international space station and the Apollo Command.

The mobile has eight vehicles, 360 degree rotation, auto shut off, light up planet and needs you to give it four AA and two AAA batteries to make it work, and these are not included in the price. I would not have paid nearly £30 for this, but for under a tenner, it’s a great deal.

Splash Blast Inflatable Lagoon Slide and Paddling Pool £99.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 May, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Splash Blast Inflatable Lagoon Slide and Paddling Pool £99.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Splash Blast Inflatable Lagoon Slide and Paddling Pool for just £99, instead of its full £299.99.

I'll be honest with you, I umm'd and ahhh'd as to whether or not to write this deal...

  1. It's not cheap - but if you have a water fanatic with a birthday in the middle of summer it could make a fabulous birthday pressie and be the center piece for a paddling pool party
  2. If you live in a drought area (still) with a hosepipe bans in full force (still) then it's going to take you a very long time to fill its 522 litre capacity with buckets and
  3. Is it just a shocking waste of water?
I've decided to let you decide - if you feel it's still too expensive then you can choose not to buy it; if you can't bear the thought of 100ish backwards and forwards trips to the outdoor tap and back, you can choose not to buy it and if you think it IS a shocking waste of water in these H2O challenged times then no one's going to force you to have one.
So, the Splash Blast Inflatable Lagoon Slide and Paddling Pool measures H411.5, W215.9, D208.3cm and comes with a blower pump to inflate it for you in about 10 minutes (imagine having to use a foot pump!) and has a combined maximum weight for the slide of 68kg - that's quite a lot, I could slide down it and have more than 13kg to spare!
You can collect in-store or arrange to have your Splash Blast Inflatable Lagoon Slide and Paddling Pool delivered to your home for an additional £5.95.

Spring Blossom Charmed By Accurist Ladies Watch £27.50 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 May, 2012 at 10:00 am

Spring Blossom Charmed By Accurist Ladies Watch £27.50 @ AmazonI was going to write about the Charmed by Accurist ladies watches as a 5pm review because I have one and absolutely adore it - however, a couple of deals have popped up that are quite simply too good to run the risk of missing out on if Amazon start putting the price up.

The usual (and genuine) retail price for the Spring Blossom and Cherry Blossom Charmed by Accurist ladies watches are £110, Amazon are currently selling them for £27.50!

If you're a fan of Pandora bracelets then you may just fall in love with this Spring Blossom Charmed by Accurist ladies watch - think Pandora, or Camillia and others, combined with a very unobtrusive watch face.

I love elegant bracelet watches and I also love Pandora bracelets, but I didn't want to wear something on each wrist so when I stumbled across the Charmed by Accurist watches (on a British Airways flight of all places) I knew it was the perfect compromise.

The Spring Blossom Charmed by Accurist watch comes with four round glass bead charms - two very pretty pale pink and two slightly darker - and four silver coloured metal heart-shaped beads with inset crystals.  The watch face is mother of pearl and has a crystal set at 12 o'clock.

The ends of the bracelet unscrew so you can add more beads and charms if you want to (it's compatible with all the main charm and bead brands) and has a lobster claw fastening.

There are a couple of things you should know about all the Charmed by Accurist watches

  1. They're not waterproof and
  2. They are REALLY tricky to do up on your own - however, with a bit of practice and finding the best way for you this does get easier.

If you're looking for a watch that's different and pretty, or a present for a special lady in your life, then really do go and take a look at the Charmed by Accurist watches - there are lots of different styles and most have discounts on them at the moment too, although not as low as the two Blossom watches.

Happy being charmed!

Octonauts 4 Jigsaw Puzzles In A Box £3.73 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 18 May, 2012 at 9:00 am

Octonauts 4 Jigsaw Puzzles In A Box £3.73 @ AmazonAmazon are selling this 4-in-1 Octonauts jigsaw puzzle for £3.73, rather than its full £5.99 price.

You won't have to have been a PlayPennies reader for long to have realised I'm a big fan of jigsaw puzzles - I write about them pretty often and, I know, wax lyrical about them every time.  They deserve such praise though - in a children's toy world full of battery-eating, light-flashing, bell-whistling toys the humble jigsaw puzzle still reigns supreme as far as I'm concerned.

Where else are you going to find a toy so cheap, that doesn't insult the senses with their constant noise, or the wallet with constant battery replacement and offers all the development of pattern recognition, problem solving, sorting and fine motor skills, along with the incredible sense of satisfaction when that last piece fits into place?

Just in case you don't know anything about the Octonauts who star in the pictures of this 4-in-1 puzzle, here's a quick lesson for you...

The Octonauts is a TV series on cBeebies and features an eight member gang of deep sea explorers.

Captain Barnacles is a polar bear and the leader of the Octonauts crew, Kwazzi Kitten has a mysterious pirate past, Peso Penguin is the Octonauts medic and then there’s Daschi Dog, Shellington Sea Otter, Tweak Bunny – the engineer – Professor Inkling Octopus and Tunip the Vegimal.

The four puzzles have 12, 16, 20 and 24 piece puzzles and all measure 19 x 14cm.

Splash Blast Inflatable Lagoon Slide And Paddling Pool £99.99 @ Argos

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 17 May, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Splash Blast Inflatable Lagoon Slide And Paddling Pool £99.99 @ Argos

Argos have the perfect summer item on sale: a Splash Blast inflatable Lagoon Slide and Paddling Pool. They’re selling it for £99.99 instead of £299.99, which seems like a whopping bargain to me!

Assuming your garden is bigger than mine, of course! I fear this fun summer time equipment would take up the whole space.  The Inflatable Lagoon Slide and Paddling Pool has an individual user weight limit of 54kg on the slide and a combined user weight limit of 68kg.

There are two reviews on the product and the first says that while this is an expensive item, their children between 3 and 12 really enjoy it.  They would “recommend it to others if you can afford the initial outlay as you will reap your rewards in seeing the enjoyment on the children’s faces”.

Both reviews say that the product is easy to set up, which helps.

You will need a pump and an electric supply to inflate it and a hose to keep the slide slippery.

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 May, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Vtech Hello Kitty Play Mat Cube £24.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Vtech Hello Kitty play mat cube for £24.99, its usual price is a rather expensive £59.99.

This Vtech Hello Kitty play mat cube has so many features it's going to bust my word limit if I tell you about them all!

If you're looking for a play mat that's going to grow with your baby through their early developmental stages, then you've just found it.  From birth the Vtech Hello Kitty play mat cube can be used as a normal play mat - folded out flat with lots of things for baby to look at and under, along with dangling toys to reach for and grab.  When they get older, it can be folded up into a soft activity cube for them to play with and explore.

You can arrange to collect your Vtech Hello Kitty play mat cube for free in-store (providing your nearest Argos stores have stock), otherwise you'll need to pay an additional £5.95 for next day home delivery - c'mon Argos give us a cheaper standard delivery option (Tesco finally did!).

Foogo Thermos Sippy Cups (Blue Or Pink) £1.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 May, 2012 at 10:00 am

Foogo Thermos Sippy Cups (Blue Or Pink) £1.99 @ Home BargainsHome Bargains are selling either of these pink or blue Foogo Thermos Sippy Cups for just £1.99, rather than their £13.99.

It's a sad state of summer affairs when I think a deal on a thermos FLASK might me more appropriate than thermos sippy cups for keeping drinks cool *sigh*

Perhaps these Foogo Thermos Sippy Cups have been reduced so much because of yesterday's prediction from the weather men that the next four weeks, at least, are going to feel more like November than the end of May/first two weeks of June!

Still, I'm optimistic that summer WILL arrive and that parents of little ones will be wanting to keep drinks cool when out and about - the Foogo Thermos Sippy Cup will do just that, keeping its contents cool for up to six hours.

Not only will drinks stay cooler for longer but laboratory tests undertaken at Cornell University reveal that the Foogo Thermos Sippy Cups inhibit the growth of bacteria too; lovely, cool drinks and peace of mind.

If you have a Home Bargains near you you can collect your Foogo Thermos Sippy Cup(s) for free in-store, otherwise you'll need to pay a little extra (no more than £2.95) for home delivery.

Happy sipping cold drinks!

Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword Play Set £9.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 17 May, 2012 at 9:00 am

Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword Play Set £9.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword play set for half price, £9.99 instead of £19.99.

It's amused me, greatly, that someone felt the need to make it clear that the sword included in the Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword play set is indeed a FOAM sword - you can imagine the board meeting discussion can't you...

"I really think we need to make it clear the sword is foam.  You know, just in case someone misunderstands, expects to receive a real sword and then complains in the comments!"  The same concerns clearly didn't extend to the Knight's Castle element - so just to clarify, you're not getting a REAL castle either *grin*

What you'll get is a play tent castle that features a fold down door and peep through windows, along with a foam sword for slaying (presumably) pretend dragons.  It's suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and wannabe knights aged three years or older.

You can arrange to collect your Chad Valley Knight's Castle and Foam Sword play set in-store for free (if your nearest Argos shops have stock) or you can pay £5.95 for next day home delivery.

Winnie The Pooh And Tigger Spoon And Egg Cup £14.99 @ Argos

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 16 May, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Winnie The Pooh And Tigger Spoon And Egg Cup £14.99 @ Argos

You know those things that are so over the top unnecessary, but so cute you just have to have them? Well, this is one of those things: Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Egg Cup and Spoon. Argos are selling the set for £14.99, which is a 25% saving on the original £19.99.

This does look like a really cute set – although it doesn’t say what it’s made of. I did think it runs the risk of being plastic and tacky, when it came down to it, but there’s one review and according to that, it’s as gorgeous as it looks.

Tigger stands ready with the spoon while Pooh sits on a tree trunk and hangs on tightly to the silver plated egg cup.

It also comes in a gift box, so it would make a lovely Christening or birthday present.

The Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Spoon and Egg Cup is not available for home delivery, but there were still one or two available in all the postcodes I tried.

Family Of 4, 2 Days Legoland, 1 Night Stay Hilton £131

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 16 May, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Family Of 4, 2 Days Legoland, 1 Night Stay Hilton £131

Right, so, if you fancy doing something a little bit fun and different over the next few weeks, then this deal should really make you happy. If you book for a family of four to go to Legoland and you stay one night at the Hilton in Basingstoke, you pay £131 in total which is a whopping saving.

To find the deal what you need to do is go with the large blue welcome box that has 1 Day + 1 Day Free on it, choose your date and how many family members are going, and then select Search Hotels. You will then be given a range of options at a range of prices.

The hotel prices vary from place to place and the Hilton Basingstoke does have a few days where it doesn’t have any spaces, but there is enough variety to net you a really good deal regardless. The one day free deal with Legoland certainly helps and you can book quite far in advance.

Sizzlin’ Cool Meadow Cottage £49.99 @ Toys R Us

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 16 May, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Sizzlin’ Cool Meadow Cottage £49.99 @ Toys R Us

Toys R Us have reduced the price on this truly awesome outdoor toy by half. Originally on sale for £99.99, this Sizzlin’ Cool Meadow Cottage is down to £49.99. A great saving on a very pretty little outdoor fun house.

The recommended age for the Sizzlin’ Cool Meadow Cottage (is it just me who thinks the name is a contradiction in terms?) is two years and up and you will have to spend another 1p to get free delivery which I think is extremely annoying.

This brightly coloured playhouse has a working front door that’s a half split and windows on either side. There is nothing inside the house so you’d have to furnish it yourself, and it does need self assembly when it is delivered flat placked.

The play house is dominant yellow in colour with green and red trim and a red roof, and it looks fairly robust if extremely plasticky. A good save off the original price though.

Vilac Pocket Kite £4.79 @ Amazon

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 16 May, 2012 at 3:00 pm

Vilac Pocket Kite £4.79 @ Amazon

The price of the Vilac Pocket Kite is not a huge discount off the original, but it is enough to make it a tasty saving and a low price deal. Originally it was on sale for £5.99 but you are saving £1.20 off this price and getting free delivery too.

The Vilac Pocket Kite is small enough to fit, clearly from the name, in your pocket and it can be taken out and instantly flown in the air in seconds. It offers plenty of spontaneous kiting fun so you will never again hit the beach/park/open space and go, “Darn, we should have brought the kite…”

The Vilac Pocket Kite is vibrantly coloured and looks fabulous, there are plenty of bows and bobs on the streamer that flies out behind it and it looks a bit like a flying tent really. It is pretty detailed and the concept is great, not bad for under £5 at all.

Paint Your Own Treasure Chest £6.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 16 May, 2012 at 11:00 am

Paint Your Own Treasure Chest £6.99 @ AmazonArrrr this looks like a good deal if you have a young pirate fan in your family - this Paint Your Own Treasure Chest kit is currently on sale over at Amazon for £6.99 instead of £14.99.

There's something rather magical about treasure chests isn't there!  That whole 'X marks the spot' on a treasure map, following the clues and digging up a treasure chest full of spoils is right out of The Goonies (one of the best kid's films ever made by the way) and who hasn't dreamt of stumbling across untold riches; if you say you haven't, I won't believe you.

Your little pirate can paint their own treasure chest and store all their special things in; they can draw their own treasure map and play treasure hunt games with you and their friends.

The Paint Your Own Treasure Chest comes with all the following bits and pieces and isn't suitable for little ones under three years of age:

  • One wooden treasure chest (11 cms in length)
  • One strip of paint pots
  • A paint brush
  • Some gem stones
  • A blank treasure map and
  • Two pirate figurines

I suppose you could also use this Paint Your Own Treasure Chest kit to try and instill early habits of putting things away - ARRRRRR me hearties, I know it's optimistic but you never know!

Happy treasure chest painting!

Bob The Builder Trike And Tool Box With Tools £28.48 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 16 May, 2012 at 10:00 am

Bob The Builder Trike And Tool Box With Tools £28.48 @ AmazonI have a rather sneaky feeling that Amazon are going to mess around with the price of this Bob the Builder trike and tool box with tools - don't ask my why, call it my 6th Amazon sense if you will, but at the moment it's £28.48 instead of £34.99.

My youngest son was a huge fan of Bob the Builder when he was little, he also loved JCBs and had a ride-on JCB digger for his birthday one year.  If this Bob the Builder trike with its tool box and tools had been an option, I think he would have been very torn between the two as that tool box makes adds that extra little something 'ordinary'.

A bit of self assembly is required - some reviewers have said this can take a while, although I don't see why as there aren't that many bits to it.  The handle bars are adjustable between 50 and 53cm and the seat height is at 30cm.

The took box sits between the back wheels and contains six plastic tools and is all suitable for little Bob the Builder fans aged two years and over.

Complete Oxford Reading Tree Read At Home Book Collection £25 @ The Book PeopleThe complete Oxford Reading Tree 'Read At Home' book collection is back in stock with The Book People and is up for grabs this time for £25, rather than the full list price of £243.91.

If you've missed the previous offers for this Oxford Reading Tree 'Read At Home' book collection then I really urge you not to wait too long this time, it always goes out of stock fairly quickly and whilst it will come back into stock at some point, there's no telling when or what the price will be (it has been cheaper than £25 before now).

It's ever so easy to forget what a huge task learning to read actually is; it's just something we take for granted once we can do it without having to think about it and the Oxford University Press are one of the leading book publishers for books that help speed this process along for your child.

The collection has 31 books with six stories for each of the five levels of reading.  It comes with an easy-to-use handbook that will help YOU to help YOU to learn how make reading fun your child and make sure you both have fun learning together.

Progressing step-by-step through levels one to five your child will learn through repetition of words and sentence patterns and be well on their way to enjoying reading for the rest of their lives.  If your little one is already at school then the characters in the books may well be familiar to them because this reading collection has been written so you can help support the reading work your child is doing in the classroom.

Your Read At Home book collection order should qualify for free home delivery, as it's £25, but if for some reason it doesn't, add this free delivery code - 2012CHAT - to your basket.
