My First Sticker Book £2.99 @ ChoicesUK

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 4 February, 2012 at 7:00 pm

My First Sticker Book £2.99 @ ChoicesUK

ChoicesUK are selling the Usborne ‘My First  Sticker Book’ for £2.99 instead of £9.99  - a fantastic £7 saving. I had a look at the Usborne website, and £9.99 is the general going RRP even though Amazon has them on offer for £6.19 at the moment. Since delivery from ChoicesUK is free, this is definitely the best deal for the moment.

I really like Usborne books. They’re expensive, but they’re generally fantastic quality and worth the money, so having that quality at this price is fantastic, I think!

This ‘My First Sticker Book’ actually contains four learning sticker books including ABC, 123, Colours and Shapes. Children can fix the pictures stickers onto the correct pages, learning as they go.

There are over 500 stickers, so should keep little ones busy for a little while at least. Not a bad plan if you’re looking for a bit of self-directed play (that you can scrape off the windows and walls later) or some travel entertainment – it’s certainly never to early to start planning your in flight entertainment if you’re jet setting this Spring or Summer!

Lego City Let's Build! Activity Book with Lego Figurine £2.92 @ Amazon

by Lynley Oram in Deals on 4 February, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Lego City Let's Build! Activity Book with Lego Figurine £2.92 @ AmazonGot a Lego fan in the house? Chances are pretty high that, if your offspring is aged 12 or under, you most certainly do. This Lego City: Let's Build! Activity Book with Lego Figurine has been reduced by Amazon, from £4.99 to £2.92. Delivery is free with Amazon Prime. Some of these Activity books have been found as low as £3 in-store in Asda, but otherwise this is about the cheapest price I could find online.

Let's get building! Little Lego builders everywhere will love this fantastic activity book. First, construct the Lego City builder toy, then read the stories and try the puzzles which are all about building. What more could every Lego City Construction fan want?

There are three reviews on the site, all giving it five stars. Here's what one reviewer had to say. "My Grandson loves Lego, he has so many kits I would never presume to buy another for him. When I saw this book I thought at last, I can get him something. All the shops I have been in, I have never seen a book such as this . He loves it. It is an excellent addition to his vast Lego collection."

10 Horrible Histories Books £9.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 February, 2012 at 2:00 pm

10 Horrible Histories Books £9.99 @ The Book PeopleThe Book People are selling 10 Horrible Histories books for £9.99, they're full list price is £59.90.

I've written about these Horrible Histories books before; I keep seeing trailers on TV for a Dan Snow series on BBC Knowledge about the major cities in the world and how filthy they were 'way back when' which made me come and look for Horrible Histories again.

The 10 Horrible Histories books were on sale for £9.99 the first time I wrote about them too (maybe they're always £9.99 from The Book People!) and if you've not come across them before, you're in for a treat!

Essentially, Horrible Histories are historical accounts with the gross, gory, slimy, smelly and disgusting bits left IN - just the sort of thing that kids love and will have them absolutely engrossed, never again will history be boring.

The titles which make up this set of 10 Horrible Histories set are:

  • Slimy Stuarts
  • Awesome Egyptians
  • Vile Victorians
  • Rotten Romans
  • Terrible Tudors
  • Vicious Vikings
  • Groovy Greeks
  • Woeful Second World War
  • Measly Middle Ages
  • Frightful First World War

If you're looking for ideas and something different to put into party bags, rather than the usual plastic tat, then you could buy a set of these Horrible Histories books, split them up and put a book in each bag.

Single item delivery will cost you an additional £1.95, unless you find something else that takes your fancy and brings your order total to £25 or more.

Happy being grossed out by history!

Pintoy Doll's Buggy £29.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 February, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Pintoy Doll's Buggy £29.99 @ AmazonAmazon are selling this Pintoy doll's buggy for £29.99, rather than its full £37.99 retail price - it's also an Amazon Deal of the Week so this price is guaranteed until 11.59pm tomorrow night; marvellous!

If I lapse into calling the Pintoy doll's buggy a Pintoy doll's 'pram', it's because it looks like a pram to me - a buggy is a pushchair or stroller in my language.

Anyway, whether you call it a buggy or a pram, it looks SO much nicer than the cheap plastic tat versions you can get for pushing dolls around in.

I'm not, and have never been, a fan of playing with dolls and I tend to shy away buying anything 'dolly' for any of the little girls in my life BUT, you know, I'd actually consider this Pintoy dolls buggy!

It's elegant and has a touch of class about it; it's made from wood and rubber that come from replenishable sources and also comes with a pillow and blanket for keeping 'dolly' warm and cosy.

Your Pintoy doll's buggy doesn't require any self assembly, so you can put your Allen keys away, and is suitable for little girls aged three years and older.

Happy dolly pushing!

Smash Love Skulls Case And Bottle Lunch Set £5 @ John Lewis

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 4 February, 2012 at 11:00 am

Smash Love Skulls Case And Bottle Lunch Set £5 @ John LewisIn the ‘reduced to clear’ isle of the John Lewis website today, you’ll find the Smash Love Skulls Case And Bottle Lunch Set that originally sold for £12 reduced to £8 and now to £5.  If you want it delivered you’ll have to add another £3 again, otherwise Click and Collect for free.

This is a kind of funky alternative to princesses and fairies if you have a girl in the house that prefers the Cure to Justin Bieber. The Smash Love Skulls Case and Bottle Lunch Set is reduced to clear, so I don’t suppose it’ll hang around forever,  but at the moment there’s ‘more than 10 in stock’.

The description is rather sparse, but the set contains a ‘generous sized children’s insulated lunch case with  a bold skull pattern and a handy 500ml water bottle included.’

The dimensions of H26 x W28 xD9cm I assume apply to the lunch box only, making it quite a nice size for a day’s packed lunch.

'Free' Ladybird Books @ Daily And Sunday Mirror

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 February, 2012 at 9:00 am

'Free' Ladybird Books @ Daily And Sunday MirrorThe Daily and Sunday Mirror newspaper are giving away 'free' Ladybird books from today until 26 February - there are up to 100 to choose from and you can bag yourself a maximum of 25 if you manage to collect the tokens every day.

Now I say 'free', rather than 'FREEEEE', because it's all going to depend on your point of view and whether or not you, or someone you know, already gets the Daily Mirror (shudder!) every day.

You need two tokens for each Ladybird book that you want and tokens will be printed in the Daily and Sunday Mirror newspapers - the Daily Mirror costs 40 pence on weekdays, 70 pence on a Saturday and the Sunday Mirror costs £1 (really?!  One of our great British pounds for that publication?! Wow...).

On top of the newspaper cost you need to pay for the postage of your Ladybird books - so they're not truly free, but you don't need to pay the full retail price for them.

One you've collected your tokens, just come back and click the link above to go to the 'Ladybird Library' page which has a link to an order form - just follow the instructions from there and wait for up to 12 weeks(!!) from 7 March for your books to arrive; I hope you didn't want them in a hurry.

One last thing - if you go and LIKE the Daily Mirror Facebook page then you can download a free audio copy of  The Gingerbread Man.

Salter Kids In The Kitchen Measuring Set £6.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 February, 2012 at 8:00 am

Salter Kids In The Kitchen Measuring Set £6.99 @ Home BargainsHome Bargains are currently selling this Salter Kids in the Kitchen measuring set for £6.99 - they say the full retail price is £26.99.

If you bought a Salter Kids in the Kitchen baking set a while back - we reviewed it back in 2010 and featured a deal for it in November last year - then this Salter Kids in the Kitchen measuring set will make a great kitchen companion for it.

I'm not sure about paying £26.99 for it, but £6.99 is definitely worth paying, at least in my opinon; your kitchen scales, timer and measuring spoons will be freed up if your young chef has their own Salter Kids in the Kitchen measuring set.

It comes with a set of mechanical, rather than digital, scales that can weigh ingredients to a maximum weight of one kilo in 25 gram increments.  There's also a kitchen timer and a 'measuring spoon man' - you can keep the scales but I want that timer and measuring spoon man - he's just awesome!

You can collect your Kids in the Kitchen measuring set for free, in-store, if you have a local Home Bargains otherwise standard home delivery will cost you an additional £2.95.

Snug Fleeces £3.99 @ Argos

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Snug Fleeces £3.99 @ Argos

Argos has some his (junior) and her ( also junior) snug fleeces with popular Disney branding on offer for a very reasonable £3.99, reduced from £9.99.

I don’t know about you, but I just don’t seem to be able to warm up at the moment. A hot bath works for a while but by the time I’m settled in for the evening, my very bones are cold again.

As these fleeces are for children, they’re not going to help me, but if your little one has the same problem – or constantly kicks off their blankets – these wearable fleeces might be a good solution to your problem.

Apart from the fact that they are 100% polyester, there’s not much information about them, unfortunately, but  there’s one review on each, and they’re both very positive. Apparently the kids love them, so that’s not bad – and at this price they’re fantastic value too.

Argos’ delivery is really expensive for small items at £5.95, so you’d do better to check your local store for stock, and reserve it for collection.

Racing Desktop Minis £4.99 @ Argos eBay Outlet

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Racing Desktop Minis £4.99 @ Argos eBay Outlet

This is a pretty cute little set of racing minis that you can plonk on your desk for super racing fun. Down to only £4.99 for a brand new box of lovely racing cars, this is a fab deal that would fit nicely into any present cupboard for emergencies.

The racing desktop mini set comes with two cars, both are minis (obviously) and one is red while the other is blue. These tiny little charmers race around a track that’s made from 16 interlocking track pieces, also included in the set.

You also get two bridge railings and four bridge supports so you can create a track that offers uphill and downhill racing. There are 12 roadside fences and two starting markets and, of course, the two controllers for the little mini racers themselves. You will need to buy four D batteries to run the track though.

Tinga TInga Tales Hippo Fleece Blanket £2.99 @ Play.com

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Tinga TInga Tales Hippo Fleece Blanket £2.99 @ Play.com

This is a pretty good buy, especially with the freezing temperatures we’re experiencing at the moment. I want to go to the shops wrapped in a duvet right now! This Tinga Tinga Tales Hippo fleece blanket is down from £9.99 to only £2.99 which is a saving of £7.

The Tinga Tinga Tales series is on CBeebies and has become really popular lately. I’m not a huge fan because they mix and match animals from Africa as if it’s a blender, not staying region specific. Not only that, they have animals from Australia in the show. What’s that all about?

Anyway, fans will enjoy this toasty warm fleece blanket with a beaming hippo on the front. It is made from polyester and is 120x150cm in size. It isn’t very big and I would never have paid the original price for this but for £2.99 it would make a nice snuggly for TV watching.

The Usborne Children’s World Atlas £1.99 @ Argos

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 3:00 pm

The Usborne Children’s World Atlas £1.99 @ Argos

I am frankly astonished by this deal. What a lovely bargain. This Usborne Children’s World Atlas is down from £8.99 to only £1.99 which is not only a whopping saving on the original price but also a really awesome book to have.

The Usborne Children’s World Atlas has internet links littered throughout the book. We bought the encyclopaedia version just after Christmas this year and it is really, really good. Each section comes with a bunch of internet links that show you even more videos, information, pictures and stories about the stuff on the page.

My daughter loves hers, she takes it with her when we go out and tells us all about the things inside it. We’re even learning things here! The book has 60 pages of maps along with introductions to the continents, satellite photography, and lots of facts about the various countries.

The Usborne Children’s World Atlas at this price is a complete and utter steal.

Playmobil Hospital £19.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 11:00 am

Playmobil Hospital £19.99 @ Home BargainsHome Bargains are selling this Playmobil Hospital set for £19.99, rather than its full retail price of £44.99.

Playmobil sets always remind me of going to play at my pre-school friend, Rachel's, house - she had lots of Playmobil type 'stuff' and we used to play with it for hours.

This Playmobil Hospital set is perfect for all budding medics - doctors, nurses, surgeons or paramedics - and has everything they'll need to get their patients to A&E.

There's an emergency helicopter for those times when the road ambulance just won't make it in time - when the road ambulance isn't being used you can park it in the ambulance station building.

In addition to that there are five mini figures and a stretcher to carry patients into the Playmobil hospital on - fingers crossed you only get one patient being admitted at a time!

The Playmobil Hospital is suitable for young wannabe life savers aged 18 months or older and can be collected in-store for free, if you have a local Home Bargains, otherwise you'll pay up to £2.95 for home delivery.

Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen £5 @ The Entertainer

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 10:00 am

Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen £5 @ The EntertainerThe Entertainer are selling this Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen for a staggeringly cheap £5, rather than its full retail price of £20.

Even though it's 'poke forks in my eyes' time again - I really do loathe pink plastic play kitchens, wooden ones in non gender specific colours I can just about 'do' - this is THE cheapest I've ever seen this Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen so I feel it would be remiss of me, and against the PlayPennies principles, for me not to tell you about it.

So (deep breath) here we go...

The Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen features a hob, a toaster, a sink for doing the washing up (make the most of your little ones wanting to do that, even if it is just pretend, because when they hit 14 they won't want to do it anymore!) and an oven complete with opening door.

I'm glad about the opening door because an oven with a door that doesn't open is a pretty useless oven, in my opinion.  The Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen also comes with 14 kitchen accessories.

If you have an Entertainer local to you then you can collect your Cosy Cottage My First Kitchen for free, otherwise standard home delivery is going to cost you an addition £3.95 - even with postage this is still a GREAT deal for a little play kitchen.

Mega Bloks Squad Ultimate Set £6.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 February, 2012 at 9:00 am

Mega Bloks Squad Ultimate Set £6.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this Mega Bloks Squad Ultimate Set for just £6.99, rather than the £14.99 full retail price.

With the 365 pieces that make up this Mega Bloks Squad Ultimate Set, you can build a steamroller, front loader JCB type vehicle and a pick-up truck with a trailer.

Once they've been constructed your youngster can unleash any, or all, of the three mini figures and accessories and let their imagination run riot.

Perhaps they'll be building the next great city or clearing up after a disaster, who knows!  Either way, the possibilities are endless and there are plenty of hours of fun to be had with a Mega Bloks Squad Ultimate Set.

Argos do say that styles may vary - one lady got a set of emergency vehicles - so if you have a digger fan then you might want to ask which ones your local store has in stock before you order.

The Mega Bloks Squad Ultimate Set is suitable for kids aged five years or older and is available for both home delivery (£5.95) and free in-store collection.

Learning Resources Magnetic Alphabet And Numbers £4.99 @ Amazon

by Luschka van Onselen in Deals on 2 February, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Learning Resources Magnetic Alphabet And Numbers £4.99 @ Amazon

The Learning Resource Magnetic Alphabet and Numbers kit have been reduced from £8.99 to £4.99 at Amazon. Please not these magnets DO NOT come with the magnetic board, but if you have a magnetic whiteboard or a fridge, they’ll work perfectly on those.

My daughter’s been in the kitchen with me from, well.. birth, really.  I once had a health visitor tell me I had to put a stair gate up on the kitchen door to keep her out while I was cooking, but I wasn’t all that keen on having her roaming the house unattended while I was preparing our dinner, so I’ve just taught her about kitchen safety since before she could walk.

Something I find really helpful in the kitchen with toddlers is having distractions, so we’ve always had magnets of some description or other on the fridge – weather singing animals or letters and numbers, and they’re a perfect way to keep her busy when I have to get something out the oven.

This particular set provides the letters and numbers formed in the same way they’re taught at school – I realise writing this that ours have this “a” rather than the “a” we’re taught at school. There’s also an accurate level of relative proportions between uppercase and lowercase letters, which is useful and includes extras of the most commonly used letters.

All round, it actually seems like a pretty good learning tool!

Lego Alien Conquest Earth Defence £37.48 @ Tesco Direct

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 2 February, 2012 at 6:00 pm

Lego Alien Conquest Earth Defence £37.48 @ Tesco Direct

The Lego Alien Conquest Earth Defence kit is at 50% off at Tesco Direct taking it down from £74.97 to only £37.48. I still can’t get over how expensive Lego is, I mean, that is REALLY pricey the old price but it is far more reasonable now which should make Lego fans happy.

The Lego Alien Conquest kit contains what kids with imagination need to defend the Earth against the alien invasion. Earth Defence HQ is the ultimate station with a bunch of features and extras like the laboratory trailer that can be unhooked for high speed pursuits.

Repel the UFO with the interceptor shuttle and fire the ground defence unit flick missiles. Study the alien commander and alien pet in the analysis bay – they actually say that in the description, how disturbing! – and be sure to keep them behind bars. Crikey, if I was an alien reading this I would never visit Earth.

The Lego Alien Conquest kit has an alien trooper, alien pirate, pilot, two alien defence unit soldiers, a toxic clean up scientist and accessories.

Star Wars Talking Yoda/Chewy/Darth R2D2 Three For Two @ Tesco

by Tamsin Oxford in Deals on 2 February, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Star Wars Talking Yoda/Chewy/Darth R2D2 Three For Two @ Tesco

Tesco has reduced the Star Wars talking plush toys to only £9.97 each and then slapped on the tasty “get three for two” label as well. Not only do you end up with awesome talking Star Wars toys but you get one of them for free.

These are ace. I found this deal last year and remember thinking that it was soooo pants I had already sorted all my Christmas presents out. These are such cool gifts and not just for kids either. I mean, I grew up with Star Wars so these would make me very happy.

Can you imagine waking up to a plush little Yoda talking to you about the Force? Yeah. Or a little Darth yabbering on about your coming to the dark side while you make coffee? Oh yes. This is all too good for words.

Anyway, they each cost £9.97 and you can collect pretty much all of them in one spend under £20 really, well, three of them…

Up To 50% Off ELC Arts And Crafts Bits And Pieces @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 2 February, 2012 at 11:00 am

Up To 50% Off ELC Arts And Crafts Bits And Pieces @ AmazonAmazon are having a bit of a sale on Early Learning Centre arts and crafts bits and pieces - there are 75 individual items included in the sale and plenty of them have, or are close to having, 50% off their full retail price.

The thing with arty bits and pieces is that they often need replacing - paints and felt tipped pens run out, pencils get broken so you are forever sharpening them (which is pointless because the 'lead' inside has been shattered into a million pieces from being dropped on the floor), paper gets used and scissors (at least in my house) have the disappearing skills of Houdini!

Taking advantage of arts and crafts sales, like this, makes sound economic sense - especially when you can have everything delivered for free.

Pens, pencils, paints, paper, chalks and chalk boards are included in the Early Learning Centre arts and crafts sale, along with painting aprons (in both red and blue for boys and girls) and scissors for the right-handed masses and the minority 'lefties'.

Some things are selling out quite quickly, so if you have plenty of things to stock up on then I suggest you go over to Amazon sooner rather than later.
