Pregnancy rights?

Since I told my boss I was pregnant, he has been overlooking me for work and literally giving me worse jobs than the interns. We always got on, but now he's actually p-ing me off so bad I just want to quit. What can I do?

First off, keep a record of everything. A contemporaneous record - one that was written as and when the events happened - carries weight should this come to mediation or in the worst case, a tribunal. A record written after the fact doesn't. Also, when you come to write it all down afterwards, putting everything down at once always makes you feel like surely you must have imagined things - could all that have really happened? By writing it down as it happens, you won't find yourself questioning yourself. Believe me, it makes a huge difference! Make sure you keep everything emotional out of it, and make it a record of the facts. If it comes to a tribunal, anything emotional or that smacks of 'he said, she said', will simply be dismissed and it may undermine the rest of your record.

Second talk to your union rep or if you don't have one, join a union. They will be able to give you good advice on how to handle your boss, and proper legal advice too. Constructive dismissal is where you resign from a job, but because you were put in the position of being forced to resign. It sounds like what your boss is trying to do here. It is looked upon extremely dimly by employment tribunals.

It is more than a case of pissing you off. Your boss's behaviour is illegal. He may not even be aware that he's doing it - if he's a reasonable person it could be subconscious. However, it might not be either. No matter what the cause you need to do something about it now.

I would email each thing as it occured to myself at a different (non work) email address (i.e. gmail) )so that you have a date and time stamp to prove the dates and times.

Good luck!
