Pregnancy Nutrition Campaign Causes Controversy

Has the image above appeared on your Facebook feed a few times today? It's from a Brazilian advertising campaign aimed at improving the diet of pregnant women by highlighting the impact it has on their unborn child.

These images were created by the ad agency Paim for Brazil’s Pediatric Society of Rio Grande (SPRS), with the tagline "Your Child Is What You Eat". There is a series of images and all show breastfeeding mothers with their breasts painted to look like junk food and the campaign's message.

With all the publicity being generated by these images the message around healthy eating in pregnancy is likely to get a big boost. The SPRS images say "Your habits in the first thousand days of gestation can prevent your child from developing serious diseases" and their aim is to educate and inform mothers about nutrition and care.

What do you think of these images?  Are they putting more pressure on pregnant women and playing on mothers' guilt? Or are they  getting their message across in a simple and effective way? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or over on our Facebook page.
