'Natural' cleaning

Does any1 know if 'natural' cleaning stuff - like using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda (whatever that is!) is really cheaper than buying spray bottles? and does it clean as well with bacteria and stuff?

White vinegar will clean as well as any of the cleaners out there. None are 100% except bleach. I use white vinegar with a bit of lemon juice to clean out the fridge as I don't want lots of heavy duty chemicals in there. Bicarbonate of Soda is something that's used a lot in baking. You can find little tubs in the baking aisle at the supermarket. What you really want though is household soda. This comes in big bags and you don't want to cook with it, but it is the same stuff more or less. It makes a good fabric softener and stain remover. I use a scoop with my wash. It also cleans out the limescale in your washing machine just as effectively as the stuff they advertise on the telly. I also use it in my kettle to descale. Vinegar also makes a good glass cleaner, although you do need more elbow grease. The only problem with it is that your house smells like a chip shop. Lemon juice is an excellent cleaner too. It will make the inside of your kettle really sparkly, and put some in the softener drawer of your next wash of whites. It works as a brightener too, and it cleans out the inside of the washing machine as it goes. Eucalyptus oil is a good disinfectant. There's lots more! Oh and the household soda is also excellent for cleaning your drains. Pour some down the outside drains now and again, it will get rid of built up fat. And if your outside drain or inside is blocked, then unless you've been having trouble for a while there's a good chance it is just fatty buildup. The soda will clear it right out without any effort on your part.
