Nappy rash ideas?

Does anyone have any ideas? Sudocrem isn't working. My poor babe must be in so much pain.

Air usually works. Try keeping the nappy bit loose. And depending.on.his age, when u change his nappy if baby is not mobile yet, just put a muslin cloth round his bottom area and let him lay there n play. If he sits you could try that but stick him in the baby bath for a while with some toys to play with or put a wipeable mat on the ground.

Not sure what u could do if he is mobile and moving around. But best thing could be to cover the floors in something and keep him in one room for the day.

An hr or so every few hrs might help clear it up.

Otherwise change him as soon as happy is wet even a bit.

Air.
Seriously, if you can, try and let the baby go without a nappy for a bit to let the air in there.

whenever my son had a tooth come through, he got really nasty viscous nappy rash. I have no idea if the two were linked or how they might be but surely it can't be coincidence. In those instances, sudocrem did not work. Nor did any of the organic stuff, or the cream a friend got for me from the US. It was a case of air doing the trick. However, that was easy for me to do as he was born in April and it was a long hot summer that year, and a warmer than average winter.

If you're breastfeeding, breastmilk on the nappy rash is great, it works really quickly.

If not, I HONESTLY recommend Green People's nappy balm. My daughter was in a specific brand *hiss spit*'s disposable nappies for the first few months and she used to have such bad rash from it her bottom would bleed - I mean like blood in the nappy kind of bleed - and that balm was AMAZING. It contains calendula and would actually heal her overnight. Stupid 1st timer it took me a while to realise it was THAT brand of nappies doing it, so when we moved to cloth it wasn't ever a problem again, but the nappy cream from Green People REALLY made a difference. We even use it for cuts and scrapes now. I feel your pain though - I used to cry out of frustration with this broken, bleeding skin :(

oooh interesting Luschka, when I was researching ways to help son's nappy rash I didn't come across the breast milk one. Where did you hear it? Did you try it yourself?

The Green People didn't work for me unfortunately. I know what you mean, honestly when their skin is raw like that it is heartbreaking. And it would happen so quickly too, from normal sweet little baby's bottom, and the next time you change it is weeping sores that look like you've left him for days in a dirty nappy.

Yip, we tried it. We used breastmilk for EVERYTHING from cradle cap to ear and eye infections to nappy rash and blocked nose/congestion. It contains an ingredient called immunoglobulin A which stimulates healing, causing the skin to regenerate and heal faster. Immunoglobulin A also attacks infection and "removes it".

It also contains something called phagocytic cells. It acts almost like an acid, eating through congestion and clearing the nostrils, nasal passage and sinuses.

It truly is amazing stuff.

Is good tip but only works if you have spare breast milk, which I didn't have. Son never left anything, and I sat every day for ages with the pump trying to increase production as they say the more you express, the more you'll produce. But it seemed that son just drank more! Still at least I never had leakage problems.

Lots of no-nappy time, but the best thing in the world is Metanium.
It stains yellow on clothes, so be careful and you only need a tiny bit but it was the only thing that cleared my daughters "teething" nappy rash.

Morhulin - I was recommended this cream (available from the pharmacy at Boots) - brilliant for nappy rash and any skin complaints (the person who recommended it used to work in a care home and it was used on bed sores)

Bepanthen. Works miracles - on everything!

BEPANTHEN. It really works!!! I used it on my kids and have recommended it to others who also use it. You can see the effects after the first application. The redness disappears and the baby stops screaming!

DON'T use sudocrem with a nappy. Sudocrem forms a protective waterproof film on your babys bottom, which is great, but you put a nappy on and the sudocrem transfers to the nappy and stops it absorbing, which in turn makes nappy-rash worse. Bepanthen or metanium are apparently much better, but nappy-free time will help most.

My mother in law told me to use egg whites on the last nappy change, just the white dabbed on with cotton wool can be kept in the fridge for acouple of days. Other than that I have heard of breast milk working and air is also good as with all abraisions. Luckily for us sudocream works for my grandson as he always gets a worse rash at teething time.

oooh that's interesting franyates! I wondered if perhaps it was a bit in my head, as I didn't know of any other babies that got nappy rash at teething time. It is good to know I am not alone. Mrs N, Sudocrem never made my son's nappy rash worse at all. It was immediately soothing, and cleared it up within the day. However, when he was that bad I would most likely have kept him nappy free anyway. I had a pack of bed mats of the kind you can get for incontinent adults that I'd bought to use as mattress protectors in case my waters broke in the bed. I would use one of those as a play mat for him so that if he had an accident it didn't matter. The only time he ever 'aimed' when he weed was at the midwife or health nurse when they came for their visits! Ha ha. He never weed at me, and we never had any unexpected problems with the nappy off. That said, we didn't have carpets so I wasn't worried. Someone I know had her baby on a playmat for nappy off time, went into the other room and in the one minute she was gone he had pooed and rolled it all around the living room carpet! They had to go out that night and find a tool hire place that was still open to get a carpet shampooer.

Franyates, I was also told eggwhites, but with cornstarch... tried it once but it was all too gooey for me!
