Little Silas Philips was not only three months premature but in what’s been described by doctors in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California as “ultra rare” he was also born inside his amniotic sac. Usually the amniotic sac will break as a mum to be goes into, or during labour and is more commonly known as "waters breaking". In Silas’ case it should have at least been broken when the doctor cut through during the caesarean section but no, the little boy was delivered complete with placenta inside the sac. The placenta delivered oxygen to him until it was opened and in fact he’s doing so well he’ll be allowed home within the next month.
Doctors at the medical centre described the moment of “awe” when they delivered Silas, only 1 in every 80,000 babies are born inside the amniotic sac so it isn’t an everyday event for sure.
