Home Made Christmas Mince. Is it worth it?

It actually doesn't seem like a lot of effort, but wondering if it will taste any better than bought stuff? Has anyone ever tried home made Christmas mince?

I've never had home made Christmas Mince, to my knowledge, but if you really want to try before you make it's probably worth visiting a few local Christmas markets and fairs and so on. There are plenty around where we are every weekend already, so I'm sure they're everywhere else too. There's usually someone selling home-made produce and you might find some there? Let us know - I'm curious now!

I've never made home made mince, but have made christmas cake.
It may be more expense, but the taste is worth it and you know exactly what is in it. :)
The main ingredients I believe in mince is suet, loads of raisins, currants, spices, etc so can be picked up fairly cheap.

Yes I sure have. I haven't made the mince that goes in them though - you can buy this in jars and it is perfectly fine. The Marks & Spencer one is tastiest. I use the recipe on the BBC Good Food site. Gorgeous. Really is nothing like a home made mince pie to be honest. Especially with custard. Maybe I'll have a go at making the mince as well to go in them this year. The main reason I make my own is that I can't seem to digest white flour, so I need to use flours like wholemeal, or gluten free, and it is just easier to make than to buy. I've never made my own Christmas cake because I'm the only person in the house who eats it. So I just order one from a specialist bakery through our local health food shop. I also order the christmas pud from there. It is gorgeous, but I am always rather miffed that everyone else seems to prefer my Christmas pud too.
