Vtech Rock And Roll Radio £8.80 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 14 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

Vtech Rock And Roll Radio £8.80 @ AmazonAmazon are selling this Vtech Rock and Roll Radio for just a little bit less than it's full price - £8.80 instead of £10.99. Not spectacular, but as it's Vtech the full price if very often always worth paying anyway.

This cute little Vtech Rock and Roll Radio is suitable for little ones aged six months and over; I'm sure they can have one when they're younger than that, they just won't be able to get to grips with turning the dials until they're a little older.

They'll learn about musical instruments from fun phrases that will help coax out those those first words. There are colourful graphics and flashing lights to attract their attention, and when they can turn the dials and press the buttons they'll be developing their motor skills and learning about cause and effect concepts - not that they'll know they're doing that!

How's this for a review...

"My son LOVES this!  It has a variety of sounds and little songs, so it doesn't get annoying - not more than you can bear- and that is a big plus for at toy with sounds!  He loves the blinking lights and dance around, bobbing his little head. BUY THIS FOR YOUR CHILD!"

Okay then! I think that makes things pretty clear!

Here are a couple more:

"Our daughter loves this radio, there are many music options and is easy, to push the buttoms for her, we recommend this to everyone, who has a little baby:-)"

"This toy is a must have! The tunes, animal sounds and different musical instruments are great! Surprisingly this toy has many songs so you don't get bored like many baby musical toys. The radio mode is fantastic, you can hear the dog, the bird and the sheep singing, my baby always smiles and giggles when she hears this (since 6 weeks old), in fact this was one of the first toys that got her to giggle! The main tune (the cd button) is also great!"

Knex Big Building Tub £7.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 13 May, 2013 at 10:00 am

Knex Big Building Tub £7.99 @ Home Bargains Home Bargains are selling this Knex Big Building Tub of Knex bits and pieces for £7.99 - it's usual full retail price is £20.10.

I haven't seen, or thought about, Knex for y-e-a-r-s - well not since last year, but it was plenty of years before that. My youngest son is almost seven, he inherited his elder brother's bucket loads of Knex bits and pieces and has been happily creating models with it all ever since.

Knex is a building system that uses rods, blocks and connectors - its inventor, Joel Glickman, came up with the idea when he was at a wedding, whilst wondering what he could do with his straw if he connected it to another one (it must have been a boring wedding!).

Hasbro, LEGO and the other toy giants turned down the idea and told Joel it would never take off. TOMY, however, saw the potential and are still having the last laugh as Knex is still netting them a fortune every year - I LOVE stories like this; take THAT Hasbro and LEGO!

This Knex Big Building Tub contains 50 Knex pieces and is suitable for little constructors aged three years and over.  There are model building ideas for them to follow, or they can just make things up as they go along and put everything away back in the storage tub when they've finished - I found that was always the most tricky bit!

It doesn't look like you can pop into Home Bargains and collect your Knex Big Building Tub, so home delivery is going to cost between 99 pence and £2.99 depending on whether HBs classify it as small or large parcel.

Happy making this with Knex!

Big Book Of Drawing, Doodling And Colouring For Girls/Boys £4.99 @ The Book People

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 13 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

Big Book Of Drawing, Doodling And Colouring For Girls/Boys £4.99 @ The Book PeopleIf you head over to the Book People, you'll be able to pick up a copy of this Big Book of Drawing and Colouring for either boys or girls for just £4.99. The usual list price is £14.99.

If you want value for money then any kind of colouring and drawing book hits the spot as far as I'm concerned - they are an absolute must if you have children, of almost any age (well, perhaps not teenagers, but you know what I'm getting at).

I always adored colouring in pictures in colouring books when I was little - my nan kept a stash of them at her house; my grandma always had piles of blank paper and a huge tub of crayons on standby, and there were always colouring books at home too.

You could generally guarantee that something along the lines of a Big Book of Drawing, Doodling and Colouring would feature somewhere in the birthday and Christmas present haul as well.

For girls, the pages are full of birds, butterflies, fairies, fashion, rainbows and shooting stars, and all sorts of other pretty patterns and popular designs.  For the boys, there are cars, planes, aliens and other 'boy things' to enjoy.

Happy doodling, drawing and colouring!

Clair De Lune Broderie Anglaise Moses Basket £22.45 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 May, 2013 at 11:00 am

Clair De Lune Broderie Anglaise Moses Basket £22.45 @ TescoSo maybe the Little Circus moses basket was a bit bright for you; perhaps you'd prefer something a little more simple and understated? What about this all white Clair de Lune Broderie Anglaise moses bakset then? It's absolutely on a par with the Little Circus moses basket price, £22.45, and you can collect it for free from your local Tesco too.

This Clair de Lune moses basket is themed with a white cover, and bedding set, that features a delicate star pattern.  The basket lining and quilt can all be washed at 30C, but you will need to buy a stand for it.

It's got good reviews from existing owners too, here's just one of them:

"We have had our fair share of moses baskets over the years and I have to say for a really good price this is as good if not better than ones I have had before. Good sturdy makeup and no huge gap around the edges. Highly recommended"

I've had my fair share of moses baksets too.  There was never any question as to whether or not to have a moses basket, that was always a given - they can't be beaten when it comes to portable sleeping: baby in the bedroom next to you - easy; baby sleeping in his, or her, own room - piece of cake; baby sleeping downstairs so you can keep an eye on them as you get on with other things - no problem; weekends away - no need to worry!

If you don't want to schelp to Tesco, then you can always grease their palms with an additional £3 and have them deliver your Clair de Lune moses basket to you instead.

Little Circus Moses Basket £22.99 @ Mothercare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 May, 2013 at 10:00 am

Little Circus Moses Basket £22.99 @ MothercareMothercare are selling this Little Circus moses basket for half price - £22.99, rather than £44.99.

All of my children spent their first few months of life on the outside, sleeping in a moses basket; there's just something about the way they look, to me, that makes them a 'must'.

Aside from how they look, they are very practical

  • They're light and easy to move around the house
  • They're very easy to take away with you when you're staying away from home
  • They're small and baby can feel very cosy inside, there's also the added 'cocooned' feeling when the canopy is raised
  • Find the right deal and you have a very cheap first sleeping solution

Your Little Circus moses basket comes with a non-PVC mattress (lots of moses baskets don't), and a cosy fleece blanket embroidered with soft, friendly little circus animals. You will need a stand for it though, you can get one of those from Mothercare too.

You can arrange to collect your Little Circus moses bakset from your nearest Mothercare store for free; standard delivery will cost you an additional £2.95 - which isn't bad, I don't think, when you consider it's a rather big item!

Kids Camping Chairs £4.88 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 6 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

Kids Camping Chairs £4.88 @ TescoIf you're heading off to an outdoor event soon, or going away camping then you might want to take a look-see at these kids camping chairs, they're currently on sale at Tesco for £4.88 instead of £6.50.

Okay, so this isnt' the cheapest I've ever seen these camping chairs for, but they are that good I'd happily pay up to a tenner for them - so, in my book, they're still a bargain at £4.88.

You know, I always thought these chairs were a bit daft, in either adult and kid size, until I actually tried one and became a bit of a convert. Prior to that I spent my outdoor event and picnic days on blankets, having to mould myself around the pot holes or mole hills underneath our 'spot'.

Then came the chairs and they were a revelation: easy to fold and unfold, light enough to carry and made the entire sitting-down-outside experience a much more pleasurable and civilised one.

Kids will still love sitting on blankets but they'll also want to sit in the chairs too (you know what they're like) so it makes sense to have a couple of these folding camping chairs on-hand for them...otherwise you'll end up back on the blanket atop lumpy ground whilst they lounge in YOUR chair.

You can choose from pink or blue and the frame has a locking mechansim too to guard against small fingers getting trapped.

Fisher Price Rainforest Melodies And Lights Deluxe Baby Gym £37.11 @ Mothercare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 May, 2013 at 1:00 pm

Fisher Price Rainforest Melodies And Lights Deluxe Baby Gym £37.11 @ MothercareIf you get yourself over to Mothercare, and use this code - RNLH - then you'll be able to pick up a Fisher Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights deluxe baby gym for £37.11, rather than £57.99.

Now, baby gyms are much of a muchness when it comes to their basic design: they have a soft flat mat for baby to lay on - brightly coloured and patterned to engage their visual senses during tummy time - and an arch which spans it and comes complete with obligatory toys hanging from it.

If you're in the market for a baby gym that offers a little bit more than the basics then you should take a look at this Fisher Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights deluxe baby gym - it could be just the thing you're looking for.

With its jungle theme, it's easy to put together: the two play arches cross over and fit onto a colourful padded play mat. You fasten the arches with a paddle that lights up and spins fun characters around for your little one to enjoy.

The colours, shapes and textures of the Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym have been designed to promote exploration and activity, with beads to rattle, mirrors to look in and butterflies to spin.

In-store collection is a free option for you, as is standard delivery - how marvellous, I do love both of those options being free.  But if you need it a little quicker then you can pay a few extra pound for faster delivery.

Don't forget to use the RNLH code!

Bedding Bargains @ Mothercare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 May, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Bedding Bargains @ MothercareIf you're in the market for new, or more, bedding for your little one - whether they be in a moses basket, cot, or bed - then head over to Mothercare and take a look at the bedding they have on offer at the moment.

I adore new bedding. I really have to rein myself in when it comes to just not buying every new set that catches my eye - seriously, I already have enough sets to be able to change the sheets and duvet covers etc, every day of the week.

It's not only bedding for my bed that does it for me - sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, blankets - of all sizes, cot bumpers, they all float my bedding boat.  It's a very good job that I don't have anyone super small to buy bedding for, otherwise I'd be in big trouble.

This My First Adventure bed in a bag is my absolute favourite, click HERE to have a look at it - it's £56.99, instead of £89.99.

Standard delivery is free, as is in-store collection - or a few extra pounds if you want it delivered a little quicker.

Happy making beds (or cots, or moses baskets!)

Celebaby: A Bump For Caprice

by Sarah Macdonald in Celebaby on 4 May, 2013 at 10:00 am

Celebaby: A Bump For CapriceDid you know that Caprice, of underwear modelling fame, is preggars?  I didn't.  According to a statement made by her 'people', she's between four and five months gone.

She's 41 now, looking rather awesome for 41 - mind you, you can never be sure how much of that is down to good old Photoshop and knowing how to hide behind good makeup.  OR, she could just look awesome; simple as.

Anyway, she's expecting her first baby with her long-term boyfriend, Ty Comfort (what a great name!).  She'd always had a dream of having five children by the time she was 38, and has, obviously, had to admit defeat with that one, but she says she'd still like at least two.

She also said, "I've worked really hard within the business and the challenge of having children is what I'd like to do next. I am very determined but I think at my age kids are what I should do next."

Well okay then, let's see how you do!

Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Police Car £39.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 4 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Police Car £39.99 @ Amazon HOW cool is this Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Police Car?!! My goodness, it's so cool I almost want one myself.  Not only is it cool, the price is rather awesome too (for the moment at least) - £39.99 rather than £54.99.

If you have more than one child then having an ordinary Little Tikes Cozy Coupe and adding a Police Car to your Cozy Coupe collection will allow for endless hours of playing Cozy Coupe cops and robbers!

I used to play cops and robbers with all the kids that lived in my street when I was little (they were the days when you could play outside ALL day and no one ever worried about where you were and whether or not you were safe - GOOD old days, that's what they're called!), we used to play on our bikes and our bells were the sirens.

It was lots of fun, and I reckon a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe version would be just as much fun.  If you don't know anything about Cozy Coupes at all, WHERE have you been for the last 30+ years?! Let's just say they are one of the most enduring and iconic kiddie ride-in toys ever to have graced the toy market, and every single child loves them.

Trust me, you won't go wrong with a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe of any variety - police car or otherwise.

Bob The Builder Towel £3.75 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 May, 2013 at 11:00 am

Bob The Builder Towel £3.75 @ TescoTesco are selling this Bob the Builder towel for £3.75, instead of the full £9.99.

You may, or may not, remember that I have a thing for towels. As far as I'm concerned, one of the great pleasures in life is having piles and piles of towels in the laundry cupboard, all neatly folded and stacked according to colour and size - if you're the same, and you live with a young Bob the Builder fan, then this Bob the Builder towel may just have to join the ranks of other towels in your airing cupboard.

My kids loved nothing more than getting out of the bath or shower and being wrapped up in a towel adorned with whoever was their current character-of-the moment - which is why there is a character towel PILE in my airing cupboard; one minute it was Hello Kitty, the next it was someone Disney, then Toy Story came along! You know it goes...

You can, if you really have no other option, arrange for Tesco to deliver your Bob the Builder towel to you, but that'll cost you an additional £3 - rather pop along to your nearest Tesco store and pick it up for free instead.

Alphablocks DVD £3.99 @ Sainsbury's

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 May, 2013 at 10:00 am

Alphablocks DVD £3.99 @ Sainsbury'sSainsbury's are selling this Alphablocks DVD for £3.99 - it looks to be around the £7 mark everywhere else at the moment, so one gold star for Sainsbury's!

I've never heard of the Alphablocks before, they look a little similar to the Numberjacks though, and they're great! And having read the reviews, it seems the Alphablocks are great too.

So the Alphablocks are twenty six living letters who discover that when they hold hands and make a word, it magically comes to life - oh now that sounds awesome!  They have adventures, sing songs and make their own entertainment in a world where, literally, anything can happen - still sounding awesome.

Apparently, the Alphablocks are on Cbeebies and is designed for littlies aged between three and seven years old - which explains why I've not heard of them, they're out of my target range now (although I did sit and watch the Numberjacks by myself the other day (I was feeling nostalgic), perhaps I should look out for the Alphablocks next time!).

Here's what people who've bought this Alphablocks DVD have to say about it:

"A must have for all parents who's little learners are starting with phonics. Cbeebies top rated educational show, is bang on the curriculum, and very entertaining!"

"This show is fantastic! Very helpful as well as fun to watch with the kids. I highly recommend this for kids learning the alphabets with humour and fun thrown in with it too. 5*"

"As expected this is very good. My 3 year old son and 19 month old daughter watch this most mornings, and within a week they have picked up so much. My daughter now copies most of the phonics sound perfect and she is only 19 months. Already have pre-ordered volume two and hoping they will be releasing more volumes later on in the year."

Discounts On All Things Star Wars @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 3 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

Discounts On All Things Star Wars @ AmazonTomorrow is Star Wars Day! I did consider holding this post back until tomorrow, but I'd hate for the very thing you wanted most to be out of stock - so here it is today.  Happy Star Wars Day for tomorrow!

To celebrate Star Wars Day, Amazon have whipped a load of money off all things Star Wars, including my favourite - LEGO Star Wars.

Just in case you have NO clue what on earth I'm talking about, let me illuminate you:

Tomorrow is the 4th of May; in Star Wars there's a saying, "May the Force be with you!"  The Force, and I'm quoting Obi Wan Kenobi in Episode IV, A New Hope, almost verbatim, is, "an energy field created by all living things, it surrounds us, it penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together."

Are you still with me? SO, if you change around the 4th of May, to May the 4th, it sounds very similar to 'may the force' - SEE!  (Perhaps I'll save the Revenge of the 5th (that's on Sunday) explanation for another day!).

My husband has still not seen any of the Star Wars movies - we WILL be having a Star Wars fest', soon! - and I had to explain Star Wars Day to him yesterday. I'm not sure he really got it, but at least he'll know why 'Happy Star Wars Day' wishes will be popping up all over his Facebook page tomorrow!

And now YOU know that tomorrow is Star Wars Day, and that you can bag yourself some awesome Star Wars deals, at Amazon, as a result!

Mickey Mouse Soft Toy (24 Inches) £14.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 2 May, 2013 at 12:00 pm

Mickey Mouse Soft Toy (24 Inches) £14.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this rather large Mickey Mouse soft toy for £14.99, his usual price is £39.99.

Of all the Disney characters, Mickey Mouse was never one of my favourites - he always seemed a bit goody-two-shoes to me. Now, Pluto and Donald Duck! Well they got up to all sorts of mischief and were much more fun.

However, I wouldn't have been upset if someone bought me one of these large Mickey Mouse soft toys! He looks very cuddly and has some great reviews:

"He's a top quality plush toy. My 3 year old loves it. Bought in the sale for a bargain price"

"My one-year-old grandson loves Mickey Mouse and this plush toy is excellent for him.  He's lightweight and easily sponged down as he does get grubby - but then he's dragged all over the place, night and day.  MM goes everywhere with him. He's a great toy for any kid that likes MM"

If your local Argos store(s) have this 24 inch Mickey in stock, you can pop along and collect him for free. If they don't, and you don't want to travel further afield, then you can pay Argos an additional £2.95 and have Argos deliver him to you.

Celebaby: It's All Peachy For Peaches

by Sarah Macdonald in Celebaby on 2 May, 2013 at 11:00 am

Celebaby: It's All Peachy For PeachesPeaches Geldof's second son, Phaedra, was born on 24 April . I wonder whether or not he was induced, or just chose to arrive on the day of his late grandmother's birthday.

Peaches' mum, Paula Yates, would have been 54 on that very same day and I can't help but feel a little tinge of sadness that she's not here to share in her daughter's family, and see what a lovely young lady she's grown up to be.

An official statement was released last Wednesday, simply saying:

"Peaches Geldof and Thomas Cohen are delighted to announce the birth of their son on April 24 2013. Both mother and baby are very healthy and well."

There aren't any details regarding his weight yet, but Peaches has been keeping her Twitter followers up to date with daily events since then, tweeting:

"My new little man is so sweet, he loves being swaddled so much and looks so happy like a tiny burrito baby wrapped up in it."

So Phaedra was conceived when Astala, son number one, was just six months old - do you we think there'll be a baby number three following close behind these two? Or will Peaches stop at two...for now?

Julia Donaldson Books 3 For £10 @ Asda Direct

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 2 May, 2013 at 10:00 am

Julia Donaldson Books 3 For £10 @ Asda DirectIf you're in the mood for adding some Julia Donaldson books to your existing collection - or starting one, if you don't have any as yet! - then you need to get yourself over to Asda Direct.  They're currently selling three Julia D books for £10, which is a bit of a Julia Donaldson book bargain!

It is only slightly possible that you don't recognise the name Julia Donaldson, but if you don't, just trust me when I say she writes the most wonderful stories for young kids in the whole wide world.

Lots of them (most of them, in fact!) rhyme and you can never, ever get away with reading one just once at bedtime - you'll either read the same one over and over, or a selection of a few.

It's impossible to recommend a top three as all of them are just as good as each other, so take your pick if you don't have any, or fill in the gaps if you already have some Julia Donaldson titles on your book shelves at home.

Standard delivery, which takes between three and five days, is free; you can also arrange to pop into your local Asda store and collect them there for free too. If you need your Julia Donaldson books quicker than that, then you can pay an additional £4.95 for next/named day delivery.

Cook with Dora The Explorer: Abuela's Birthday Fiesta Book £2.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 2 May, 2013 at 9:00 am

Cook with Dora The Explorer: Abuela's Birthday Fiesta Book £2.99 @ Home BargainsHome Bargains are selling this Cook with Dora The Explorer: Abuela's Birthday Fiesta Book for £2.99 rather than £11.99.

My daughter is in the Army and after their first six weeks, all of the junior soldiers were allowed to take their own duvet covers back to base. It seems that Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants were the most popular duvet covers of choice among the girls - don't ask, it seems that the more childish the better.

I can't see them reading Cook with Dora The Explorer: Abuela's Birthday Fiesta Book though, I think that might be pushing the childish humour 'thing' a little too far.

It's been designed for children aged between three and five, and encourages imaginative play while telling a Dora the Explorer story. Your young Dora fan can participate in the story by turning the cooktop knobs, using the toy spatula and spoon, and pushing the buttons to play music, sounds, and voices as they help Dora, Papi and Diego make a meal for Abuela's birthday.

Unless you really have not other choice, don't pay £2.99 for home delivery - instead, arrange to pop into your local Home Bargains and collect it for free instead.

Thomas And Friends My First Trike £24.99 @ Home Bargains

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 1 May, 2013 at 11:00 am

Thomas And Friends My First Trike £24.99 @ Home BargainsIf you head over to Home Bargains you'll be able to bag yourself a Thomas and Friends My First Trike for £24.99, rather than having to pay its full price of £34.99.

Youngsters riding their trikes, for the first little while at least, can be a heart-stopping and scary experience. I remember when the Teenagers first took to the triking road - we didn't have these My First Trikes way back then and they seemed to lack the ability to pedal and look where they were going at the same time!

They were either stationary and looking up, or pedaling away like loons and careering towards unsuspecting pedestrians, trees, brick walls, in fact anything that happened to be in their less-than-straight oncoming path - it was terrifying.

And let's not even talk too much about how they turn round to look at you when you yell 'STOP!!!' whilst they're still going forward!

So HURRAH for trikes like this Thomas and Friends My First Trike - the kids get to have fun, trike, look at their feet as they pedal and us parents get to control the stop-start and steering element. This little trike is suitable for kids from two years onwards, it has a storage bucket on the back to put things in and the parent handle height is adjustable, marvellous.

You can arrange to pop into your local Home Bargains and collect your Thomas and Friends My First Trike, or you can lob them an extra few quid and they'll very kindly bring it to you instead.

Happy my first triking!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Colourfelt Play Board £5.22 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 1 May, 2013 at 10:00 am

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Colourfelt Play Board £5.22 @ AmazonAmazon are selling this The Very Hungry Caterpillar Colourfelt Play Board for £5.22, instead of its £9.99 full price.

I haven't written about anything Very Hungry Caterpillar for (what feels like) a-g-e-s!

I love him! He's just properly awesome.  AS is anything that vaguely resembles Fuzzy Felt - you have to be of a certain age (mine!) to know furry felt shapes that stick to a board by the name Fuzzy Felt.

Whichever name it comes under now, the principle is still the same: you can create as many different furry felt scenes as your imagination will allow, on a special background board.  Simple as that.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Colourfelt Play Board board measures 37 x 31 and then you have 31 different VHC shapes to stick to it.

I love the simplicity if toys like this; I love that you don't need to spend a fortune on batteries, and I love that it's completely silent - no bells, no whistles, no rings, no dings, no buzzing, no 'fun tunes', no NOTHING.  Just good old fashioned fun that comes from within.

I'm not the only one who thinks it's great:

My granddaughter, who is 2, loves this, it is educational as well as fun. She learns about fruit, colours and counting as well as recognising the different stages of the caterpillar and all the food he has eaten. Reading the story once is never enough for her, she wants it again and again.

I bought this as a gift for a 3 year old girl, and was not disappointed. It is really good value for money. We are very fond of the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and this is the first spin off product we've purchased. Our daughter can re-tell the story using the felt pieces or modify the tale into her own special message of eating and waiting. We even use it to help reinforce counting, colours and Day and Night etc., so I find it very useful educationally. It's bigger than I expected (should have read the product dimensions more carefully!). I wholeheartedly recommend it.

In fact, it doesn't have any less than enthusiastic reviews at all!
