Coverdry Car Seat And 3-in-1 Bed Protector

by Sarah Macdonald in Misc on 23 February, 2011 at 10:00 am

Coverdry Car Seat And 3-in-1 Bed ProtectorI've been through the whole potty training experience three times now (four, if you include my own...I don't remember much about that though) and there were times with my eldest two when it felt like I was doing nothing but wash bedding.

Tracy Hollins is also a mum of three and felt the very same way, the difference between her and me is she actually went on to do something about it and invented the Coverdry 3-in-1 bed protector which protects the sheet AND quilt, making life just a little less stressful.

“As a working mum having to wash the bed covers and quilt most days was a real bind as the bed protectors would only protect the bottom sheet.”

The Coverdry bed protector wraps around your child and secures with four small Velcro straps; it protects the quilt, pillow and bottom sheet from accidents.

It can also be used as a flat sheet for use below or on top of the bottom sheet and it works well as a throw too, protecting quilts from marks or spills.

And just to top it off, the Coverdry bed protector is machine washable at 60ºC and can be tumble or line dried.

There's also a car seat version too so you can kiss goodbye to the battle of removing, washing and trying to fit car seat covers back on after little accidents in the car.

Tracy launched the 3-in-1 Coverdry bed protector at London’s Baby Show in October 2010 and parents are calling it 'a lifesaver' and 'a godsend'.

The car seat protectors are £7.99 and the 3-in-1 bed protector can be pre-ordered now for £29.99.

Happy dryness!

Save 1/3 On Bepanthen Cream And Wipes @ Boots

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 February, 2011 at 9:00 am

Save 1/3 On Bepanthen Cream And Wipes @ BootsBoots have taken 1/3 off the price of 100g of Bepanthencream and Bepanthen Wipes.

Bepanthen is MARVELLOUS stuff; expensive, but marvellous.

A 100g tube of Bepanthen cream usually retails for £7.45, with this 1/3 off deal you can pick it up for £4.97. A pack of 12 Bepanthen Wipes (think cream but in a wipe) usually cost £3.26; at Boots just now they're £2.17.

I have to admit it's a close run race between Bepanthen and Sudocream - both are extremely good at doing what we all know them best for, sorting out nappy rash.

My teenage daughter swears by Sudocream for making spots disappear almost overnight and my tattooist gives strict instructions to all clients that they must apply Bepanthen cream to their new tattoos to help them heal!

However, I can't imagine your little one's going to be having a tattoo anytime soon, so here's the deal on nappy rash and newborn skin...

Bepanthen cream is so gentle it can be used at every nappy change, even on the highly sensitive skin of premature babies, as it contains no fragrance, preservatives, colours or antiseptics.

It also contains pro-vitamin B5. Pro-Vitamin B5 gently aids natural skin recovery, while keeping it soft smooth and moisturised; Bepanthen cream forms a long lasting, breathable transparent layer, protecting even the most delicate skin from the causes of nappy rash.

So there you have it; Bepanthen cream is just awesome all round and so is the current price at Boots; order online and collect instore for free.

The Gruffalo Pop-Up Theatre Book £4.99 @ Redhouse

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 23 February, 2011 at 8:00 am

The Gruffalo Pop-Up Theatre Book £4.99 @ RedhouseRedhouse are selling this rather awesome Gruffalo Pop-Up Theatre Book for a mere £4.99 instead of the £15.99 list price.

It's no secret that we completely and utterly ADORE anything Gruffalo here at PlayPennies, and this Gruffalo Pop-Up Theatre Book is no exception.

Just LOOK at it – it’s fantastic! I could quite happily use thousands of exclamation marks in this post but I'm going to try and limit my use of them for fear of causing a world-wide shortage.

When you're the proud ownder of a Gruffalo Theatre Pop-Up Book you can, first, read the story exactly as it was written. But THEN, when you’re done with that, you can open the book up, turn it into a stage and then act out the story OR make up your own Gruffalo adventures *exclamation mark* (<---- does that count?)

The Gruffalo Theatre Pop-Up Book comes with lots of extra Gruffalo goodies to help you put on your performances: a full cast of characters, a play script and other bits and pieces. Forget getting this for the kids, I want to have one so I can put on my own Gruffalo plays.

I’m off to buy myself an early Mother's Day Present (no one else will, so I might as well) and look forward to wallowing in my own little piece of theatrical Gruffalo heaven!

Do Monkeys Pick Their Noses? £2.99 @ WHSmith

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 22 February, 2011 at 11:00 am

Do Monkeys Pick Their Noses? £2.99 @ WHSmithI utterly adore books like the two that you get with 'Do Monkeys Pick Their Noses?' and I'm rather liking the price reduction at WHSmith too - these two books should be £9.99, but now they're £2.99.

Why Eating Bogeys Is Good For You and Why Do Farts Smell Of Rotten Eggs are the two book titles that make up 'Do Monkeys Pick Their Noses?' (and I've no idea why it has a different title, it just does).

Just the titles alone will have kids of almost any age giggling away and itching to dive into the pages to find out the answers.

Other VERY important questions are addressed and they include:

Ever wondered why we burp? What a wotsit is? Whether lemmings really jump off cliffs? Why vomit always contains carrots? And why DO farts smell like rotten eggs? Ever wondered why we have tonsils? Is there any cream in cream crackers? Why is the sea blue? And if kangaroos keep their babies in their pouches, what happens to all the poo?

Do Monkeys Pick Their Noses was written by Mitch Symons who used to work for the BBC and was the principle question writer for the early editions of Trivial Pursuit (a little bit of trivia there for you).

And apparently eating bogeys IS good for you...but only if they're your own!

Celebaby: Bits And Pieces

by Sarah Macdonald in Celebaby on 22 February, 2011 at 10:00 am

It's all fairly quiet on the Celebaby front - so here are a couple of snippets of celeb' kids and parent news...

Gwen Stefani

Celebaby: Bits And PiecesFour-year-old Kingston made his runway debut with his mum Gwen Stefani after her LAMB collection showed at New York Fashion Week.

I have to say he looks pretty cool and not at all phased by being in the limelight.

Jackson kids doing ok

Celebaby: Bits And PiecesI'm not sure why this is news but it's making headlines anyway - apparently Michael Jackson's children 'still' talk about him. Erm, hello?! He was their father, he's not been dead long and why wouldn't they talk about him?

Jackie Jackson recently spoke to People, saying, "They are around their father 24 hours a day," Jackson's brother said. "They have pictures in the bedroom. They talk about him all the time. They ask me stories about him. They want to know more about him."

He went on to say that all three children are doing well and told how Prince and Paris are becoming interested in following in their father's footsteps by joining the entertainment business. Prince would like to direct, while Paris would like to be an actress.

Jackie told his neice and nephew, "'You better get busy because when we were your age we were selling out concerts!" That made me laugh, c'mon kids step it up a bit!

In The Night Garden DVD Box Set £9.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 22 February, 2011 at 9:00 am

In The Night Garden DVD Box Set £9.99 @ AmazonAll aboard the Pinky Ponk! Amazon are selling this In the Night Garden: Hello Everybody! DVD box set for £9.99 insteadof £22.99

If you've never seen In the Night Garden then I'd like you to go and watch a couple of episodes, then come back and explain it to me. After three or so years of watching it, I still don't get it.

I was expecting dusky evening scenes and quiet bedtime stories, read by someone like Bernard Cribbins but NO! What I got instead was BRIGHT colours, broad daylight and crazy frenzied capers from Iggle Piggle, Upsey Daisy, Makka Pakka and the Tombliboos.

By all accounts In the Night Garden is the product of extensive research into how young children learn, watch and play and In the Night Garden ticks all those boxes; programming genius then...I still don't get it, I think it's totally bonkers.

These In The Night Garden DVDs have over nine hours of In the Night Garden fun to enjoy and if you manage to bag a set at the lower price of £9.99, before Amazon start messing around with the price, then I'm sure you'll enjoy that too.

Free delivery, and all that Makka Pakka malarky, with the SuperSaver deal too!

Aquadoodle Mini Mats £3.57 @ Tesco

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 February, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Aquadoodle Mini Mats £3.57 @ TescoTesco are selling various Aquadoodle Mini Mats for £3.57 instead instead of £4.47 - now I know it's only a small saving, but quite frankly these little Aquadoodle Mini Mats are worth their full price and weight in gold.

I loved painting as a kid but I’ll confess the words, “Can we do painting Mummy?!” from my kids, when they were really little, used to make my heart sink.

If your kids are older you’ll understand exactly where I’m coming from – we all know painting is fun but before a certain age it’s a real palava: cover EVERYTHING with newspaper – even the walls, unless you’re fearless in the face of poster paints! – get everything set up, painting shirts on, braced and ready AND…all for a few splats of paint on the paper before your little Rembrandt has had enough and wants to do something else!

The big ones are fabulous but they ARE big, not very portable for when you need a distraction whilst out and about. This is where these Aquadoodle Mini Mats come in to their own – they are small enough to just pack away in little bag ready to be whipped out at a moments notice.

To unleash your little artist’s potential all you need is some water in the pen and….that’s it! The water reveals the colour and fades as it dries so you get to do it all over again!

Tesco currently have Aquadoodle Mini Mats on offer, featuring:

Each Aquadoodle Mini Mats set comes with four little aquamats and one pen; they're suitable for little kiddies aged 18 months or over.

Standard delivery will apply so to keep costs down at bargain levels I’d arrange to collect in-store for free.

Kids Peter Storm 3 in 1 Jackets £19.49 @ Millets

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 February, 2011 at 10:00 am

Kids Peter Storm 3 in 1 Jackets £19.49 @ MilletsMillets have reduced the price of these Kids Peter Storm 3 in 1 Jackets from £38.99 to £19.49.

I LOVE Peter Storm jackets - I have a lighweight windproof Peter Storm 'Stormtech' jacket and it's one of those rare 'Ronseal items' - it does exactly what it says on the tin; I wouldn't be without it.

The kids Peter Storm 3 in 1 Jackets are available in BLUE in sizes: 3 - 4, 5 - 6, 9 - 10, 11 - 12 and 13 years. Or PINK in sizes: 3 - 4, 9 - 10 and 11 - 12 years.

They really are fabulous jackets; durable and versatile, they combine the waterproofing and breathability of Peter Storm's fabric with the insulation offered by a zip-out fleece inner jacket, which can be removed in milder conditions and worn on its own when weatherproofing isn't an issue.

The shell is lined and has fully taped seams, a double storm flap over the full length zip, part elasticated cuffs with curved tab adjusters and a rollaway hood with an adjuster and reflective trim along the seams.

There are two zipped hand pockets and 1 chest pocket; awesome.

Now, standard delivery is £4.95 and I do have a 15% discount code - meYc6Z - that you can apply to your basket, which brings the total price, including delivery, to £21.51.

However, according to broadyo796 over at HUKD the £19.49 price is also the price of these kids Peter Storm 3 in 1 Jackets too, so if you want one of these jackets and you're passing your local Millets you might as well pop in.

Graco Century Stroller Half Price @ Babies R Us

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 21 February, 2011 at 8:00 am

Graco Century Stroller Half Price @ Babies R Us

Toys R Us are selling this Graco Century Stroller for half price – £29.99 instead of £59.99.

Tavel system, sling or stroller?! There are so many ways to ferry your little one around it can be tricky to know which way to turn.

Each has their own merit but for me, it was the stroller that became king and got used and abused the most. They’re lightweight, small and can be easier to manouevre around town than their big Range Rover equivalent travel system cousins.

This Graco Century Stroller doesn’t do anything fancy and is suitable for littles ones six months or older as the seat has one position only.

It has a simple umbrella fold, dual suspension with front wheels that swivel and can be locked - on rough terrain you’ll be glad of this feature – it also has a hood, a shopping basket, padded foam handles and that’s it.

The Graco Century Stroller doesn't do anything fancy, it doesn’t have a load of bells and whistles, you can't plug your MP3 into it (I came across a stroller that had that feature once) and it won't cook the dinner for you, it’s just a good old-fashioned simple stroller – ideal for slinging in the boot of the car and leaving there ready for when you need it.

There are various delivery options – standard delivery takes up to four working days and will cost you £4.95, or you can arrange to click and collect.

Free Competitions: Win a 97 Night World Cruise

by Sarah Macdonald in Comps on 20 February, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Free Competitions: Win a 97 Night World CruiseI love board games (apart from Monopoly, I loathe that game - stupid hotels on Mayfair and Park Lane, pah!) and if you're the winner of this competition you'll have bagged yourself a box of Hasbro Games worth £250.

Just register as a VIP for free on the Hasbro site before 28 February 2011.

If you have a pretty little princess at home, she might love one of these Rapunzel Towers - Toys R Us are giving one away.

Just fill in your details before 11 March 2011 to enter.

I've never been a fan of cruises - they just seem like a floating version of Butlins to me and that's my idea of HELL! However, the thought of 97 days away on a posh round the world cruise is rather tempting.

If you fancy it too then let's enter! I'll even give you the answer - it's Jules Verne - and you must make sure you submit your entry before midnight 18 March 2011.

Or maybe you'd like a fancy-schmancy new laptop; if so, all you need to do is answer the question correctly and enter your details.

The answer is 'parallel' and you have to enter before 25 February 2011.

GOOD LUCK!

PlayPennies Loves...Me, The Man & The Baby

by Sarah Macdonald in Misc on 20 February, 2011 at 1:00 pm

PlayPennies Loves...Me, The Man & The BabyThis week PlayPennies loves...Me, The Man & The Baby.

Meet Emma; her blog 'Me, The Man & The Baby' is a rather being able to take a gentle meander through someone else's musings and ramblings on various parenting subjects or events that hit the news.

I read the same article as she did in the Daily Mail (yes, I KNOW! But in my defence I only ever go near it for work purposes, otherwise it would be just plain wrong) written by Jan Moir about whether Twitter condolences from celeb' to celeb' are distasteful and nothing more than showboating and self-promotion on the part of the one offering their sympathies.

I really enjoyed all the reasons to rejoice in the fact that we're grown-ups now (well, allegedly for some of us anyway) and whilst slaving after kids of any age year in year out, whether they're toddler or teenager, can be a bit of a drag there's something delicious about not being told what you can and can't do by YOUR parents anymore.

Emma's also going to be running the London Marathon in April - Emma...are you mad?!

You can follow her training progress every week on a Monday and if you're feeling generous of mood today then you can sponsor her too; she's raising money for Tommy's - a charity which aims to ensure more babies are born healthy.

Good luck Emma, everyone at PlayPennies will be routing for you (whilst we eat cake!)

Are you the owner of the blog above? Click HERE for our resource page for “PlayPennies loves” badges and banners.

Ben 10 Alien Force Luggage Set £8.99 @ Argos

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 20 February, 2011 at 11:00 am

Ben 10 Alien Force Luggage Set £8.99 @ ArgosArgos are selling this 3-Piece Ben 10 Alien Force Luggage Set for less than half-price; £8.99 instead of £19.99.

Of all the Ben 10 things my youngest has, he doesn't have this Ben 10 Alien Force 3-piece luggage set.

He could do with it to be honest as he quite often goes away with his dad and he's yet to perfect the male art of travelling light, every toy and book he possess MUST go with them.

This Ben 10 Alien Force 3-piece luggage set comprises a trolley bag, draw string bag and wallet. The trolley bag has two base wheels and retractable handle.

The drawstring bag has two velcro straps and a shoulder strap; the wallet has velcro fastening too and four pockets on the inside.

All of these items are made from woven nylon, which is ideal as it makes them tough and durable and wipe clean.

The reviews are great too...

"I bought this in the sale and it is great quality and fantastic value."
"Great for making young ones feel included in the whole holiday experience, from having their own wallet and carry on case for the airport."
Happy travelling light (if you're lucky!)

Lego Kickers Kids Shoes

by Sarah Macdonald in Misc on 20 February, 2011 at 10:00 am

Lego Kickers Kids ShoesIf you're a regular PlayPennies reader then you'll know that we are rather big fans of Lego.

Some of us (Tamsin) also have a weakness for shoes, so you can imagine the delight if us all when these Lego Kickers kids shoes came to our attention.

You've got the iconicism of Lego combined with the cool of Kickers - seriously, what more could you ask for?

A cheaper price tag perhaps, but look on the bright side most of these Lego Kickers shoes are cheaper than most Lego sets. That said, lots of them are on sale for close to half-price.

If they had grown-up ones I'd be sorely tempted myself, I think they're just a bit KEWL.

Buy 2 Get 3rd Free Bakugan Offer @ Toys R Us

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 20 February, 2011 at 9:00 am

Buy 2 Get 3rd Free Bakugan Offer @ Toys R UsToys R Us have a buy 2, get 3rd free promotion running on Bakugan toys - it started on February 11 and runs until 13 March which is great news if you have a Bakugan fan in your household!

I was introduced to, and taught the ways of, Bakugan a couple of months ago by my four-year-old who was very patient with me.

I’m still not really any the wiser as to what they're all about, although I am no rather proficient at closing them up when he can't; he’s very certain on one thing though – Bakugans are COOL!

From what I can gather they are a bit like Top Trumps, in so far as each Bakugan has various skill, ability and fighting levels and you ‘battle’ to see who can become the Bakugan Master.

That’s where the similarity ends though as you don’t just have Bakugan cards, you have Bakugan dragonoid figures too. They’re like little balls which pop open to reveal the ‘alien’ thing on the inside.

You don't have to do anything special to trigger this Bakugan toys offer, just add three Bakugan items to your basket and Toys R Us will automatically deduct the value of the cheapest item.

Hurrah!

BT 150 Digital Baby Monitor £43.99 @ Amazon

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 19 February, 2011 at 1:00 pm

BT 150 Digital Baby Monitor £43.99 @ AmazonBuy this BT 150 Digital Baby Monitor from Amazon and you'll save £26 - they've reduced its price from £69.99 down to £43.99.

When my youngest was a baby I had a baby monitor that had a motion sensor mat under his mattress that would detect changes in breathing, not everyone wants that but DO want to be able to listen in to their baby when they're in a different room.

This BT 150 Digital Baby Monitor looks like a great option - it's sleek and stylish and doesn't come in hidoues gawdy colours (hurrah!) and it has a ton of features too.

You can plug your MP3 player into it and play music of your choice to your baby to help them drift off to sleep, it has an integrated thermometer, DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) digital technology, polyphonic lullabies (I think I'd stick to music on my iPod).

It also has rechargeable batteries and a torch on the parent handset and, according to the official blurb, its high-definition sound is so good it sounds like your baby is in the room with you.

And if you want even MORE, the BT 150 Digital Baby Monitor has a vibrate function so you can put the monitor on silent when you need to, perhaps when you're making an important phonecall, and still be alerted when your baby needs you.

Happy baby monitoring.

Baby Sleeping Bags - Buy One Get One Half Price @ Mothercare

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 19 February, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Baby Sleeping Bags - Buy One Get One Half Price @ MothercareIn my opinion, baby sleeping bags are to be lauded as the invention of angels and Mothercare currently have a Buy One Get One Half Price offer on selected baby sleeping bags.

Start planning ahead! Have you noticed how it’s getting lighter earlier and darker later?

Have you seen the daffodills and the snowdrops all beginning to put in an appearance? Spring and summer really aren’t far away, HURRAH!

Have you also noticed how shops sell summer clothes in the winter and winter things in the summer?!

I remember the same applying to baby sleeping bags when I was in the market for them – most frustrating, so if you, or someone you know, is expecting a summer baby then now’s the time to get your summer sleeping bags.

Only one of my children kept still when he slept, the other two were absolute fidgets. Baby sleeping bags didn’t exist 15 years ago so the older fidget often woke up chilly, but with the youngest fidget I discovered the delights of these genius things!

No more tucking in blankets thousands of times a night, changing nappies in the middle of the night a breeze – just un-popper the baby sleeping bag at the business end leaving the top half of baby still snuggly and warm.

Baby sleeping bags are definitely on my MUST HAVE baby item list.

Build It Stunt Plane £6.50 @ ELC

by Sarah Macdonald in Deals on 19 February, 2011 at 11:00 am

Build It Stunt Plane £6.50 @ ELC The Early Learning Centre have cut the price of this Build It Stunt Plane in half - it's £6.50 now instead of £13.

Calling all budding aviation engineers! Get started on your career early with this Build It Stunt Plane.

I adore chunky toys like this Build It Stunt Plane – they are great for little chubby hands just starting to get to grips with everything.

There are 17 pieces to this plane and it comes with it’s own chunky drill, drill bits and screwdriver for your little one to assemble. The drill needs two AA batteries to run and these aren't included so make sure you pick a couple up.

It will help develop their motor, logic and pattern recognition skills and, not only that, they can play at being The Dambusters when they’ve finished; awesome.

I can’t imagine these fantastic Build It Stunt Plane flying machines are going to stay in stock for long, so if you want one I'd grab one whilst they're still in stock.

Happy aviation engineering.
